Starz Original Series SPARTACUS: Blood and Sand

Andy is Spartacus. They would never recast just like that.

I've got a question, just how fast is time going in this show? I was reading an IGN review of the last episode and apparently a whole year has passed since the battle with Theocles??

My grandmother died of the same ailment Andy has, that was 2 years ago. I hope he turns out alright.

Another good episode last night. It was good to see Crixus up and moving around.

I've finally just now finished watching last night's episode.

Spartacus' sparring with Crixus was good. Though I was a bit ashamed of Spartacus for his harsh treatment of Crixus during their match. I know I should shove my own values into the show but when sparring or full on fighting in the dojo, no matter who I never try to hurt the guy no matter what. I understand the bravado of it all and Crixus' motivation, but in Kyokushin, treating another student as such gets you kicked out of the organization.

The new gladiators were cool. The character that got crucified I felt sorry for, he was manipulated and lost more than his life. I really can't stand that chick.

The Spartacus/Crixus dynamic we all know from history is finally starting to gel.

Except when we saw how endowed he was I just had to laugh at how fake it was.

I was really torn with my emotions in this episode. Most of the time I kept thinking "Spartacus is such a dick" but then he goes and does something nice for Varro and the new slaves.

After this episode I really want Spartacus taken down a couple of notches or at least taught a lesson in humility. The same lesson Crixus learned and is the better man for it.

I really really hate that bi*ch Ilithyia. I hated her from the first episode and she has gotten worse over time.

Another awesome ep. Not sure how much time has past, but looks as though Spartacus has been top dog for a minute now.

When the hell is Crixus gonna do that slave girl he's in love with? :oldrazz:

The final scene of the guy hanging crucified, with his pipe hacked off and bleeding, will forever be embedded in my brain!

Awesome episode indeed. It had drama, action and even some humor. Ashor's "oh snap" expression when Spartacus insulted Crixus was funny. As was Batiatus' comment about Ilythia. "The snake arrives, walking as if human".

It was nice to see Crixus doing his thing again, sort of. Spartacus was way too harsh and arrogant. But he owes Crixus his life now so maybe he'll tone down the Wolverine attitude. Their relationship is definitely interesting. Those two working together is gonna be problem for the Romans.

Why does everyone keep saying that Spartacus was too hard on Crixus and that he was full of himself this past ep?

I think Spartacus is just giving Crixus a taste of his own medicine for once. Crixus has been a dick to Spartacus from day one, even after Spartacus bested him during the test to wear the 'B' brand on his arm. Even after beating the Anocales, Spartacus has extended his arm to Crixus many times, only to have Crixus slap it away, so i figure Spartacus had had enough of his crap and decided to teach him a lesson. After all, Spartacus has now paid his dues, so there's no need for Crixus to keep getting in his ****.

I noticed that Doctore didn't bring up Barca's death anymore; i thought maybe that was going somewhere between him and Asher, that is, but i believe some time has past since these events.

I think the only reason some of us feel that way is because we've really gotten to know Crixus in these last few episodes and he doesn't seem like such a bad guy anymore as opposed to the first couple episodes when he was a total *****e. Its easier o sympathize with him now. But i do agree, Spartacus is just teaching Crixus a lesson in humility, he pretty much deserves it.

I was wondering, why does Lucretia hide her sexual encounters with Crixus from Batiatus? Batiatus has sex with the slaves in front of his wife and from what we've seen from their attitude towards sex and status of slaves (even gladiators) it shouldn't matter.

I was also thinking that I have been operating, perhaps wrongfully, under a preconceived notion that Spartacus is a "good guy" and in turn meaning "nice guy". But given the culture we are dealing with and the lack of historical context, it is more likely that Spartacus is just as "bad" or morally deficient as any of the Romans. I would like to see him portrayed as a ruthless, *****e bag, type of "hero" than the usual Hollywood "good guy" archetype.

We've already seen this in the show and I hope they continue with it and not make Spartacus a nice guy. I think it is important to accurately depict this culture as the cruel, blood-thirsty, polytheistic savages that they are.

I think it was a different standing for men and woman, just like it is today. Even in the show Rome on Hbo, Mark Anthony would openly have sex with his slaves but his wife would not. Whenever Batiatus had sex with a slave in front of Xena, you noticed that she's the one that gave the go ahead, and gave him and/or the slave permission to do it. I guess they consider it a form of foreplay. Plus it would be bad if a high class Roman woman got pregnant by a person other than her husband,in the sence of the legal status of the child. The man was the head of the household, and i'm sure it would be a form of dishonor taking care of a child that wasn't his own; hence why Spartacus' blonde friend is so pissed off about his wife. If the husband gets a slave pregnant then i guess it's no big deal, as the child would be a slave too....

That's what i love about this show. Spartacus is not the typical hero in this. In typically Hollywood shows all the women want the hero, and all the men want to be him. In this show all the regular woman of the cast hate his guts for one reason or another, and want Crixus! All the guys on this show are not on Spartacus's jock either. They pretty much hate him too. The only chick we've seen Spartacus have sex with is his wife (maybe that will change next week by the looks of the previews); he's not the hero that gets the girl..or the ****e!

Anyhow, its an interesting and different dynamic.

In her case, it isn't just random sex. I think their situation is more of an affair, and Batiatus would be pissed if he found out due to the complexity of the situation.

I just want to know what L/B would do if he ended up knocking up one of the slave girls lol. Would not be a pretty situation.

I tend to agree with this. Lucretia isn't having random sex...she's having an affair.

she seems to geniunely love Crixus so I could see Batiatus getting pissed off if he ever found out.

Just watched episode 9 on Netflix, wow what an episode.
Spartacus screwing the wife of the man who ruined his life...bittersweet irony. Xena is proving to be one conniving b*tch. She must really love Crixus, she almost went insane when Illythia wanted to screw him.

Oh and one more thing. WHO IS THE ACTRESS WHO PLAYS THE SLAVE THAT TRIED TO SLEEP WITH SPARTACUS? DAMN SHE IS FINE!! She's the most beautiful woman i've seen on the show so far. Where are they finding these actresses?! LOL

There is no freakin way the women actually looked this good back in ancient Rome. lol. Did anyone else feel a sensory overload during this last episode? I felt like every five minutes we were being bombarded with beautiful naked women. Not that im complaining mind you, but i think episode 9 was by far the most gratuitous episode yet. I LOVE this show!

Haven't seen it yet (I watch it OnDemand), but this makes me want too even more than usual!:yay:

Yeah, there was some major boobage in this episode. I laughed like i was one of the gladiators when Asher said:"and who will face Asher?" Haha, although he did F up Varro.

If Lucretia went this nuts about Ilityia screwing Crixus, she is literally gonna explode when she finds out Crixus wants the slave girl. I'm looking forward to that.

I don't understand why Spartacus got mad when he found out he was screwing Ilythia. I would rub it in her face and in her husbands face if i were him. Besides, she's hot!
