Guardians of the Galaxy Starlord's Pops

I'm hoping it's Red Skull since that would just be really messed up in all the right ways.

So Starlord's mom wasn't bald from the chemo, that was actually her choice of hairstyle.

My guess is that his dad will be the Master of the Sun.

Kinda disappointed it's not J'son, but I'm sure they'll make it work. I was hoping it'd be more of an INO thing, but also make him Inhuman or something.

I think it be Adam Warlock but if not I'm going with someone who was close friends with Yondu and former teammate Starhawk.

Wonder how long adam warlock was in that cocoon. That could make being peter's dad an issue.

This is only sorta disappointing, but I trust Gunn to make it work.

I'm surprised Marvel is letting him change so much, to be honest.

I think it'll go something like this:

-Adam Warlock was a normal human who came across the Soul Stone/it came into his possession, turning him into the 'golden angel' that we see him as now.
-After he knocked up Peter's mum he left to explore space and his new-found knowledge. Like in the comics, he expels the good and bad of himself so that he can become a being of pure logic - although these forces later manifest into the Magus, unbeknownst to Adam.
-He got involved with the Collector somehow - getting Infinity Stones? - who worked out a deal with Yondu and the Ravagers to go and get Peter. Adam knew the exact time his mum would die because he could see with the Soul Stone, which is why Yondu arrived on Earth just in time.
-Somehow, Adam grew into his cocoon and the Collector made him a part of his collection.
-The hatched cocoon can supposedly be seen at the end of the movie, so when the Guardians inevitably meet up with the Collector again in the sequel he'll introduce them to Adam and put them on the team. Perhaps he tasks them to go and stop Thanos or whoever. Then somewhere later in the movie we get the Marvel version of "No, I am your father!".

The OP had some good points, but actually ignored what is so far the most established non-human race in the MCU. Who are no stranger to Earth and its people. Who have a history of being perceived by humans as divine creatures, almost like angels.

Asgardians.

Thor: Peter Quill, are you going to be as difficult as my other brother *sigh*

I'd not mind if Peter's father was an Inhuman

I've said it elsewhere, but: bet on Starhawk. He's a legacy GotG character, he's an "angel of light", and he's a complete *******.

So according to Gunn, besides J'son not being the father, we know that Yondu considers PQ's dad to not be a good guy. Hmm... This info is from Bleeding Cool

Gunn is a big fan of Starhawk. I think One-Who-Knows is a possibility for Peter's dad.

But personality wise, Starfox is a better fit.

Yes but the Nova Corps would know Starfox race since they know who Thanos is. I'm leaning towards it being Starhawk as well.

I am a bit disappointed they are not using J'Son Of Spartax. After setting Star-Lord up so well in this movie (it was an AWESOME idea where his got the name Star-Lord from BTW) I was hoping it would go more towards the comics.

I like the master of the sun idea though, means we could see ship and the element guns, maybe even The Fallen One?

I'm not even remotely knowledgeable about the Guardians, but the answer is always stick to the comics. Nothing they have changed from the comics has worked yet aside from making Stark funny. Everything else is worse than the comics.

^I wouldnt say that, Star-Lords story in this is not much like the comics for example, and Yondu is a lot different here than in the comics, same with the Nova Corps, but they all worked.

At the same time though, Rocket, Groot, Gamora, Drax, Nebula and Thanos were all very like their comic-book counterparts, and they all worked as well.

Utter crap. We tend to mythologize the "comics" as this paragon of virtue, aesthetic and flawless plotting and characterization. Nothing could be further from the truth. The comics have given the movies an absolutely stunning baseline from which to build stories from, but the changes the movies have made, for the most part, have been out of necessity.

Big fan of the Guardians comics, both the 90s run and the newer stuff. As most of the times I have no problems with changes per se, it's mostly about context and execution.

And in this case, making Quill's father not being J'Son and keeping it a mystery is something that makes me intrigued more than annoyed at THIS point.. As always with these kind of things it comes down to a very subjective personal feel of it all.

Yeah, I've started to think the same thing.

Why wouldn't they use J'son? He has potential for being a multi-movie character. He could show up in Captain Marvel, for example.

Maybe too much backstory and Gunn doesnt necessarily have that story in mind going forward.
