Stephen King's Epic "The Dark Tower" - Part 2

It's in its final season. The best season is season one period. Went downhill after Darabont left.

If they had kept him it would be one of the best shows of all time.

LOL, slow your roll there. Darabont or not, I don’t think the material was ever strong enough to put the show in Best of All Time territory. And I say that as someone who has read the comics.

Gotta disagree. From what I read up to anyway, the comics were excellent and combined with the quality of season one and Darabont's own added ideas, I stand by it. He got the material and is a brilliant director in his own right.

I wonder how different it would have been had HBO produced the show instead.

Yeah that's the death knell for so many shows. 5 seasons maaaaybe 6 is a good run for most serialized shows. Even sitcoms. After that they usually run out of story, just keep repeating the same things, etc.

I recall this started happening with Burn Notice.

Flanagan could pull it off. For as circuitous and epic as the story is, it is ultimately about a small group of people going on a singular journey. And Flanagan specializes in that kind of intimate and humanistic storytelling.

I hope it happens. There haven’t been any announcements but… the fact that he keeps talking about it makes me think that maybe something is in the works? I really, REALLY hope so.

I haven't watched much Flanagan stuff to be honest but hearing how other people talk about him I would be perfectly fine if he took this on. A proper Dark Tower adaptation is well overdue.

I would be a little worried if Netflix moves forward with it. They clearly have a great relationship with Flanagan but they are being wishy washy on Sandman so I would be worried that they might cancel a Dark Tower series if the numbers aren’t absolutely amazing. Prime is probably a no-go too since they already passed on an adaptation. Maybe Paramount? They adapted The Stand (it wasn’t good, but they might be up for more King adaptations). HBO would be the dream, but I don’t know if they would go for it either with Zaslav there. Maybe if it was somehow available as an NFT lol.

Yeah, I'd be worried about getting a season two with Netflix, and that's when the story really starts getting good.

Yeah, right now, I’m hoping for a Paramount/Flanagan pairing. They’ve proven that they aren’t afraid to take big swings on big budget content (Halo, Star Trek, The Stand).

So… does Amazon still have those Dark Tower rights?

I’m gonna need ya’ll to stop bumping this thread and getting my hopes up until we get an ACTUAL announcement. Already had my gunslinger heart broken twice by failed adaptations of this saga. I can’t take much more abuse lol.

That said… Flanagan and Amazon working together is an interesting development. I guess(?) they still have the rights to TDT but maybe they lapsed when Amazon passed on the series.

Mike Flanagan & Trevor Macy On ‘The Dark Tower’ & Leaving Netflix – Deadline

This is a pivotal moment for Mike Flanagan and Trevor Macy’s Intrepid Pictures, which the duo launched in 2004. After six years creating and producing for Netflix, including the last four under an overall deal, the duo behind The Haunting TV franchise and Midnight Mass are moving to Amazon Studios. Additionally, they are taking on their most ambitious project to date: a screen adaptation of Stephen King’s The Dark Tower, which creator Flanagan envisions as a TV series to run for five seasons, followed by two stand-alone features.
