Steven Spielberg's ''Terra Nova''

It premieres tomorrow night. Can't wait to check this out.

Like Hunter was referring to in an earlier post....why aren't teenagers everywhere rising up in protest that they are portrayed liked such worthless pieces of crap?

TV teenagers >>>>>>> actual teenagers

TV teenagers irrationally hate everybody else, but most of all their parents.... actual teenagers are the reason that Jersey Shore is still on the air.

I think we all know what the lesser evil is here.

Would've been great if the son showed up at the end and said, "I'm sorry I suck so much," before the tearful reunion with his mom. :D

The thing I didn't like was how random and out of nowhere it came from. He was acting fine until 20 minutes in, when they settled into Terra Nova and was suddenly like "Well, it's no thanks to you, dad!!! :cmad:"

Especially when he was crying, worrying about if he would make it to the portal on time.

Yeah, that caught me by surprise too. I had pretty much the same reaction as the dad, like, "Yeah, son, I lov--hold up, what the f*** did you just say to me?!" And then their respective ladies hammering us over the head with how similar the two of them are for the rest of the episode was a bit irritating as well.

But I do like the majority of the family drama. The mom and dad's estrangement due to his imprisonment, her cop-wife fears of losing him when he's appointed to the security detail, his having to re-bond with a daughter who was too young to really know him, the incongruously hot yet geeky daughter, even Taylor's little family drama with his apparently crazy/evil son and the orphan girl becoming his surrogate daughter. It's really just the one son character who stinks up the place.

There should've been a build-up to show us that the son was pissed, because honestly, he had good reason to be. He should've just been stand-offish with the dad until he pushed the subject and then the kid snaps, "Hey, look, I'm glad that you're back, but you kind of left us to fend for ourselves for two years because you couldn't keep yourself in check. I had to be the man of the house, yada yada yada..."

But as it was... "So, good, we're all settled in. Have we all unpacked? Good. Well, on that note: **** YOU, DAD!!!" :o

If he had been the man of the house I would see where he had a gripe...he was the petulant child of the house from what I saw.

Well, we don't know how things were when the dad was locked up.

I'd say Falling Skies is better as well, but maybe that's an unfair comparison since Falling Skies has had a full season whereas this has only had a pilot episode. I wasn't exactly instantly engrossed in Falling Skies from the very first episode, to be honest.

Agreed, although given the numbers I doubt it will get to develop as Falling Skies did.

Based on what we saw in the pilot, I'm gonna go ahead and guess that the mom was the man of the house while the dad was locked up. ;)

Although, that brings up one plot hole I was confused about: The cops find the third child and the dad goes to jail for trying to stop them from taking her. But why wouldn't the cops have just taken her anyway while they were hauling dad's ass off to jail? It seems like the mom and the other two kids found some way to hide her again and, I don't know, magically make the cops un-see that she was there in the first place, because she's still hanging around with the family 2 years later when they all escape to Terra Nova. Shouldn't she have been long-dead by then?

:lmao: :pal:
LOL, that's so ****ed up yet hilarious at the same time. It makes sense though, I was wondering the same thing myself. It's like the cops walked away and were so occupied with taking the dad to prison that they just forgot about the little girl, which was the reason they came to their house in the first place. How did the dad escape a futuristic prison that easily, anyway? Is it really supposed to be that easy to slip things to prisoners in the future like his wife did?

Makes me wish that they would've come up with a different way for the dad to be apart from his family. Like, change his occupation to say he was a soldier or something and he had to leave for war. Or maybe he got shot on the job(since he's a cop) and entered a coma of some sort, only to be awakened and reunited with his family, ANYTHING but the prison thing.

It seemed so easy and convenient for the dad to find and reunite with his family just as they were going to go through the time portal. I guess it's okay for an escaped convict to knock out a police officer and run through a time portal, only to have his slate wiped clean just because no one wanted to pursue him. I know that once you step through there's no coming back but jeez, that was just ridiculous.

But in this case its not like he robbed a bank or killed innocent people. He was protecting his not supposed to have daughter. That is all. So its not like hes an outright crazy person. Both parents seems like they were respected enough

No, I had no problem with him protecting his daughter. I had a problem with the fact that the cops just forgot about the daughter and the way that he easily escaped from the prison and reunited with his family without hardly breaking a sweat. I only wanted another way for it to happen because the way everything occurred made no sense. If there were going to be no repercussions for having a third child then why did they even have that part in the show, know what I mean?

I think it might've been to have a reason for him to be locked up (an away for this family) without looking like a bad guy... keeping him a sympathetic/relatable character

a crime that he would of been locked up for in his own time, but, something that could be overlooked in the past

being a soldier or in a coma, wouldn't be something his family/kids could hold against him
(his son wouldn't be mad at him if he was just in a coma) it had to be something of his own doing, even if he did it for the right reasons

Maybe they had her in some not supposed to have kid Prison & the mother made enough money to bribe a guy to get her out ? They could still explain it down the line

she did nothing wrong by existing... he/they(him, his wife, even the kids) were the once who hide her, that was the crime... the damage of her existence(in an already overcrowded world) has already been done, there would be no point to taking her away...

they also mentioned that he probably would of got away with just paying a fine, but, that it because he lost he temper and punched a cop, that he got brought up on charges...

The soldier or the coma thing could work because his son/wife could be angry at him for constantly putting his life on the line like that. His wife already has a problem with him being a cop, so I think it could've worked.

It seemed strange that at first, the cop was holding out his hand for the little girl to grab as if he were going to take her away. After everything happened though, they just left without her. It could be explained down the road, but it's still pretty odd.

Which is ironic since she admitted in her job she's had a knife held to her throat on more than one occasion.

Yeah, you'd think she has an appreciation for his occupation by now. I wonder what's happened to her in the past, though.

I don't think she somehow hates cops, I think she's got the typical cop-wife problem of worrying too much about his safety. It's gotta be pretty tough to kiss your spouse goodbye each morning with the knowledge that you might never see them again always lurking in the back of your mind.

As for the third kid, I very much doubt the law of the land is that having extra kids is fine but you're just not allowed to hide them. The whole reason the guy attacked the cops is because the cops were actively going to take the child away from the family. What else would they be taking her away for if not to dump her in an incinerator or something? I guess maybe they could reassign her to some other family with only 1 child, but that's as good as having the kid be dead to the main family anyway; plus, it doesn't explain how she was still with the main family 2 years later. I really hope we get some kind of flashback as to how the mom and/or the other kids managed to get the third child back because right now it's a plot hole that's nagging at me.

Yeah, I don't think the wife hates cops but she does worry about him. She even told Lang's character(forgot his name) to make sure he comes home to her at night.
