Stephen King's "IT" remake has found a writer - Part 2

Just saw the whole Pennywise/Georgie scene. All I can say is......WOW. Chilling. I was mesmerized by Skarsgard's Pennywise.

My whole family is excited for this. The original is basically our family movie, my sister and my cousins always quote it.

We have high hopes for this one, but I still think Curry's performance will be nearly impossible to top. That's one of my all time favorite performances in a film.

I'm liking what I'm seeing though with this popcorn clip. I wasn't sold on Skarsgard's voice at first, but I'm coming around to it. The original had a lot of room to improve, the highlight was clearly Curry. This looks to be quality all around.

Really curious to know how long before a Part 2 is made official and the roles are cast.

Yeah, I think this is much more effective than the miniseries was. Obviously the show is outdated as crazy, but also the direction here is more to my liking.

Curry was great, but that version of the character always seemed like a serial killer clown with superpowers, this version seems like something pretending to be a clown. There's much more nuance to the performance than I ever hoped for, he seems like something very animalistic and he's obviously ready for the kill, slightly running out of patience, and god that moment when he knows he's got Georgie. Haunting.

The miniseries completely collapsed when the adult portion started, so I certainly hope they hire top talent for part 2.

The footage is pretty damn good.

Normally I'd be reluctant to make a comparison to Heath Ledger's Joker, but it reminded me of when people would hold up Jack Nicholson to this gold standard. Then you'd see Ledger's performance and go back and watch Nicholson, and wonder why everyone thought Nicholson would never be topped. While Curry's performance is iconic, just comparing it to the clip from the new movie, I'm thinking Skarsgard might be the new gold standard. Honestly, he's much scarier in the scene than Curry is.

Part of it is the direction, and the build up. Going back and watching the Curry scene, it's not bad, but there are some odd choices. Georgie isn't at all captivated by Pennywise, for example, and there's no sense of tension. The bad film score oversells the creepiness. The Skarsgard scene, on the other hand, slowly builds tension, while at the same time gives us a Georgie that is more guarded. When Pennywise briefly drops the act, Georgie notices the sudden shift, and is caught of guard. It's like watching a kid realize too late that the man in the van who seems friendly maybe has ulterior motives.

I think that's what Skarsgard brings to the role. A sense of dread. It's not played for scares. You feel like you're not watching a monster, but a child predator. It feels less like Nightmare on Elm Street, and more like Mystic River, when the boy is taken by the two men. He realizes once he's inside the car that these men aren't who they say they are. And its gut churning because of it. I'm hoping the movie really sells that sense of horror.

Folks, stop asking for PMs of bootleg footage here.

The full scene was put up online, but I think it's been taken down. Watching it, I'm thinking this might be the superior version of the sewer encounter. There is a sense of momentum that I think was missing with the Curry version. I'll put this in spoilers for anyone not wanting to be spoiled

SPOILERS

As was noted in the description leaked earlier, there's a moment where Pennywise abruptly stops laughing, and just stares blankly at Georgie. It's almost as if Pennywise momentarily reverts back into being an animal, as when he first appears, you can hear an almost animal like growl. But we also see It's sense of manipulation. Georgie tells Pennywise Bill would kill him if he lost the boat. Pennywise later repeats this back to Georgie when Georgie is getting ready to leave. Not "I'll kill you", but "Bill will kill you". Which is why Georgie agrees to reach for the balloon.

Yes, I got the impression from that scene that Pennywise was just barely holding on to that *funny* clown routine. He was almost like a junkie who needing a fix. I can imagine he only gets stronger the more he feeds. :wow:

I actually get the complete opposite from it. Tim Curry played it like a killer clown. Skarsgard plays like it something that is disguised as a clown.

I love popcorn too Georgie.

Deadline says that IT is on track to hit $50 million on opening weekend.

http://deadline.com/2017/08/annabelle-creation-dark-tower-dunkirk-1202147007/

That would make it the highest opening September film on record, beating out Hotel Transylvania 2's $48 million o.w. take.

That's amazing considering the movie is still almost a month away. If the movie is tracking at 50 million on OW at this point of time, I imagine the 4 mins exclusive footage and positive reviews (??) along with more stellar marketing will propel the movie to further heights. The OW will be one to watch out for.

Muschietti said he's already signed on for a second film, and that they're planning on filming the sequel this spring. Not to mention that WB has already claimed September 7, 2018 for Untitled New Line Horror Film, which is very likely It: Part 2.

With the positive buzz on the film this early out, I wouldn't be surprised if they have a writer working on the sequel. And they'll probably start casting a month after.

So with an OW like that I'd say the sequel with the adults is all but guaranteed, no?

The opening is gonna break records no doubt. I'm SO happy this is R rated to keep the obnoxious pre teens away.
But I am fully expecting parents to bring thier kids into this. Which is why I REALLY hope Georgie getting his arm ripped off is as violent as possible, just as a statement :oldrazz:

I think a sequel is coming but they will most likely follow the same kind of schedule like the first film. So I think scripting will start this fall, pre-production and casting will begin in February or March 2018, then a 4 month summer shoot, after that any reshooting will start in the fall with post-production after that.

I'm expecting IT Part 2 to be released September 6, 2019.

I'd say it's guaranteed as of now with the tracking it's doing. But yes 50m opening weekend would be a tremendous thing for this film, which only has a budget of 30 mil. Warner Bro's are salivating.

I'm stoked we have an R rated horror hit coming out. I'm glad that the slew of water downed PG-13 horror movies are going away.

Me too. All Hollywood needed was proof that these films can make just as much bank as pg-13 films. We can probably thank Deadpool for that

im gonna go far and say its actually gonna make 90 million opening weekend.

I'm thinking between $55 - 60 million opening weekend. $165 - 180 million for its domestic box office run.

Looks like I missed out on some footage. Damn.
