Steven Spielberg Teams with Stephen King for Under the Dome

Teen dialogue on network television is always going to be flawed on the basis that there are only so many curse words you can get away with. I mean, that kind of goes for everyone over the age of 10, but still.

The first four season of Lost took place 108 days (excluding the flashforwards). Season 4's 14(?) episodes took place in a week. So if they do follow that format it could work. Hopefully they do follow that format. If this thing does go about four seasons, average of one and a half days per episode with 13 episodes per seasons it would be 78 days under the dome.

I don't think an eppy even spans that amount of time. At some point in eppy 3, one of the characters ( a teen, I just can't remember which one) said, "It's been a day and a half" since the dome came down. It appeared late in the evening at the end of the show, so that was only day 2. At this rate, the entire season will take place in a week or less.

I'm surprised they make a joke about Barbie's name each time. It's not exactly an unheard of name for a dude. Klaus Barbie? Scary as hell Nazi?

That's not completely a bad thing since this is an adaptation of King characters. In reality, there are people who use little or no profanity for various reasons, but in SK's mind, everyone curses like a drunken sailor. He tends to go way overboard with the profanity, so it loses its impact after awhile.

I find it kind of refreshing, given how... verbally repressed TV, and even movies are nowadays.

That's the great thing about books, it's the least censored media.

He does, but I always find it unrealistic to believe in a world where no one ever once utters the F-word.

I'm with you on that one. Junior seems like the kind of guy who would use it in practically every sentence.

Junior just really, really doesn't seem like SK-brand crazy. He seems like a CSI killer of the week who broke his girlfriends neck when she said he had a small penis. I mean, I get that this is CBS, but at least upgrade hin to Criminal Minds-status. :o

Granted, I'm biased, but Junior mirrors Eddie Brock so far: his father views him as a disappointment, he's spurned by the woman he loves, he has his own personal scapegoat-enemy, yet he's trying to do a few noble things in his own twisted way.

It's been a few years since I read UTD, but I remember disliking Junior instantly when I did. It seems like this version is taking a slow burn approach to his villainy.

Junior in the book is much more deranged and definitely Sk's brand of crazy. Also, [blackout]the reason for his insanity is so well planted in the book. One of my favorite things about Kings style is his 3rd person revealing of info or foreshadowing that makes me need to continue[/blackout].

I dunno, sounded about right to me. People at that age (or at least, the implied age) are rather insufferable.

Then again, being in my late 20's, I may be more like a middle aged dude than a teenager.

Note I still say "dude". Damned 90's.

Dude I know what ya mean.:p

Dude will be a fixture in my vocabulary till the day I die.

I could be wrong but in that book can you not communicate through the wall to people standing on the other side. I do like how in the show their is no talking through the wall and the people standing on the other side don't even acknowledge them. Having not read the book what are some other subtle differences?

:lmao:

I totally agree. But for some strange reason, I kind of like that he's such a candyass. It makes it kind of funny. It's amusing that no one is even remotely intimidated by the psychopath, meanwhile his used car salesman dad is attempting to run the town with an iron fist.

I remember rolling my eyes when one of the girls used a slang term for something that was CLEARLY made up by a middle-aged man thinking he had a knack for modern teen dialogue. I can't remember what it was, but it was bad.

I'm watching the episode right now and I think I know the exact word you were remembering lol. One of the teenaged girls referred to mini Sam winchesters generator as a genny.

oh great, give punkass Junior a lawman's badge and a legal reason to carry a gun now...

yeah, THAT'LL work to restore law and order in the dome... :whatever:

Gotta give kudos to the psycho for holding down the fort while dad was away. Damn it Sheriff! I said kudos! Not a badge & a gun!

When Joey & what'shername tested out their seizure theory. That was some creepy **** when they re-watched the video.

Wait, so the reporter's husband was in debt to a bookie and was looking for a hit man? Oh ****, he was going to hire someone to kill his wife for the life insurance, wasn't he? :wow:

About the last scene. Finally, it looks like the weakest, silliest part of the series will come to end. :highfive:

Or the dad is just as crazy as Junior & he joins in on the kidnapping. As I doubt he would want that town to know that his son is a nut case

Genny is a very common shorthand term for generator....

The shows really starting to come into its own, which is great to see. Really liked this weeks episode. It'll be interesting to see how big Jim handles this junior situation.

To me the show is kinda slipping every week. I still like it, but none of the characters are particularly likable and some of the storylines are getting boring.
But I am happy that the Junior story might end next week...although as someone said earlier I wouldnt be surprised if Big Jim tries to cover it up

I thought this one was the best since the first episode.
