I have a question. Now that Im an adult I look back to when I was in high school and realized how ignorant I was to this when the first X movie came out.

I know a lot of people who didn't like X-men didn't like it because it was nothing like the "cartoon". One of those arguments was that Storm was supposed to have an accent. She is from Africa yet on the "cartoon" she sounded like she was from England.

So in the movies...for all who hated Halle's attempt, what accent was she supposed to be pulling off cause what they tried to get her to do wasn't an African Accent. Then that begs the question: Which African accent was she supposed to use?

I don't think The Animated Series Storm sounds like she's from England as much as she sounds like she has a completely jacked-up, "masculine" voice.

I think they tried to get Berry to do an African accent... but she didn't have the proper training and people complained that it was inconsistent and/or bad.

As for which accent she was supposed to use, I would say one appropriate to Cairo, Egypt or Kenya.

I didn't think Storm's accent in X1 was that bad, though I agree it wasn't perfect either.

The Storm accents in the animated series are horrible!

But I do love the Eastern European accent that Magneto has in both animated series. However, I didn't mind McKellen's quintessentially British tones in the movies (though he did add an Americanised inflection at times, like 'I first saw her in nineteeen-fordy-nine')

ummmmmm I guess I'm just totally lost on this one. I didn't even realize Berry was acting with an accent in the movies. I need to go back and watch it again to listen closely to her voice.

It was only the first one, and it was really apparent, especially because Storm didn't have that many lines...

"You can't do this alone", "He's fine, he's quite resilliant", "I don't think it really works that way", "I suppose...it's because I'm afraid of them" were among the worst lines for her accent.

At the same time, lines like "She's fine...she's just a kid", or "she's my height...brown hair" sound exactly like Halle. It was a mixed bag.

Thanks usa........ I'm gonna have to watch that movie and listen closely to those lines :)

For the sake of a movie-related no-prize, one could easily say that Halle's accent shifted so much in the first movie because Storm was born in the US, moved to Egypt as a child, migrated to Kenya as a teenager, and moved back to the US as a young adult. Her accent was in flux, and she was slowly redeveloping her American accent.

But we all know it was because
1. Halle Berry couldn't pull off any kind of African accent
2. The studio didn't even go to the trouble of hiring a dialect coach for her
