The Iron Man one? Never played it but I think I remember the ads in comics back in the day.
I should probably check X-O out too. Something about Valiant comics always seemed trashy to me when I was younger but I think they're due a reassessment.

The Iron Man/X-O Manowar game was pretty cool back when it came out. My brother and I would play it a lot. I haven't read any of the comics until last week when the first issue of the Valiant relaunch hit with X-O Manowar #1. It's not too bad. Basically you have a group of people at war with the Roman Empire, and aliens come and kidnap some of them. There is a suit of armor on the alien ship that they are on, and it looks like the main guy Aric will end up wearing it to become X-O Manowar. I can't remember the name of his people, but it's an interesting storyline. If it's solid I'll look up the older series.

The game looks decent in a nostalgic, side scrolling, sort of way.
I was always more of a Captain America And The Avengers guy, myself:

If you've just tuned in and can't be arsed going back a page, today's character is X-O Manowar!

I wish they could make that game available for download for the 3DS. :csad:

Flash Gordon

I remember him quite fondly from that 80's movie with Sam Jones & Timothy Dalton as Prince Baron. I've never read any of his comics & just watched a few episodes of Defenders Of the Earth which featured Flash Gordon, but I enjoy his exploits from what I've managed to watch.

I dunno, I'm not his biggest fan or anything but you have to give points to any hero whose theme tune automatically makes any situation you find yourself in about a hundred times more aweome!

I actually have the movie on blu ray & the song is great.

Yeah, cool song. never really got the movie. It was a little bit before my time and I've always thought there was something grubby and off-putting about it. Have no idea what, though...

My only exposure to anything Flash Gordon related was getting stoned and listening to the album in college.

So, he's awesome.

okay 1st i love ^%((^% flash Gordon!! that 70's cartoon was no joke! they had thun the lion man and you havent fell in love with a cartoon till you seen this

I loved what I read.

Great concept. Guy becomes a werewolf, then decides to become Batman. :o

The book started out very strongly, but turned incredibly cliche.

As for Gary's personality, it was pretty bland. No character traits really stuck out.

Alex Raymond helped define the look of Scifi in movies and comics for generations

Lucas and everything that Star Wars spawned walks in the tremendous shadow of Flash Gordon and the universe of Mongo.

The Filmation Flash Gordon cartoon began as an edited down version of the awesome movie:

It only aired once on TV, and has never been released on DVD. If you haven't seen it you need to check it out.
The 80's Dino De Laurentiis movie was partially inspired by this Animated TV movie.

The recently launched Flash Gordon comic by Dynamite, borrows heavily from Fimation's Animated TV movie

If you are a Flash Gordon fan this is an excellent book, I definitely recommend it. It homages all incarnations, from Raymond to Filmation to the De Laurentiis version and makes it all new.

I like the idea, and thank Odin that the premise and character are as different to my story as it is, or else I'd have cursed the name of Kirkman forever and a day.

No Dan Dare love, eh? Fair enough.

Keeping with the loose 'Pulp Heroes' theme, let's try:

Buck Rogers

Buck Rogers is a bit similar to Flash Gordon for me at least. The only exposure I got from him were reruns of Buck Rogers in the 25th Century tv show with Gil Gerard. Anyhow, he's alright.
