Apparently there's a movement called SGU SUCKS ?

Most of their *****ing is about Brad Wright blaming SGA fans for SGU's poor performance and Gateworld censoring posts. If you go to any blog post that's about Brad Wright's comments, it's mostly negative stuff, which indicates that SGU Sucks just happens to be a vocal part of the majority of Stargate fans.

Last year before Google updated typing in "Stargate Universe" in the search parameters brought up suggestions of "SUCKS" first and second and least 5 other pejoratives.

Okay, this episode was a move in the right direction. Wow, that was actually fun to watch!

I joined SGU Sucks this week BECAUSE of Brad Wright's comments. :) Does that make me a hater? There are only 180 active members on the forum, which even by SGU's terrible audience records, is barely a blip on the radar. Quite frankly I don't understand why so many people associated with Stargate (producers and the like) would pay any attention to 180 people who just want a place to ***** about the show.

Isn't it better to keep that kind of atitude contained than to let it spill over into other forums? As a newbie I will say that some people there are looking forward to SGU's cancellation like it's freakin Christmas or something, making bets when the blessed announcement will take place. I don't want SGU to be cancelled but I do want it to improve and I want stupid mean spirited comments like the one Brad Wright made, or ignorant like David Blue made, to be over. IF it gets cancelled, I won't consider it a personal victory or anything.

I don't benefit from SGU being cancelled with anything other than extra time because I don't have to watch it and review it anymore.

Do you review for a site?

That would explain why someone who complains about a show so much keeps watching it.

Do you review for a site?

TVblog.ro. It's in Romanian. :) But I also have a youtube channel for english stuff. :) Though I do mostly movie reviews there. It wouldn't be possible for me to write the romanian version and then film the english version for all the **** I review. For instance right now I have on my plate for TVblog.ro Caprica, Smallville, Stargate: Universe, The Big Bang Theory, The Vampire Diaries, The Walking Dead. I also have my own review blog where I TRIED to do Chuck, The Event and Boardwalk Empire but have fallen way behind with those.

Boy. I spend a lot of time on this crap!

That would explain why someone who complains about a show so much keeps watching it.

Yeah, I would concede that for the new Knight Rider and Bionic Woman shows which I had to do reviews for. I really really hated those and wished I could stop watching. Which I could actually, I mean it would be no big deal. Just have somebody replace me. But it became a point of pride to see it through the end.

It's not nearly that bad with SGU because it's not nearly that bad of a show obviously. And while I do come to this forum to air out my grievances from time to time, I'd like to think that I'm pretty level headed when it comes to writing reviews I know people are gonna read and some of those people may have really liked the episode. So the point is not to complain, but to ARGUE why I feel the way I feel.

Take for instance this week. I clearly stated from the beginning that this week I was pretty po'ed because of "certain statements" and that might have affected my opinion of The Greater Good, in the sense that right after I watched it... I thought it was silly. But after giving the idea some thought... It kinda grew on me. I like the idea of a ship jumping from place to place in space trying to find the origin of the Universe.

Unfortunately, I happen to believe the idea is way to heavy for NEW viewers to jump on board. Especially the way Rush explained it to Young. Now if it would have been something simple like: "Destiny wants to DESTROY the Universe". Mwahahaha! And then well it would make sense that the people on board would have to put off going home because they don't want to destroy the Universe. They wouldn't put it off because Rush gave them some speech about...

I liked Knight Rider and Bionic Woman. :( (Although I liked KR a lot more when they finally changed it back to lone knight driving around from place to place).

But, I don't miss either of them. They're no big loss.

And you won't have to worry about Caprica and Smallville anymore :p

Of course the irony is after b@#tching incessantly about Caprica since it started, I actually really liked episode 14 which is the one RIGHT after cancellation. Oh, and the dudes who were supposed to be from Gemenon. Were speaking Romanian when they first boarded the ship (i understand it's a reference to the Dacians).

OF COURSE. Right when the Romanians show up, the party's over. Goddamnit!

I agree with this. If I was on board had a family and life back on earth I would be "I don't give rats ass about about its mission" I want to go home.

The only ones interested is staying would be Rush and perhaps some of the Scientists with no lives.

And now that they have control, why don't they turn around to go back for whats his face who was stranded back on the other ship with the Aliens.

Wait, so people are bashing the show because the story isn't simple enough? :P

They could. Except, didn't the aliens steal enough power from Destiny to power the seed ship? They could be anywhere by now.

I guess it comes down to differences in personality. If I like something, I try to spend some time talking about it. If I don't like something, I will mention it and then move on. But to create or join a site that is made just to complain about a certain show....that to me is just plain weird.

indeed, but I think we can all agree that this latest batch of sci fi hasn't been as satisfying as that that came before. Mind you, I thought atlantis was pretty crappy. But I have been hoping in the back of my mind that SGU and Caprica move on, opening 2 series worth of production space for something 'more' (more than what they have delivered). Caprica I saw going somewhere very interesting, but it's build up is too slow (but that being said, its buildup required a snail's pace to be satisfying)... SGU, I don't see going anywhere(much like the rest of the gate-verse; too much focus on single servings, instead of the long run feast) but will have a handful of good single serving episodes.

IMO, SGU and Caprica were misteps... and I'd like to see what other shows have to offer when they move on. The available selection of sci fi on TV, for me atleast, is slim right now, and SGU and Caprica have both failed to fill that void.

BSG:Blood and Crome appears to be a move in the right direction. If SGU moves on, I'd be excited and interested to see what takes its place.

Well then the Hype is full of weirdos. :whatever: Why does a negative opinion need justification to be discussed? And once again, I would've never joined SGusucks if it wasn't for the power that be's negative comments. So in a sense I didn't even join to complain about the show, i joined to express my disappointment regarding the SGU's bad PR move and I knew there would be people there who empathized. Case in point, after spending some time on that forum I realized that I'm not nearly as pissed off on SGU as I thought I was, compared to other people. AND, now that I've had time to think about it, I actually kind of liked this week's episode. It is in fact one of the best of the season. It's also another nail in the coffin because I honestly believe this kind of plotline will not bring in new viewers.

Huh... really?
To clarify: I'm understanding that you meant SGU is more single story episodes with less focus on a long story arc or that's going anywhere?
However, to me it seems like SGU is the first of the three SG shows that have opened with, and continue to do a long story arcs spanning the season and/or multiple episodes.
They've also constantly brought back concepts or tied in irrelevant things from the one-shot episodes into the larger picture.(Scott's delusional vaca on 'Earth' showed us how much more F'd Chloe's physiology was than they had initially thought)
Granted, for that reason I think it's almost impossible for anyone new to 'jump into' the show... considering almost ever episode is littered with referances to previous plots/characters/events/etc.

But I like the long ranging storyline, especially considering how fast the storylines are progressing. (I expected them to milk the formula of 'we can't control the ship!' for a lot longer than they did.)

Well then the Hype is full of weirdos. :whatever:
It has its fair share, that's for sure.

Why does a negative opinion need justification to be discussed?
I didn't say it did...I said that joining a site created just to bad mouth something is weird to me.

Fine, if that's what you want to do, great...but if you reread my post....I was commenting that it's not the kind of thing I would do and that I have trouble understanding why people would. I absolutely can't stand rap music...I am willing to bet that there are at least a couple of I HATE RAP websites...but I wouldn't even consider looking for one or joining one or even reading the comments on one. Not my thing.

Like I said, I do reviews for a site, and I always try to argue why I feel the way I feel. Some times that is hard for me to understand, let alone try to take that sentiment and create a relevant text out of it. So yeah, maybe i decided to explore the "dark side" of fandom, or even my dark side as a fan. Anyway, you think it's weird, fine, you wonderfully positive person.

Arguing incessantly about how bad a tv show is is seems pathetic to me. It is a tv show, if you don't like it why waste your time watching it or getting frustrated over it, and then vent on forums about it. Stop watching it and move on to doing and watching something you like. Obsessing over such trivial matter is a sign of an empty life. It seems like such a waste of time when there is so much to do in real life.

To me these forums should be about discussing positively the stories, the characters, and speculations. Not to continually bash the show you obviously don't like, if just don't see the point in it.

By the way, my remarks are made in general, not towards anyone in particular.

Back to the show...

Now that they can control the Destiny, why not just turn around and go back to Earth? Since they can control all aspects of it (FTL, navigation, etc) they can head back and dip into a nearby star to replenish the fuel it uses.

I know it would be a great adventure to find the source of all creation but like someone else said in this thread, people have families back on earth and they could care less about something that may or may not exist. Not to mention how far and long they have to travel to reach it.

it would take at least hundreds of years at max Hyper speed to get home... the people on the ship can never return to Earth in their own bodies.

now, if they were able to get a connection from Destiny to Earth, then i would see the crew change drastically but i can't see that happening this season....

I do agree with you about wasting your time by complaining about a show if you don't like it.... i think i made one post in the V thread after i found the pilot boring... and i looked in once after that to see if there were any reactions... Same with Caprica... i just don't see the point...

That's why I think they might as well continue Destiny's mission. Until they figure out a way to dial home (which Eli is doing), they're still stranded on the ship. By continuing the mission, they're at least working towards something that can be very important, if not get them home anyway. And that's assuming they don't find something on the way that can help them (and, basically, any direction is going to be just as good as another, so why not go in the direction the mission dictates?)

SGU would be better if we figured out destiny's mission in the first season. We are almost half way through the second season and they are still not acting like a real crew. All of the general conflicts between the crew should of been dealt with in the first season.

Bad PR move....what was that....and i agree Black Dynamite i can handle only so much drama with my SCI-FI.

think it's the comments by Brad Wright about the fans punishing the show....

SGU has made 2 big PR failures IMHO.... first was the way they revealed the show..... and the second was the VERY poorly worded casting description for Perry
