Starz Original Series SPARTACUS: Blood and Sand

Sweet! Can't wait. So the prequel will be in January? When will the second season start?

I think the second season is supposed to air starting late next summer....

It took about 8 1/2 months to film the first season, they may be able to do season two as fast, but if they don't start filming that until November, then it means they'll be producing it up through July/August of next year.

It will probably mean any follow-up seasons will also be pushed back to summer premieres...

I think it will take them a little less time to film S2 than it did 1 since they have worked out the kinks, are used to the training and know where and what they want to do.

I just heard that Andy is completely cancer free!

I was referring to the guy that plays Legatus Claudius Glaber, not Andy/Spartacus.

Oh, gotcha and I agree. I like Craig Parker, but don't like Glaber much at all...

He's an arrogant, self-centered ass.

Great news. Hoping for season 2 production to get started ASAP.

I think they will start shooting Season 2 after the Prequel is finished.

Yeah, the article on Andy's recovery I posted had said that once the prequel finishes filming in late October, early November, they'll start up the second season production right on the heels of it.

A lot of people have complained over on the Starz forum about there not being need for a prequel anymore now that Andy is cured, but he still has to fully recover.

He had chemo and radiation therapies, so he's probably lost weight and muscle mass. He will need to bulk back up and get strong again. His hair will also need time to grow back, he'd lost it during his treatments.

It's growing back, but he had only finished his treatments three weeks ago, it will take several months for his hair to get long enough and probably more than that for him to bulk back up...

He's cured and ready to start training, but he's probably not ready to get back to filming yet. Him filming his scenes for the prequel aren't scheduled until October, that should be enough time for him.

I can't wait.

Yeah i agree. I want the second season as bad as the next guy, but not at the expense of Andy's full recovery. His body has been through a tremendous ordeal. Between now and October is ample time for him to get back on track without the burden of havng to rush to get back in shape, in order to keep his job.

His hair wasn't all that long after they chopped it from the beginning. :( It might not take that long, :p

Just because I'm still worried about Andy and his well being, is he pretty much in the clear now?

I'm sorry to say I don't know much about this stuff and luckily I've been unfortunate where none of my close friends or family members have had to endure a disease like this. Like I mean, will Andy be OK from here on out? How long might he have to worry about a relapse? I know Michael Turner probably had some different type of cancer, but I also understand Turner had relapse issues as well, correct?

Sounds great! Good for him! :D

Comiic Con needs to pay-per-view some of these panels, I would love to see it.

Michael Rosenbaum's main problem with playing Lex Luthor on Smallville was that it took 3 months for his hair to grow back to a reasonable, if short, length so he could do other roles. But for him, by the time he was done with summer and his hair had grown back, he'd have to go back to filming...

Different people's hair grows back at different speeds, so it might not take that long, but I think Andy's body is more in need of recovery than anything else.

Apparently the type of cancer he had is curable, but it requires an aggressive treatment: radiation and chemo.

It's hard on the body and even though he's been cured, it will probably take his body time to recover from all that. It's brutal, apparently. You tend to lose weight too, so I would imagine it will take time to get him into fighting form.

Well, I looked this up when he was diagnosed and if caught early and treated aggressively, it is curable.

Sounds like that's the case with Andy, but I'll keep my fingers crossed for him.

As for what his current condition is, Lucy Lawless was at a TV festival in Monaco last week. When asked about Andy's health and how what happened will affect Andy's role, she said this:

Lucy Lawless (Lucretia0 said:
I think he'll be back better than ever because he was in pain and he didn't know why and now it's been eradicated. So, I think he's going to be better than ever. We're so thrilled, so thrilled that this is behind him, for him and his lovely family.

It's all good, but I don't know what happens to his character if that was what you were asking. I don't know what happens to Spartacus.

(After unintelligible question Lucy continued)

Not anymore, no health problems, they're all clear.

It's an audio only interview, which I figured out where they put it on their site since it sucks worse than about anything I think I've ever seen before, so here's the whole file (if you want it):

Lucy Lawless and Peter Mensah (Doctore) answer the sometimes stupid questions from the European press in that MP3 file. I don't think most of them had watched the show, but is a bit long.

The bit about Andy is about 20 or 21 minutes in.

See the original page here if you're interested, they got some pretty good shows with Q&A sessions there, but Spartacus was the only one I was interested in.

(To find the MP3 files for the different shows, in Windows IE right-click on the page, View the Source - which brings up the html code in a text document - then search for the show name and look for the file location with an 'mp3' at the end...I think Firefox works similarly for this, not sure about Safari in MAC, but FYI)

Thanks for the links Triplet. Lucy Lawless sounds like a classy lady.

Yes, indeed.

I would love to see this, yet there may be a video around after the fact (if it isn't live).

Like The CW and a few other networks, Starz had posted bits of their panel last year from Comic-Con, so let's hope they do that again so we can all get a good look at everyone. I'd love to see it.

I hope the audience asks good questions.

Unfortunately, that is probably a false hope.

:(

Nothing should be on PPV.

Why? You can get most of it for free on YouTube anyway. It's not like I need it in superHD quality.

However, most everything is recorded by the staff anyway.

I hope Andy will be fully recovered from his illness before tackling S2; I want him to return to Spartacus, but not at the expense of his long-term health.

lol so they are going to start the same time as true blood airs :) it will become even more obvious how bad this "show" really is.
