'ello gov'nor..fancy an alien??
That scene was about the only good thing in that movie.
Someone made my movie, Representation? I'm suing!Sounds like a movie I just bought..mmmmt:
There are billions of galaxies in the universe, smart manNo, I'm basing my opinion on how the universe is structured. Science backs it up. Almost any other place in the galaxy is highly unsuitable for life. Black holes, dwarf stars don't provide enough heat to sustain life. If the Earth were anywhere else even in the milky way it would be absorbed by a black hole or struck by asteroids.
Hawking thought he could beat Data at poker.
I agree with this part. He's judging any possible intelligent life out there based on how we behave. A more advanced civilization would most likely be beyond that kind of behavior.Beyond that, I find Hawkings' line of thinking to be off. "Nomads looking for conquest and conquer." He is making the vital flaw of assuming their culture would be like ours. For all we know, conquest is an entirely foreign concept to ETs. I mean, to write off a species that could master intergalactic travel as "nomads," is a bit naive.
can you not handle an alien species that is not in a "humanoid" or "animal" form??

Now, I don't want to dismiss aliens being hostile entirely, because that would be silly, but think about this hard: If Aliens are advanced enough to build the kinds of Space-zipping tech we dream off, what would they need a bunch of water, Gold, or trees for? Space travel would require a level of comfort that does not go in hand with being able to skip from Wherever in the galaxy to here.
Of course, the Columbus analogy is very possible, but again, it requires a lot of assuming. That E.T.s would have a USE for us, or our resources. Would you travel from the north pole to South American mountains just to find snow? It's assuming E.T.s have similar behavioral patterns to us. And that's a pretty big leap. This guys' behavior would have been formed by an entirely different set of circumstances. In fact, if anything, E.T. behavior would probably look pretty random to us. Maybe( and probably) they have different ethical systems. Maybe they're ants: able to do some outstanding technical feats, while still being just animals.
Contacting Extraterrestrial life is a gamble, with the higher odds on "nothing happens". If they are a lot like us, they will probably want to know what out deal is before just attacking. I've always wondered, though, if Hostile species HAD found us already, why would they act in secrecy. If they could just beat us up and take our lunch money, I see no real reason to keep it quiet. Maybe they know about Randy Quaid.
The logic here is tragically flawed. It assumes a complete working knowledge of conditions necessary to support life when all we know (and all we have ever known) is what conditions we have adapted to on this planet. We have yet to even come up with a good general definition for "life."No, I'm basing my opinion on how the universe is structured. Science backs it up. Almost any other place in the galaxy is highly unsuitable for life. Black holes, dwarf stars don't provide enough heat to sustain life. If the Earth were anywhere else even in the milky way it would be absorbed by a black hole or struck by asteroids.

Oh my god. Aliens could just be huge breast implants? And for your information, in the absence of Oxygen, Silicon forms bonds much the same way Carbon does. The properties of its valence shell (4 valence electrons) are similar to those of the valence shell of Carbon. Typically, Silicon's strong affinity for Oxygen prevents it from bonding in such a fashion.
That's silicone.Oh my god. Aliens could just be huge breast implants?
**** yes.

Maybe they're HUMANS: able to do some outstanding technical feats, while still being just animals.
