Steven Soderbergh's Haywire

Yeah it isn't her. Some guy posted it in the comment section of Collider and it turns out it's someone entirely different. Although she does have a resemblance to Carano.

Either way she's fine.

thats someone else aswell lol

thats kyra gracie

As much as I adore Gina (her MMA career not so much), I think she's a bad Wonder Woman pick.

disagree while her acting is up in the air

she is 29
brunette
beautiful woman
has a strong mature look she does'nt look like a girl
5'8
great build for WW she has a very strong muscled physique
does'nt look out of place fighting on screen

WB won't sign her for a 85-100 million dollar Summer Blockbuster with the hopes of the Justice League film riding on her shoulders based on 'unknown' acting abilities.

^the only gracie i like is renzo because he actually has a personality

you must love ronda rousey if you are a judoka

Rousey is a f** king badass. So is Hawn and Lombard. They're powerful and explosive Judokas.

I admire Dave Camarillo, Gokor and LeBell for today's standards.

I've grown to HATE Rickson, Ralph and Royce the most. The s**t that pours out of their mouth is astonishing. For instance, they still deny that Helio never lost to Master Kimura. For God's sake, Helio received a concussion and a separated shoulder.

I saw HAYWIRE last night. It's a lot of fun. And, also kind of an oxymoron, the arty exploitation film.

First off, Carano is a Schwarzenegger level actor. She'd be out of place in a film that called for a lot of dialogue, but Haywire keeps her dialogue fairly brief and to the point. But, like Schwarzenegger, she's a true physical presence and asskicker in the film.

The action is great. It's like Bourne, but without the shakey cam so that you can see everything that's going on. It's refreshing and fun. Plus, I'd be willing to bet that the punches are turned up higher than the gunshots in the sound mix.

I think Soderbergh is having fun and making a statement on the power of the B-movie action star at the same time. The only person Carano knows she can trust is her father, played by Bill Paxton. On the other side, are some of great, acclaimed, pretty boy actors of the world in the forms of Michael Fassbender, Ewan McGregor, and Antonio Banderas. And Carano gets to wipe the floor with them.

There are some nits to be picked. I don't think it's completely satisfying as an art film or as an exploitation film, but it's its own weird little beast. It doesn't really build to a cathartic climax. And the pace kind of sags near the end. But, all the same, I'd certainly recommend it.

Glad to see it's received pretty good word of mouth. Definitely have to check this out.

Totally forgot Bill Paxton was in this, I fancied it anyway but now I will have to see it!

WB signed Noomi Rapace for Sherlock Holmes 2, right after the movie Millennium Trilogy became a worldwide sensation. She played second fiddle to RDJ and Jude Law, but still-- anything's possible.

If Haywire becomes a sleeper hit, WB would be foolish not to look at Gina Carrano as a lead to revive their WW project. I wouldn't pick Nicolas Refn to direct, though.

And it's not like that movie was really riding on Noomi's shoulders anyway. She hardly did anything in it, really. As much as I love Guy Ritchie movies, I've yet to see one with a memorable female character.

WB would be foolish to look at Gina Carrano as a lead in any kind of blockbuster that calls for a modicum of acting after Haywire. Haywire relies on Carrano's ability to fight, not her ability to act.

Now, acting can be taught, but Carrano needs to get a lot better, and show herself in another context, before she's any sort of candidate for WW. Soderbergh essentially "actor proofed" Haywire. There's a plot, but no real arc. It's a film that has a lot in common with something like Commando.

Nobody really doubts Rapace's ability to act.

That is true, but I'm not sure Noomi is going to be the next big thing in Hollywood. That's not to say that she has to be, but they seem to want to make her into a #1 leading lady. Aside from the people who have seen the "Girl With..." movies, I'm not sure that many mainstream moviegoers are all that familiar with her. I doubt Sherlock Holmes 2 did much to change that.

If Prometheus is a hit, her career could blow up big time, but if it isn't, then she might fall into relative obscurity after a while.

i dont think they are trying to make her a leading lady. she got some attention from Dragon tattoo girl and she has a unique face. the most important part is that she is MEGA cheap for the studio.

For now.

But if Prometheus is a hit and she stars in Ridley Scotts next little project then her price tag will go up considerably.

That's... a nice way of putting it. :cwink:

I think that she has average looks myself. And I thought that her performance in Dragon Tattoo was 2D.

WHHHAAAAAAATTTTT????!!! YOU MEAN YOU DIDN'T THINK IT WAS TEH GREATESTEST MOST BADASSOMEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTRESS IN ANY MOVIE EVER IN THE HISTORY OF THE WORLD?!!! :woot:

Seriously, as a fan of the books, I really didn't feel like she nailed Lisbeth Salander the way everyone else said she did. Maybe it was just because she looked too old and ripped. I thought she was okay but I found her a bit one-note too.

not surprised this got good reviews

it is soderbergh for god sakes

it takes simple concepts and adds his own flavor to it

I thought this was the haywire thread? I think the wonder woman talk should go to that thread.

Anyway, I may go see this tomorrow. Carano looks good in the role.
