When is the last time you saw Joe Madureira, J.Scott Campbell, Adam Warren, Kaare Andrews, Salvador Larroca, Trigun creator Yasuhiro Nightow, and even Korean sensation Hyung Tae-Kim working on the same title? You can only link these big names in comics through only one project - UDON's Street Fighter...
Last Week, UDON promised a very hot summer and beyond with the premire of the Capcom Summer Special at the San Diego Comic Con, as well as the debut issues of Darkstalkers in November and Rival Schools a month later...
In the meantime, it has become such a hip thing, much like a special status, to be involved in the Street Fighter book doing back-up stories and covers. Next up on the batting field is LeSean Thomas...
Thomas is gearing up for more action as he contributes an eight-page back-up tale of Sagat versus Adon in Augusts Street Fighter #9 and his creator-owned Cannon Busters makes Devils Due its new home...
Sagat, humiliated, scarred and hurt after his encounter with Ryu in the back pages of Street Fighter #1 then drawn by Joe Madureira, is a pale shadow of the once-feared God of Muay Thai. Will he face more humiliation in the hands of his former apprentice Adon? [!Spoiler Alert!]
[!Spoiler Alert!] Thomas told Newsarama...
How huge of a Street Fighter fan is Thomas? Huge! Right now, Keron Grant and I are locked in a battle of Makoto Versus Necro in Street Fighter 3: Third Strike at hotels at Cons we attend. After signings, its just us and the Dreamcast! [laughs] Also, my younger brother is Sanford Kelly, one of the best Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 players in the world, winning tournaments all over the nation, so I get my practice when I ever I visit home. [laughs] Ive been playing since Street Fighter 1. Im totally immersed, so having the opportunity to contribute a back-up story to the franchise next to Kaare Andrews, Joe Madureira,
Josh Middleton among other monster artists is a huge honor...
Considering the fact that Thomas contribution is going to be the longest back-up tale thus far, eight pages compared to four in the previous issues, how does he set himself loose in terms of art and creativity? Just a good album, peace and quiet and occasionally looking at Street Fighter 2: The Movie and Ablpha: The Movie for inspiration before I start laying out ideas. the artist said. Originally, the story was four pages. But I felt there was no way to execute a fight between Sagat and Adon, two awesome Thai Fighters, with just four pages. So, I asked UDON Chief Erik Ko about extending it, and he happily agreed. I had a lotta fun. I feel like Im getting over a little, having to do eight pages instead of four! [laughs] Im sure after this it will hopefully be a running trend. More fighting is always good!...
