Star Wars: The Old Republic

i'm not a fan of MMOs and not even the brilliance of KOTOR could make me play one. why couldn't it just be KOTOR 3 :(

If it comes to a console it'll probably be 360.

Most likely only going to be 360/PC. And this is coming from a proud PS3 owner.

Sounds good, but like others have said, I`m not an MMO player.

I really wished it was KOTOR 3.:csad:

Eh maybe, but with the growing community of the PSN and the fact that they would be able to make even more money by going to all the systems, i wouldn't put it past them. Plus EA own Bioware and when EA sees an opportunity to milk the market and make a buck, they usually do it.

I do believe this makes it to consoles tho.

Electronic Arts exec Frank Gibeau has confirmed that console versions of Star Wars: The Old Republic and Warhammer Online are "under consideration".

Speaking to Eurogamer at the press event announcing SWTOR for PC, he said, "We're definitely looking at the opportunity to bring the MMO experience to console, without question.

"We've got this product, and we've got Warhammer at play," he continued, "So we're trying to look at the primary research required to understand how would you deploy it, what the client size looks like, how big is the back-end, what the play experience looks like... Once we've got some of those questions answered, we'll be able to decide which is the right play to go after."

When asked if he was specifically referring to SWTOR and Warhammer Online, Gibeau replied, "They're both under consideration." However, he added, "We're not really in a place to commit or announce anything specific with regards to those."

Gibeau is president of the EA Games label, which published Warhammer Online for PC in September. LucasArts is publishing SWTOR, but the game is being developed by BioWare - which is owned by EA. So what's in it for them?

"There is a set of business terms that have been worked out in terms of how the companies are going to relate, and so it's a typical, standard relationship from that standpoint," Gibeau stated. "This is a BioWare-Lucas-built product, and EA is a partner in that because we own BioWare."

The EA exec declined to discuss the financial terms of the deal or whether EA will have a profit share in SWTOR, simply stating, "I'm not going to go into that."

A release date for Star Wars: The Old Republic has yet to be announced.

LucasArts online head Tom Nichols has told VG247 that upcoming BioWare MMO Star Wars: The Old Republic is a PC-only game, ostensibly conflicting a report that the title is in consideration for console release.

“It is PC-only,” said Nichols when asked if KOTOR’s Xbox tradition would be upheld.

When pushed on whether or not the game would come to consoles in the future, Nichols there was only one version currently in the works.

“We’re just focussed on the PC platform at this time,” he added.

Nichols was speaking at the San Francisco launch of The Old Republic, on the same day EA Games president Frank Gibeau told Eurogamer there was a possibility the title could move to consoles.

“They’re both under consideration,” he said, speaking of TOR and Mythic’s Warhammer Online, but added, “We’re not really in a place to commit or announce anything specific with regards to those.”

Upshot: don’t expect The Old Republic on your 360 any time soon.

Yea, that last picture is really cool. It looks as if theyve fixed the "big gulp" size lightsaber hilts.

Not interested. I'm sure it'll be great and all, but I want KOTOR 3 and the continuation of Revan's story, not a loosely-connected MMO. I've stayed MMO-free and plan to continue doing so for the rest of my life, if possible.

It looks as if George Lucas came and shat on this... There's creatures from his movies and character look-a-likes, that makes the game look less serious to me. It reminds me of the Clone Wars tv show style. I don't like the huge lightsabers either. I don't understand why they abandonned their old style from the original KOTOR. It's one of the reasons why I loved it so much... :( It didn't look like anyother game. W/e.

I'm still very dissappointed and not impressed. Will I give it a chance? Of-course. I love KOTOR to death and would hate to just discard the latest installment because of a few thoughts after seeing screenshots and 2 mins of gameplay. I will say however this game looks like it needs ALOT of work and is far from being done. Thus there's still hope...

It tells you in the video Dark Lord posted.
They are right in there stylized thinking, it isn't a game people play from 8 hours then never pick up again, people will be playing it for years...

Besides the point, it's not THAT diffrent.

I rather like the new style, myself. It's much more vibrant and colorful than the KOTOR games. Much as I love those games, they could be pretty drab in a lot of areas.

If they do decide to make the game free with micro-transactions optional rather than monthly subscription fee's I think it would increase there chances of significally dented world of warcraft's 11.5 user base. EA seems to be toying with the idea with a few games in it's catague like Fifa Online and Battlefield Hereos.

The only worrying thing is if X user buys a micro-transaction Item, he or she has a significant advantage of user Y with a non-payed for item. Essentially letting people physically buy enhancements than earn them within the game. It could also render the whole point of raiding/dungeons kinda pointless if you can just buy a more powerful item with a few real world penny's.

I probably still wouldn't play it, but I can think of nothing better to topple WoW off its throne than a KOTOR-based MMO.

I agree, but it seems like the new style is trying too hard to be Clone Wars. It forces me to ask, is Lucas trying to kidiffy this game as well?

Second that. KOTOR had the best story in a game I've ever played.

I don't like MMOs either. I want to pay for my games once.
