State your opinion a character

Awful. Just awful. Shame she's in the movie instead of a better character.

Frank Miller did a great job on changing DareDevil from another plain superhero to a ninja, and did his best comic run on DareDevil in the 80s before Denny O'Neil taking a hold of the character

His first Daredevil was by far his best work, but his redesign of Black Widow's costume and look was crap.

To be fair, I only really know her from Brubaker's Cap run but yeah, she's okay.

(Pym shoulda taken her spot in the movie, though...even if it did make things a sausage-fest!)

Would've been easily offset if they'd included Wasp as well, what with her also being a founder and all. The cartoon got it right. Why can't the movie? :o

Totally! I mean, you could argue that the cartoon had more time to tell the story than the movie will but screw being practical! I want Hank and Jan dagnabbit!

"Hey guys, we're the only two new characters in this movie, but I'm sure we won't have time to be developed amid the action that will fill this movie."

They could have just had the Pyms instead of Hawkeye and Black Widow. I mean, it would be two new characters with the same limited amount of development time either way.

Exactly. As much as people love Hawkeye (and to a lesser extent Black Widow), I think most folks would prefer Hank and Janet to have taken their place.

Kind of my point there.

Honestly, I think "most people" don't care either way. But a majority of the fans would probably want the real founders instead of Hawkeye and Black Widow.

Not a huge deal, though. Hawkeye and Black Widow are still cool.

Even though a dude shrinking to microscopic size and growing to the size of a skyscraper totally trumps them in every way.

That's what I meant. Should've said "Most fans". :)

Difference being with Hank and Jan they'd have to take screentime to explain why they have their powers. With Hawkeye and Black Widow they have no powers so it's not necessary at all. They require almost zero screen time to explain so they can be fit in much easier.
And myself I've always thought Wasp was dumb.

As for me, I like regular BW but I also like the way they went with her in the Ult U. Having her betray them makes sense given the character's background.

Honestly, you coulda had Hank and Jan there studying the hammer in Thor and you could swipe something from the Ultimates for like a 5 minute scene in Avengers where Hank does the Giant Man experiment.

Haha, that's ridiculous. How much screen time does it take to "explain" that Ant-Man can shrink and communicate with insects and the Wasp can turn into a tiny humanoid wasp? Pretty much exactly as long as it takes for the characters to be identified by name and for them to actually use their powers. I know the general audience is dumb, but come on, give them some credit.

Plus, if you don't think the introductions of the characters are already going to include some brief explanation of what they can do for those who missed their individual movies, you're in for a surprise. Hell, they basically showed you the Hulk's in the trailer. Tony literally blurts out his powers at the end.

Oh Corp, you know people need every detail to be explained. I mean, next you'll be expecting people to get that Lex Luthor is just bald without them dedicating screentime to it.

Lex: For you see, Superman, I once had a full head of fiery red hair. But childhood-onset alopecia cruelly robbed me of my lustrous locks, leaving me to the tender mercies of every bully I encountered during my schooling.
Superman: Um... what does that have to do with anything?
Lex: Er... HA! You see, you're too stupid to comprehend my brilliant intellect!

The X-Men first class thing is a false comparison because mutants all share one single origin so explained once and it's done forever. And it's true they could have fast tracked the origins of both of them but they want to make it for audiences that have never seen the characters before, and having in the first 30 seconds both characters show up and saying "Hey I have this power" "and I have this one!" "oh yeah, how do you two have them?" "..... SCIENCE!" would be a ripoff to viewers who've never heard of them before.

Yeah, except Iron Man and the Hulk have both had TWO movies explaining their powers and both had their origins take up a good chunk of their first movies. So your comparison does not work at all.
