Stargate SG-1/Atlantis/Universe

The Universe premise sounds interesting. I don't have much faith left in the creators behind the televised Stargate franchise, but I'm sure they can spin a mildly entertaining show out of that concept. But it's a shame that every new idea they have seems to take them further away from the heavily realistic take on sci fi that initially made SG-1 so great (along with RDA's glibness, of course).

you know, I'd love to see a show about 'the last ancient'. 'Medievel Stargate'. Something along the lines like he is the last, all the others have ascended and he's the only one that hasn't. Drama ensues as he has a monopoly on knowledge that is the key to survival for the other 3 members of alliance of 4 Great Races.

Instead of military, it could be 'questing space knights' and they could play on the Ori, Merlin, Sangreal strings a little.

Well, Universe is supposed to go where no other Stargate series has gone before... ;)

But not boldly, mind. Never boldly.

I lol'ed. :hehe:

What's funny is, I was just thinking that the Stargate Universe, which is supposed to be occurring in our present, has essentially surpassed Star Trek (occurring FAR into the future) in technology.

I mean - Voyager was stuck for almost a decade in another part of OUR galaxy, whereas Stargate voyagers can pretty much 'teleport' to another galaxy - and Voyager was the top-of-the-line when it went into service. Even Hyperspace flight is much, MUCH faster than Warp flight, considering Warp can barely traverse the limits of the Alpha Quadrant, whereas Hyperspace Drive equipped ships in the SG Uni can travel to the Pegasus galaxy (over 2 million light-years away) in 3 weeks.

In comparison, Voyager would have taken 70+ years to travel 75,000 light-years (Delta Quadrant to Alpha Quadrant).

Damn. I just thought of something. I wonder what a "Replicator vs Borg" war would be like?

EDIT: I made a thread about my question ^: http://forums.superherohype.com/showthread.php?p=13943183

Sci Fii has picked up "Sanctuary", a new series from Stargate vets Amanda Tapping, Martin Wood, and Damian Kindler.
http://www.reuters.com/article/tele...ageNumber=1&virtualBrandChannel=10004&sp=true
Sci Fi Channel has green-lighted "Sanctuary," the first television series to use live-action actors against virtual sets in the style of the features "300" and "Sin City."
Sci Fi has ordered a full 13-episode season of the new scripted drama series, which originated online as the first high-definition sci-fi Web series.
"Sanctuary" hails from the "Stargate SG-1" trio of star Amanda Tapping, writer-producer Damian Kindler and producer-director Martin Wood, who are executive producing the series with Sam Egan.
Tapping stars as the enigmatic Dr. Helen Magnus, who is on a quest with her young protege, Will Zimmerman (Robin Dunne), to track down, aid and protect strange creatures that walk the earth.
Kindler created "Sanctuary," and Wood directed the webisodes starring Tapping.
"Sanctuary" launched on the Internet last year using a subscription model, but many of its webisodes found their way to video-sharing sites like YouTube.
Regarding Atlantis.........
The series is slated to begin production in March. By most estimates, the writers' strike will be over by then, but that is not a factor for the show, whose production is strike-proof because it's based in Canada. Sci Fi's "Stargate Atlantis" is in a similar position and will begin filming its fifth season in a couple of weeks. Tapping, who co-starred on that series last season, will return for several episodes
well at least she'll have a good explanation for not being on Atlantis that often, although we could have more "where's carter?" episodes

Cool news. I like Sanctuary. I wonder if they'll air the already shot webisodes and redo the special effects with the (presumably) higher budget.

I watched about half of the first episode of Sanctuary before giving up on it. It was pretty awful.

I'll be sure to alert Rangerboard for former 2004 Power Ranger Emma Lahana's appearence. I wonder if you remember this Brent

A mod on rangerboard finding she's in the ep

Febuary 1st? Someone bump this thread a few days before it airs so that I can remember to watch that crappy show for her.

he's kind of strict and at times an ass

"Keep the ****ty captions in the ****ty captions thread"

or if a thread gets off topic he cleans out the "garbage"

"I'll start handing out infractions"

Who's Brent?

Also, I find it hilarious that a guy on a Power Rangers message board can call Stargate Atlantis a crappy show with a straight face.

Has it been posted in here yet about the cast list for S5 being revealed on Monday?

Apparently it'll reveal that there will be another new commander for Atlantis, Someone TPTB had on the list for this season.

Another one? Jeebus, is this gonna become a seasonal theme now? And, really, unless it's RDA or Shanks or Chris Judge, I'm gonna be kind of disappointed that Carter's out. :(

Stargate Universe premise revealed

Ok...Is it me...but doesn't this new show begs to have Daniel Jackson as the star? I mean..he knows more about the ancients than anyone. I wouldn't mind Ben Brower return too. Keep the rest of the cast as unknowns

And the new commander of the Atlantis is...................
http://www.gateworld.net/news/2008/02/robert_picardo_joins_iatlantisi_.shtml

Actor Robert Picardo will join the cast as Richard Woosley assumes command of the Atlantis expedition. Says the press release: "The team, led by Lt. Colonel John Sheppard(Joe Flanigan), Dr Rodney Mckay(David Hewlett), Teyla (Rachel Luttrell), Ronon (Jason Momoa) and Dr. Jennifer Keller (Jewel Staite), must adjust to his unique leadership style."

Eh. I'm sure it's better for the writers because they expressed dissatisfaction with lovable ol' Carter's inability to create tension, but Woolsey? He's proven himself good-hearted but pretty incompetent throughout both SG-1 and Atlantis. Oh well, we'll see where it goes. I would've preferred seeing Daniel take over, myself. Perfect mix of military knowledge thanks to his decade with SG-1 and civilian understanding of diplomacy and negotiations.

Yeah, Daniel would be great, especially since he was basically the star of SG-1 for the last couple of seasons. I wouldn't mind if Vala came back, too. She'd gotten more tolerable by season 10.

I hope Picardo's addition to the cast won't spell doom for season 5 being the last one. Much like Browder and Claudia joining the cast in 9 and 10.

Personally I think Tapping was wasted, she was the bench warmer. If TPTB had known what they know now, she could have just done 7 episodes to fulfill her contract.

Instead we had episodes where it looked like Sheppard was in command and Carter was non existant.

Yeah, Carter's been basically useless. Problems arise and it's still McKay coming up with solutions all the time. What happened to the Carter we used to know, who could MacGyver a solution to anything in record time? I think pulling her out of her niche and making her too much of a leader and not enough of a scientist has made her boring.

Woolsey has potential...that's why I think he's a good choice. He has A LOT of room to grow into a strong, intelligent leader.

I'm guessing the problem would be two heads(mckay and carter) interfering with one another. Carter would upstage mckay and mckay would become useless.

Another wasted Carter appearence was last weeks "outcast"

carter- shep, your fathers dead

*exit stage left*

I loved Picardo as the Doc in ST: VOY. He has good range as an actor.

He'll do well, as long as I get to see Sheppard put him in his place a few times.

I hate the doctor on voyager... HATE

I was already kind of on the fence about atlantis... I only watch it when I'm totally out of other things to watch. But this is bad. Picardo is good... but not good enough for this (HE WAS STARKILLER!!!!!). His addition as the team leader does not make me enthusiastic in anyway whatsoever.

Honestly I don't get what the problem is. They already have the perfect character to take over as leader of the city... but they never give her the chance. Teyla is the character that should be in charge of the city. It makes sense in so many ways that I'm not even going to list them.

My opinion on the matter can be sumed up thusly:

"YAY!"

IDK about teyla being right for the Atlantis leadership. I guess as she was the leader of her people then she has the knowledge... but would Earth put a non-Tau'ri in charge of their only outpost?

I'm also unsure about Woosley... I'll wait till i see him in action before i say yay or nay.

I am probably the only perosn who likes the fact Keller is still going to be around... But only five episodes for Carson?

Wonder how they'll get it so Dannyboy gets to Atlantis and if he goes alone....

I just wanna know what they'll do for their 100th episode in the seaosn Five finale....
