State of Decay

I just read a comment elsewhere on this... They said "Think Harvest Moon meets The Zombie Survival Guide."

Buying.

Still hate running zombies. :p

So...Is it MP...Or no?

I'll probably get this but super athletic zombies are stupid... This is proof of that. Zombies shouldn't be able to do running leaps onto a ladder or over a fence.

I would say, variety is the spice of life...so to speak.

Don't get me wrong, personally I absolutely prefer the slow shambling zombies to the running and jumping or acid spitting or wall climbing or any other monstrous undead. But, given how wide spread (ironyyy!) the zombie genre is now, wouldn't it be a bit boring if every single video game, movie, comic and TV show all had their ghouls just plodding along?

Romero made the shambling thing popular, but he also made the zombies-remembering-their-previous-lives thing. He gave us zombies who could learn. Who likes that? I prefer my zombies dumb as a post.

The point that I'm shuffling toward is, I guess, the way a zombie works is not determined by what we saw in Night of The Living Dead or more recently The Walking Dead, but what the rules that are set within the world it takes place. In Left 4 Dead they could do all sorts of nonsense, same with Red Dead Redemption. I'm not a fan of the super powered zombies myself, but I'm glad they're around for the sake of something different.

Oh trust me...I haven't been a Romero guy in YEARS. I hate to say it but he's become a hack...Have you, or anyone else, seen Island of the Dead? Absolutely awful.

I do think that Kirkman took the zombie that Romero created and perfected it.

I don't mind a "faster" zombie but that one went running full speed and made a jump that I myself may not be able to do, lol.

I think REmake did the "challenging" zombie perfect. Crimson Heads were scary and a little bit on the "fast" side...but they weren't track stars.

I don't care for fast zombies, but I prefer infected* to zombies of any kind.

*meaning humans that aren't undead, but infected with some kind of disease or virus that turns them into little more than animals.

I tell you one thing, for my money the god damn scariest 'zombies' are The Crossed. Screw those guys, I'm going home.

I don't mind "infected" however... I dislike that they're always billed as zombies. If not by the original creator then the media surrounding them.

Well, I think in those instances "zombie" is used as an easy to understand, catch-all term referring to that specific enemy archetype.

Yeah...I seem to remember it not being MP too. According to Wikipedia it's just single player. This could change, I suppose.

State of Decay's character development detailed

Undead Labs has released a new dev diary covering skills and characters for its State of Decay zombie survival title.

All available survivors have four basis skills (cardio, wits, fighting, and shooting), and each character has a star rating ranging from one to seven in each skill. Additional stars are gained by successfully using the skill, and additional stars also provide the player with both active and passive abilities.

State of Decay characters also have unique trait combinations. Traits range from personality (chatterbox, selfish *******, born leader, and more) to job history to hobbies, some of which provide additional skill stars. In terms of character customization, the game allows you to choose a weapon specialization and a number of signature abilities, with the ultimate goal being a unique survivor who is both challenging and rewarding to play. You can learn more, and see some example builds, at the game's official website.

the game will soon be available apparently. Can't wait to try it!

I've been watching videos from PAX East the last couple of days and it looks like a lot of fun. Kind of rough around the edges but even if that doesn't change, it's still going to be a day-one purchase.

Other than this the only game I'm really looking forward to is GTA V, and it's a long wait until September. State of Decay can't come soon enough!

it does seem kinda rough indeed. From what I read on the official board, they will improve that for class4.

I'm waiting for GTAV as well!

I haven't bought an XBA game in a while but I'm very interested in this. Loving all that I've seen so far. I'm just wondering if there's a story with an ending? Or is this just survive as long as you can. I'd be more interested for sure if it has an ending and lets you keep playing once you finish.

Some idiot at Gamestop 'leaked' the release date at June 5th, but even the State of Decay team don't know what he's talking about. I'm certainly hoping it's sooner rather than later, as I'm currently bored of every game I own. In any case, I'll still wait a day or two after it's initial release to see what the general fan-reaction is.

it does have a real story with a beginning and an ending.

So...No co-op?

Boo. Everything almost has to have a co-op mode for me to buy it anymore. More so this late in console life.

Eh there's enough MP games out there as it is. It's not needed in everything. Things are allowed to be SP

Definitely gonna download this Wednesday asap after all I've seen. Also, this should be moved to the Microsoft forum.

...At this point in time I should be able to have a friend join me in...Everything. More so games like this.

I don't give a crap about competetive MP anymore, I rarely play anything like that anymore. I've just lost that "urge".. However, a game like this would be MUCH better to me if I could run around with one other survivor (a friend) stock piling, rebuilding, reinforcing, etc.

I'm fine with SP games...but at THIS point in my consoles life cycle..I really have to be pushed to buy anything new.

I inherited by bros xbox after he switched to PC gaming so there are a lot of game of his I haven't played. I popped in Forza while cousins were over and learned it doesn't support split screen MP. That was just the most ridiculous thing to me for a racing game to not support that. Do companies really think that people don't have their friends over anymore? I know this is the digital age but c'mon...
