I bet this is on the fast track. If they were after Nolan, you know WB is serious. And now scoring Spielberg is even bigger. We'll see this movie in 2016 or 2017. They want that Hunger Games / Divergent crowd.

Plus, WB won't have any franchise material other than Justice League, so they'll be all over this.

Properties WB can use off the top of my head;

Godzilla
DC comics characters (I'd love to see Amell in this)
The '300' mythos.
The Matrix
Lego
Sherlock Holmes
Looney Tunes
Blade Runner
Scooby Doo
Harry Potter
Middle Earth

I'm also starving for a tentpole that's NOT a comic book movie. That's why I think Mad Max is getting the love it's getting; people want variety even when they won't admit it.

No I love superhero movies too but it's like eating ice cream everyday. It becomes less special.

So true, that's also why 'Guardians of the Galaxy' was such a nice surprise. Even though based on a Marvel comic book, it was quite different. And 'Mad Max: Fury Road' surprisingly and ironically (it's a damn reboot of a 1980's franchise) looks like something very fresh and exciting, and they didn't even pu**y out on it, it's going to be an R-rated big budget action pic. SO freaking excited.

And Steven Spielberg directing this is great news!

Ehh. Lego is the only one with a real future in films, in my opinion.

Godzilla, 300 and DC are also all getting films out within the next few years...

I thought you meant the CW by the mention on Amell.

But yeah, WB is going to kill it with DC next year.

I figured getting Amell would be a good way to keep the DCCU guys on their own thing without having to confuse audiences.

The plot sounds like the American version of Sword Art Online.

Given the material, Spielberg is a better fit than Nolan. So color me happy.

Yeah, the rumors of Nolan's involvement never made a lick of sense to me.

Anyone read the book and know anything about the characters? I'm trying to get a feel as to which actors might join, maybe I should just read the book.

I was in the comic book store downtown today, and the two dudes behind the counter were talking about this. One was like, "don't know if Spielberg is a good or bad thing" and then other just went off on a rundown of all of Spielberg's flicks. It was hilarious just hearing them be extreme nerds.

Eh, could this possibly be the one film that makes me love Spielberg again?

I hope so.

Steven Spielberg’s ‘Ready Player One’ Slotted For December 15, 2017 Berth By Warner Bros

BREAKING: From Robopocalypse to Harvey and numerous others, Steven Spielberg has been known to latch on to a movie and then change his mind. But it’s official, he’s making Ready Player One, the science fiction adventure. Warner Bros. Pictures, Village Roadshow Pictures and DreamWorks have announced they’ve dated the film for release on December 15, 2017, with the obligatory gushy quotes. The film is an adaptation of the Ernest Cline novel and marks Spielberg’s return to the sci-fi terrain he patrolled in films like Minority Report and A.I. This has got to make happy DreamWorks’ backers in India, as Reliance has waited for him to do a film with blockbuster potential. The film is being produced by Spielberg; Donald De Line, Dan Farah and Spielberg’s longtime colleague Kristie Macosko Krieger. VRP’s Bruce Berman is executive producer.

“Any film from Steven Spielberg is an event film, so it felt right to date this thrilling new project from one of our greatest filmmakers for the holiday season,” said Warner Bros domestic distribution head Dan Fellman, who’ll be out of the studio in retirement but has said he’ll return to work on some pictures. Said Sue Kroll: “From the success of the book, ‘Ready Player One’ already has a devoted following, and we’re excited for its fans and moviegoers everywhere to see this fantastically innovative story come to life. We know it couldn’t be in better hands, and look forward to working with Steven and the producers to bring it to the big screen.”

It's odd Spielberg would do this. I figured he's more comfortable with stuff geared towards my grandparents these days.

Just finished the book. Awesome stuff, and if Ernest Cline's other stuff is anywhere near as good then he'll probably be one of my new favorite authors. And I have 95% faith that Spielberg will be able to pull this off (I've been waiting forever for him to do another movie like this).

From what I'm hearing his second one Armada isn't as good, but I haven't heard anything overly negative about it. He's contributed a couple of shorts to Robot Uprisings and Press Start to Play too.

I read an excerpt from his book that was attached to my copy of RP1 and I liked it personally.

I'm excited to see the Mighty Beard take on a concept like this, it's been too long.
