Stephen King's Epic "The Dark Tower" - Part 2

There's also the Maze Runner films.

Are there any legitimate scifi apocalyptic fantasy films?

What's with the RT consensus comment?

"Go then, there are other Stephen King adaptations than these."

Typos/Russian Hackers/drunk?

It doesn't come off as overly negative. I will go then. Tuesday.

You don't think a consensus telling you to basically avoid this and watch another Stephen King adaptation is negative? Does the 19% not tell you to avoid it? I love The Dark Tower books... so I'm not wasting my money on a clearly awful adaptation.

It's a modification of the quote from The Gunslinger, the first book in The Dark Tower series - "Go then, there are other worlds than these".

The problem is, 'post-apocalyptic' tends to suggest that all the stuff that makes a movie sci-fi has probably been destroyed. That's why movies like this will be few and far between. It's something of a mild oxymoron.

So I liked it well enough.... it obviously doesn't even scrape the surface of the books but... I'll take it as what it is. Idris and Matthew saves the whole movie. The kid who acts as Jake is good too. And the hot korean woman who was in Age of Ultron is good too. I doubt there'll be a sequel but hope this continues on TV like Mortal Instruments or something

The people that haven't read the books won't understand that consensus. "Go then." will read like RT.com is telling people to go watch the film. And the "There are other Stephen King adaptations..." will come across like a random statement rather than a critical consensus of the film.

The books that its based on is not that popular to the youngsters these days

Should have been a tv series like American Gods

Deadline reports The Dark Tower won't even gross 19 million:

http://deadline.com/2017/08/the-dark-tower-detroit-kidnap-dunkirk-weekend-box-office-opening-1202142448/

EDIT: Deadline have updated their prediction now to 19.6 million.

Oh discordia.

Deadline expects this movie to grow on Saturday, but it appears to be very frontloaded. It's dropping like a brick on Movietickets.com (the same thing happened to Emoji movie a week ago). Last night it was at 15.2%, now it's on the second place with 11.5%. Dunkirk is on the first place with 16.6%.

People clapped at the end of my showing. I just shook my head. The only thing I enjoyed about the movie was Roland. Not his obsession with the MIB though.

You know the biggest shame of all of this?
The movie could have actually worked.

https://www.reddit.com/r/TheDarkTower/comments/4x1egu/do_you_guys_have_the_script/

On this here reddit page is an early script for the film. It essentially fills the same purpose that this... THING that's currently in theaters fills. A sequel to the book series that takes elements from different books to fit a new adventure in the new timeline.

Except there's a few key differences.
1: No serious continuity issues with Roland's backstory, like Walter killing his father.
2: The Horn of Eld being in Roland's possession is something addressed, making it clear that it actually IS a sequel.
2: The Crimson King isn't just relegated to references in f***ing graffiti. He's an omnipresent threat, addressed by Walter O'Dim and his followers. Hell, he even makes a cameo at the end!
4: Most importantly of all, the overall feel of the story is about Roland's journey. He's not relegated to a secondary character to prop up Jake as the main character (SERIOUSLY SONY, WHAT THE FLYING F*** WERE YOU THINKING?!), and his character arc is of redemption and finding his purpose again after years of looking for simply revenge.

If they had made THIS into a movie, a two-hour fleshed out movie, then perhaps we would have something to be happy about.

Saw it with my dad tonight. We didn’t think it was terrible. We didn’t think it was great, either.

I haven’t read the books, I think they’re the only Stephen King books I’ve never been able to get into. My dad loves them. I think he was relieved it wasn’t the train wreck he was afraid it would be, but he thought it deserved so much more. Idris Elba was the best part of the whole thing.

I enjoyed the Stephen King easter eggs as well, those were fun.

I haven't read the books and I understood it fine. It's pretty clear what that means right next to the super low score.

That's one thing I never cared for about the books either. I thought the Crimson King was massively underutilized.

This should've been a tv show all along. Bring on the show, make it unconnected to this movie .

It's a great storyline.

BOM's weekend estimates have it at $19.5 million. However, the budget for this one was only $60 million.
