My whole family is excited for this. The original is basically our family movie, my sister and my cousins always quote it.
We have high hopes for this one, but I still think Curry's performance will be nearly impossible to top. That's one of my all time favorite performances in a film.
I'm liking what I'm seeing though with this popcorn clip. I wasn't sold on Skarsgard's voice at first, but I'm coming around to it. The original had a lot of room to improve, the highlight was clearly Curry. This looks to be quality all around.
The full scene was put up online, but I think it's been taken down. Watching it, I'm thinking this might be the superior version of the sewer encounter. There is a sense of momentum that I think was missing with the Curry version. I'll put this in spoilers for anyone not wanting to be spoiled
SPOILERS
As was noted in the description leaked earlier, there's a moment where Pennywise abruptly stops laughing, and just stares blankly at Georgie. It's almost as if Pennywise momentarily reverts back into being an animal, as when he first appears, you can hear an almost animal like growl. But we also see It's sense of manipulation. Georgie tells Pennywise Bill would kill him if he lost the boat. Pennywise later repeats this back to Georgie when Georgie is getting ready to leave. Not "I'll kill you", but "Bill will kill you". Which is why Georgie agrees to reach for the balloon.
I think that's what Skarsgard brings to the role. A sense of dread. It's not played for scares. You feel like you're not watching a monster, but a child predator. It feels less like Nightmare on Elm Street, and more like Mystic River, when the boy is taken by the two men. He realizes once he's inside the car that these men aren't who they say they are. And its gut churning because of it. I'm hoping the movie really sells that sense of horror.
If this project ever gets off the ground, I'd actually like to see what he could do as The Crow.Bill Skarsgard would make a good Joker.
Deadline says that IT is on track to hit $50 million on opening weekend.

That would make it the highest opening September film on record, beating out Hotel Transylvania 2's $48 million o.w. take.

Really curious to know how long before a Part 2 is made official and the roles are cast.
Muschietti said he's already signed on for a second film, and that they're planning on filming the sequel this spring. Not to mention that WB has already claimed September 7, 2018 for Untitled New Line Horror Film, which is very likely It: Part 2.
With the positive buzz on the film this early out, I wouldn't be surprised if they have a writer working on the sequel. And they'll probably start casting a month after.
So with an OW like that I'd say the sequel with the adults is all but guaranteed, no?
I'm stoked we have an R rated horror hit coming out. I'm glad that the slew of water downed PG-13 horror movies are going away.
