With practiced ease, I land my fighter on the Dreams. I flip the comm switch open. "Kelsa, I'm docked. You're free to jump."

"Acknowledged, Skywalker."

I pop the canopy open and pull of my helmet. In the doorway, I notice Joran standing alone. I grab my pack and climb down. There's no point in putting this off, and I'd rather deal with this now, before we need to concentrate on the fight.

"Joran. Join me in my quarters?"

I've been dreading this conversation, but at the same time I've been looking forward to it. I need to clear the air once and for all regarding what had happened with Servus. Now is as good a time as any.

"Of course, Master." I say as I follow behind him toward his quarters.

We walk down the corridor in silence to my quarters on the Dreams. I can feel the ship jump to hyperspace as the doors open and we step inside. I slip my pack onto my bed and start taking everything out.

"So..."

I just stand there as Master Skywalker unpacks, waiting for the barrage of questions to start.

Joran's reluctance doesn't get by me. I exhale slowly and stop packing, taking a seat instead.

"What happened, Joran? We tried following you're trail and wound up on Corellia. And then I had to learn from a security officer that you froze the Lightsaber Killer in carbonite?"

"He found us on Corellia. He knew that we'd been tracking him. He attacked us, we had fought him off but he kept coming. I did everything I could to stop him, but he just kept coming. If I didn't do something to stop him, he would have killed all of us...then he would have gone about his business hunting down Force sensitives and killing them."

I pause for a moment.

"It was not the way that I wanted things to happen, but I didn't have much of a choice in the matter."

He sits there, not letting his expression give away what he is thinking, but I can sense his uncertainty in the Force.

"I know what you're thinking. And I know what Huc and Mission think. Hell, I've even been thinking about the possibility...but I want you to know, I'm not."

I take a deep breath before I continue on.

"I did what I did because it was the best option in a bad situation. I did what I had to do keep him from killing all of us. I'm not turning to the dark side. I'm not becoming your father."

Joran catches me by surprise with his last comment. I'm not sure what bothers me more. That he thought he was turning, or that the thought even crossed my mind.

"Joran. You're not turning. Trust me. I've been to the edge...I know what it's like. But...I'd be lying if I said I wasn't concerned. Especially considering what you did to that CorSec security officer..."

Joran looks away at that.

"Why'd you do that? You entered an innocent person's mind to get your way. That's not something we can do lightly."

"Maybe there was a better way." I acknowledge.

"But at the time it seemed like the best way to get things done. He was persistant in taking custody of Darth Servus, and would not listen to me. He was so caught up with the idea that somehow taking possession of the Lightsaber Killer would help boost his career that he would not listen to reason."

I cringe as I hear the words come out of my mouth. However, they are the truth, so I just continue.

"So I used the Force to influence his mind. Like I said, looking back there probably was a better way, but at the time it seemed my best option. But if I could do it again, I would have tried to find another solution."

So, I finally learn the name of the Killer. But that's beside the point.

"The question is, Joran, why was it so important for you to take custody of...Darth Servus? Was it pride? Revenge? Did you think you had to prove yourself? A jedi is supposed to be above such things, you know this."

I lean back in my chair, folding my hands calmly. "There was no need to change the officer's mind. Let him have the glory, it doesn't matter. Once you were back, we could have gove to CorSec together, with the authority of the New Republic behind us, and taken possession of the prisoner. Now, we'll be lucky if the officer doesn't press charges, or at least file a complaint."

Joren just sits there for a moment before shaking his head.

"It wasn't any of those things. I really can't explain it. I just felt that CorSec didn't understand what they had in their possession. The most important thing to me was getting him into New Republic custody as soon as possible."

He pauses.

"If the officer does press charges, I'll take responsibility for my actions. But like I said, at the time I saw that as the best way to deal with the situation. After thinking about it, I realize that I was wrong...and as I said, I would do things differently if faced with the same situation."

I consider Joran's words, and can feel his regret. "That right there. That remorse you're feeling? That's how you know you're not turning to the Dark Side."

Joren weighs Luke's words for a moment. After taking some time to consider what he had just said, Joren speaks up again.

"and that is something that has been bothering me. After I froze Servus in the carbonite, I felt nothing. I didn't feel remorse, I didn't feel relief...I didn't even feel concern for his life. At that point I didn't care if he lived or died. I've been thinking about that alot, trying to figure out why I felt so...cold. I don't know if it was because of the adrenaline rush I was feeling from the fight, or because of any number of factors that I haven't considered."

He pauses as he tries to finish his thought.

"I felt absolutely nothing, and that terrifies me."

"I...I'm not going to lie to you, Joran. I honestly don't know what to make of that. What I do know, is that the path to the Dark Side is filled with anger, and vengeance, and the quest for power. To feel nothing...doesn't sound like the Dark Side, does it?"

"I don't know...I suppose not." Joren says, feeling reassured by Master Skywalker.

"I mean, I didn't think that I was going down that path...but thinking back on what had happened, and my reaction to those events did have me concerned somewhat, especially after feeling what Mission and Huc had felt when they saw what I'd done. It was their reactions that really had me worried."

"And those were...?"

"Shock, disgust...and fear."

Joren takes a deep breath.

"They were actually afraid of me...or what they thought I was becoming."

I nod, secretly wishing I could talk to Ben or Yoda right now.

"It's understandable. I was afraid of my powers once as well. I even disobeyed Master Yoda once." I shake my head. "To this day I'm still not sure if it was the right decision or not."

"But it all worked out. I learned my lesson, focused on my training, and now here I am. Starting a new Order with all of you. Fear is a normal reaction Joran. It's a healthy one to have. But a Jedi overcomes their fears. He strives for calm in the turmoil. He does what is right, even when it's the hardest thing to do. Sometimes even I forget how new you are to all of this. What I went through feels like a lifetime ago. But you and the others will get through it. I feel you have the potential to be a great Jedi, Joran. Trust your feelings, in the end, it's all any of us can do."

Joren smiles despite himself. Not out of pride, but out of relief. Hearing that Master Skywalker had also made mistakes along the way made him seem more human. It was comforting in a way.

"Thank you Master, I will. I won't let you down."

Pellaeon stands slightly straighter. "Admiral."

"Captain. I've reviewed the report on Zsinj's attack."

"Yes, sir. Attacks on the Corellian targets proceed better than expected. New Republic forces were slower to respond than planned."

"That is because Zsinj decided to implement some 'unorthodox', and unauthorized, tactics."

"Successful tactics, from the looks of it, sir."

"Indeed." I rub my chin in thought. "Time until we return to Wayland?"

"A quarter day. I assume you do not wish to announce our arrival to the surface station?"

"You assume correctly, Captain. Although, I doubt it will matter little with our new ally now aware of us."

Pellaeon shifts uncomfortably. I'm not quite sure if it's because I mentioned C'baoth, or because Pellaeon finally realized that Rukh had slipped behind him. "Yes, sir."

I smirk slightly, but not so anyone would notice. "I want a full report from our scouts at the battle within the hour, Captain."

"I'll deliver it personally, sir."

"Very good. I'll be in my quarters. See that I'm not disturbed. I have some very interesting pieces of art to examine."

I've always wondered what passed for art on a backwater world like Tatooine...

I sit cross-legged in the Dreams’ cargo bay, tuning my mandoviol. It has been sometime before I have had a moment alone. I have begun to wonder if I have made the right choice accepting the role of a Jedi. At first I told myself I was working for the greater good, that my role as a guardian of the galaxy would help bring about peace and tranquility. This journey of ours is becoming increasingly violent, increasingly stressful. It seems as if though every one of our accomplishments is immediately followed by and dwarfed by an even greater disaster, this attack on Corellia being the most recent. I wonder if my role is significant, if I truly make any real contribution to the efforts of Mister Skywalker and his Order or the New Republic.

But then I remember all I have learned about the Force. According to Skywalker, it is what guided me to him and his hidden enclave. And it is what has brought me here aboard this ship and it is to take me to Corellia to stop the monstrosity that is the Empire from ravaging an innocent world. Perhaps I do serve some purpose. But what? I am not as skilled with the blade as the human students Huc or Joren, nor am I as resourceful as Mister Skywalker, nor a skilled pilot like Captain Solo or Antilles, nor am I a diplomat or gunslinger. What then can I contribute? The answer, I’m sure, lies in the Force. I close my eyes and my fingers nimbly pluck at the many strings of my instrument, filling the room with the sweet sound of an old hymn from Ithor. I slow my breathing and my heart and begin to reach out to the Force, feeling its energy flow through me. I can see faint visions of myself trekking through the jungles of Yavin, of me sitting in the cargo bay, playing my instrument, and of several massive triangular ships surrounding a planet covered in oceans and golden, rolling plains. To my annoyance, the visions slowly fade away. The past, the present, the future. All before my eyes, all together. Truly marvelous is the Force. I do hope Mister Skywalker gives me more tutoring soon. There seems to be so many more secrets to this power that I hope to unlock.

I open my eyes and slide my hand up and down the neck of the mandoviol, my fingers dancing around the frets as my other hand quickly plucks string after string.

I put my hand on Joran's shoulder as we walk out of the room.

"Don't worry about it, Joran. There's no way you could."

We only get a few steps down the corridor when music softly reaches us.

"Why don't you go ahead to the others. I'll join you to go over tactics in a few minutes."

Leaving Joran behind, I walk to the door, and stand outside the room from which the music resonates. I raise my hand to signal, but I can't bring myself to interrupt. The music...I've never heard anything quite like it. Or felt anything quite like it. The notes seem to glide across the emotional spectrum.

And then there's the Force. I can feel such energy, and such peace. Such high's and lows. I've been in touch with the Force for years, but I'm not sure if I've ever been that in tune with it, so to speak.

The music pauses for a moment, and I'm able to regain my senses again. I hear the plucking start, but signal my presence before it can continue.

As I prepare to play the next verse, I feel a subtle tremor in the Force. I look up and see Mister Skywalker standing at the cargo bay’s doorway.

“Hello, Mister Skywalker. Is there something I can help you with?”

Leia sits aboard the Falcon as the ship rockets toward Corellia. The last she heard the Imperials, who were using weapons and craft that were somehow different from the normal Imperial weaponry had successfully ambushed Corellia, devestating some of the orbital manufacturing stations, and landing ground troops on the surface of the planet.

The Imperials had attacked with a tremendous show of force...more than half a dozen Star Destroyers and an untold number of support vessels and troop transports.

The New Republic was sending a fleet of its own, however much of the fleet is still dealing with the Imperials' deception at Zeltros and the arrival of many of the ships needed for an operation of this scale will be delayed. Mon Mothma herself had reached out to Prince Isolder in the Hapes Consortium, however he too will not be able to get his fleet to Corellia in time.

So here she is, going into battle against a large Imperial fleet on the Falcon...with only the newly reformed Rogue Squadron, the Darq Dreams and the Errant Venture, as well as Ordo and his small force of Mandalorians to help reinforce the small New Republic force that has already arrived in the Corellian system.

The odds are against them, but as Han has said time after time...never tell her the odds.

And that is when she gets an idea.

"Threepio, come here for a moment."

"Of course, Mistress Leia. How can I be of service?"

"I need you to record a message and transmit it to a specific set of coordinates. Can you do that?"

"Naturally Mistress Leia. It will be my pleasure." The gold plated droid answered, in a tone that said he was almost insulted by the question, but doing his best not to show it.

"Good, then begin recording now." She says and waits until the droid indicates that he has begun recording the message.

"General Alexander Barrett, we need your help....."

"General Alexander Barrett, we need your help....."

Communications Tech Lowenstein's comm center lights up in a flurry of activity sparked by Leia's recording.

Lowenstein calls out, "General!"

Barrett enters and says, "Report Lowenstein."

She plays back the recording and Barrett presses a bright blue button on the comm panel and suddenly the sound of an alert fills the base.

Barrett says into a mic, "MOUNT UP WE ARE AIRBORNE IN 1!"

He looks at Lowenstein and says, "Upload the message to the claw. Then get on board."

Within a 30 seconds Barrett is on-board closely followed by the unit.

He allows himself a quiet grin amazed that they we're on board quicker than he anticipated.

Hernandez yells, "Crew present and accounted for!"

Barrett replies, "Go!"

The Eagle Claw takes flight and breaks orbit.

Hernandez says, "Free and clear to navigate!'

Barrett responds, "Set course for Corellia engage the Hyperdrive-XL unit."

The ship quickly accellerates into hyperspace.

Hernandez says, "We should be there within the next 25 minutes."

Barrett responds, "All-right. Engage the auto-pilot and get back here I have briefing to give."

Hernandez enters the command center as Barrett begins, "About 3 minutes ago we recieved a communique."

Lowenstein plays Leia's recording and each crew member studies every word.

Once the recording ends Barrett says, "Now we are a covert unit, but the Alliance is in trouble and we are still a part of it so we will assist. That being said fraternization with other Alliance members is prohibited remember we don't exist."

Barrett lets that sink in and sees no one is disappointed or downhearted but rather everyone has a look of focus and intensity.

Perfect! This is what I've been trainning them for. This unit could workout after all.

He continues, "All-right Hernandez you will drop myself and the rest of the unit on the planet surface you are going to help with the orbital battle."

Barrett pulls up a 3-D grid of the latest intell photos and says, "Hernandez you are going to provide a source of great frustration. I want you to hit their supply ships just one or two shots at a time concentrate on the engines with some of the torpedos on board you might even get a ship or two to go. Once you've got their attention and they shoot at you engage your cloak and get out. If it works right they'll not only become concerned about their supplies but they won't know where you'll becoming from next. Make everything as random as you can and if you get lucky they may even fire on themselves."

Hernandez responds, "A peek-a-boo attack."

Barrett says, "Exactly."

Hernandez smirks and nods. Most of his commanders hated Hernandez's arrogance and over-confidence Barrett though loved it. It helped instill a sense of confidence and back-bone to the group.

Barrett continues, "The rest of us will land here just about 2 miles away from the main bulk of the fighting. Their communications array is staged here our mission take it over and then have some fun with their messages. Questions?"

He sees no one motioning or even a look of concern.

Barrett says, "All-right gear it up!"

The crew leaves to get their gear and Barrett says to Lowenstein, "Send the following message on the same frequency to Leia. Enroute e-t-a less than 15 and then get your gear together."

She nods and sends the message.

I smile at Boolon's honorific. I just don't have the heart to correct him. And, honestly, I sort of don't want to. Being called Master still feels weird after all these years. I wonder if I'll every get used to it.

"No, not really. I was just listening to your music. You're very good. And very in tune with the Force when you play."
