yeah, but none took it to the scale that trek did. It's like Star Wars.... once it came along, virtually all space adventurer movies dissappeared. It took a genre and poored enough money into it to make it huge and pretty much become the representing patriach of the genre.

it's taken sci fi a long time to shed trek stigma... now if GL would stop shoving SW down our throats, sci fi as a genre would have a chance to grow, free of last generations winners.

Winners are usually good though... cause they win.

that clacking sound you all heard last night....Woolseys balls of steel....I like Picardo in this role and it sucks he won't have more time in it....enjoyed the episode last night...it's a nice bridge leading into the conclusion of the series

right, but sometimes it's taken too far, and eventually something new has to come along, otherwise the audience will get bored. But it's very interesting that there is an identifiable 'natural selection' process that took place within the sci fi genre. I've always looked at the SG property as a transitional series, between the old formulaic 'trek' and the current post 2000 sci fis. But alas, I feel like Atlantis has taken a step backward in the evolution of sci fi, back to the 'safe' formula based episodes, rather than moving forward.

But not every show has to be edgy and new to be good. This season of Atlantis has been it's best.

I finally caught up on Atlantis. Not a bad season, especially "Tracker" and, surprisingly, "Inquisition." I like the idea of the other humans in the Pegasus galaxy finally calling the Atlantis expedition on some of the bulls*** they've pulled over the years.

Yeah, Woolsey's been kicking ass so far. I loved him in "Inquisition."

Yeah I liked Inquisition to specifically because they DID deserve what was coming to them and in typical Atlantis fashion they got out of it by cheating!

Haha, I know, they're a terrible bunch of dickbags who f*** everyone else over in their own self-interest routinely. I liked how even Teyla and Ronon just kind of looked away when McKay insisted that the expedition had been a great boon to the Pegasus galaxy.

Well... kind of more than those villages. The people from those villages didn't join the Atlantis field team and actively assist in making most of the things the Atlantis expedition was accused of possible.

Oh, and how exactly? Take Ronon. He wasn't there when the Atlantis team arrived, he was against altering Michael's DNA. All the major decisions were taken by Weir and/or Sheppard and McKay/Beckett were responsible for making those decisions possible through their scientific and technological contributions. Teyla and Ronon were henchmen at best.

Yeah, but they stick around and continue to work with Atlantis anyway. They're guilty by association, as far as the coalition people were concerned. If they truly objected, they would've stopped Atlantis from doing some of the stupid crap they've done. Obviously, that's a biased viewpoint, but the coalition was pretty clearly biased all over.

friday's episode was totally predictable... but fun.

one thing about the halucination though. You know, when they took off sheppard's hand, I was like: YES, finally a little realism. And it got even sweeter as Sheppard began to kill people, even without the hand. It was clear that it was all a halucination from about 10 minutes in, but I just think it would have been awesome if Sheppard's amputation was actually real.

otherwise, a very enjoyable episode of SGA

I was actually surprised he lost his hand and thought it might stick. There was a little voice in my head going, "It's Stargate, you know there's some catch that'll either reveal it's fake or allow him to get his hand back," but I tried to drown it out. Then, of course, we see that it's fake. Oh well, still a nice episode thanks to the inimitable Robert Picardo. Not being able to see Woolsey grow more is my one source of real sadness that Atlantis is getting canceled.

I loved Picardos interview about the difference in climate between working on "Star Trek" and working on "Stargate"...basically saying that the people over on Trek take it so serious like they are curing cancer or something and don't know how to lighten up.....it's the first time anyone from any Trek show has really voiced an opinion like that, in my recollection

I loved Picardos interview about the difference in climate between working on "Star Trek" and working on "Stargate"...basically saying that the people over on Trek take it so serious like they are curing cancer or something and don't know how to lighten up.....it's the first time anyone from any Trek show has really voiced an opinion like that, in my recollection

and collectively, their property has lived far far longer, while it seems like Stargate is on it's death's knell.

stargate doesn't often take itself as seriously as it should, and that has really affected the show IMO, most especially the convenient solution internal joke that was slightly apparent in SG1, but SGA hinges on it. Not cool
