Steven Spielberg's "Ready Player One"

Nice to get some more casting news. I can totally see Mendelsohn as Sorrento.

This is a great book I listened to the audiobook which was read by will weaton and it took me two days to finish. But I hope they get mostly unknown actor's for the roles

This is probably going to move soon. Star Wars comes out the same day now.

Yeah, they're gonna blink. Probably November if nothing is there.

Justice League's in November so definitely not there too.

They could also move it up a few weeks to the beginning of December. It's not ideal, but it gives it a little bit of breathing room between Justice League and Star Wars. Still, they might push it back instead of moving it forward. 2018 is getting a little crowded as is, but there's nothing slated for April. It's a rare month for blockbusters, but it worked okay for Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

April 2018 could be the best option. Boy, tentpole schedules are crowded these days...

I think it's going to calm down in four years once Star Wars Episode IX, Infinity War Part 2, and Justice League Part 2 have all come and gone. I mean, it has to calm down eventually, right?

Nope. That's only because they are big and we know about them. There was a time when leading up to The Avengers and TDKR that they were the hugest deals in the world and it was hard to imagine where go from there after such things.

You are partly right but this looks like the perfect storm. No one can possibly be ready.

“Ready, Player, One,” the director’s adaptation of Ernest Cline’s best-selling fantasy novel, will move to March 30, 2018, which allows the film to steer clear of “Star Wars: Episode VIII.” Last month, Disney announced it was shifting the Star Wars sequel from May 2017 to Dec. 15, the same date as “Ready, Player, One.”
The Warner Bros. release may have blinked, but insiders insist its not running scared. The new date coincides with Easter and there are no major movies scheduled to open in April 2018, save for an animated film from Laika, giving “Ready, Player, One,” a wide berth.

It’s a sign of just how monumental a phenomenon Star Wars has become. Spielberg’s name above the title virtually guarantees a film will find an audience, but “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” was a box office success with few equals. The seventh film in the series is now the third highest grossing movie in history.
“Ready, Player, One” is based in a virtual reality universe called the Oasis — a fake utopia that human beings come to prefer to the real world. Ben Mendelsohn and Olivia Cooke head the cast, and Zak Penn (“The Avengers”) wrote the screenplay.

Good move. I think it'll do better in that slot than it would have in December even if Star Wars hadn't moved.

Amazing how that can happen and no one claim one company a bully or jerk or throwing it's weight around or any such thing. Almost like it's very normal or something.

Well, Warcraft moved to 2016 after Disney slated TFA for December 2015. When you have a big proven franchise, well, you can move where you want and the rivals will accommodate you.

It's equal parts fear and respect of Star Wars. Very few franchises have that power.

It's weird to know that (unless it moves) Justice League is coming out late next year.

and what of the fans of that thing there first? What decides if they do?

They get into a staring contest, wait to see who blinks first. Disney wants to copy the amazing success of TFA, so it makes sense for SW8 to move to December. Plus, Spielberg is close friends with Kathleen Kennedy (who runs Lucasfilm). They probably talked about the release date changes, and I don't think Spielberg took it personally. He's probably glad he has a bit more time to work on the film.

It's not like the CA3 vs. BvS standoff when WB could've simply moved from July 2015 to March/April 2016 instead of against CA3 on May 2016. It took seven months and GOTG's opening weekend before WB blinked and moved the film up.

The move isn't that big of a deal and everyone knew that it would move.

I find it kinda annoying how everything morphs into Marvel v DC thing even when neither thing is involved really.

Honey you sure do love posting that gif. :oldrazz:

The film would have gotten killed going up against a Star Wars movie and WB weren't going to release it in January or February so March makes sense.

Any excuse to post it SPIDEY. :funny:

I am totally playing. This is obviously the right move. I am kind of getting fond of Disney and WB's new March dates. Disney with their animated to live action remakes, and WB with their legit blockbusters. Still kind of hoping they move Wonder Woman to March, though I doubt it at this point.
