Man Froze His Mother's Body So He Could Collect Her Retirement Checks

xtglakzc1ctpwfd8uffm.jpg

Police believe a man kept his 96-year-old mother's body frozen for 3 years so he could continue to collect her retirement benefits and Social Security checks after her death.

When Pulaski County, Ky. sheriffs showed up at Jon Whiteford's house to question him about his mother, Faye, he killed himself with a gunshot to the head. Faye Whiteford's body was later found tied up in a tarp near the driveway of a property her son had been renting. Police believe she died of natural causes in the spring of 2011.

Without Whiteford's testimony, law enforcement has been piecing together the story by talking to friends and neighbors, and what they've found is gruesome.

A friend of Whiteford's told police that his mom was always a touchy subject.

"We didn't know she had passed away, and we were afraid to ask," Al Fried said. He speculated that Whiteford, who had to move out of his mom's house after her retirement money wasn't enough to avoid foreclosure, waited to report her death because he didn't want the money to dry up.

After the foreclosure, Whiteford rented a broken-down house in another county and moved his mother's body there, while he lived at a friend's house near his mom's old place.

When he went to apply for welfare benefits of his own, he told officials he lived in his car. He also confessed his mother was dead, but said he didn't know how she died or where her body was.

"Jon stored her in a freezer from 2011 until around Christmas of 2013 when he was forced to leave his home," Pulaski Sheriff's Lt. Brett Whittaker told local news station Lex 18.

Because of the cold winter, her remains likely remained frozen until they were discovered last month.

Reminds me of that Bernie guy they made a movie about with Jack Black

I've heard of these kinds of scams before where they'd freeze or hide the dead body to keep collecting on the social security.

The funny thing is how much do they assume Obama cares about the opinion of some random factory worker in N.Korea?

Dating Show Contestant Admits to Murdering Former Wife, Lover on TV

umnzddd2zawhrlubsk2g.jpg

Sefer Calinak, when he appeared on a Turkish dating show called Luck of the Draw, revealed to the host that he had murdered both his former wife and former lover. He had served a prison sentence for both murders and was released under an amnesty program.

Calinak's late wife was also his cousin, and he admitted to murdering her out of jealousy. Then he went on to say that murdering his lover was an accident, when he "swung an axe" in her direction.

In an interview after the show, Calinak vowed to never kill another partner.

"Women would leave me after I told them that I murdered my previous wives. But I spent 14 years in jail. I have changed."
But the head of Turkey's Media Monitoring Group, Hulya Ugur Tanriover, was quoted as saying a complaint should be filed against the show, requesting that criminal background checks be done in the future.

I know they say honesty is the best policy but maybe leave the wife and mistress murdering till the 2nd date?

"I may have done it twice but I promise this time I won't murder my wife." Words to melt any womans heart.

Tyrion's Trial by Combat on Game of Thrones Has a Precedent

Tyrion Lannister's dramatic demand for "trial by combat" at the end of last night's Game of Thrones has precedent. Not just in the annals of ancient Germanic law: 12 years ago, an "unemployed mechanic" demanded trial by combat over a motor-vehicle fine.

In 2002, 60-year-old Leon Humphreys of Bury St. Edmonds, England, demanded a trial by combat from the mad king Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency. The Telegraph reports:

Leon Humphreys remained adamant yesterday that his right to fight a champion nominated by the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) was still valid under European human rights legislation. He said it would have been a "reasonable" way to settle the matter.
Humphreys, who had been fined £25 by the DVLA, said he "was willing to fight a champion put up by the DVLA, but it would have been a fight to the death." (Humphreys offered to fight with "samurai swords, Ghurka knives or heavy hammers.")

Pretty hardcore way to go about getting a fine removed

South Carolina's Jim Crow-Era Law Leads to an Insane Military Election

sgdolgiytqe3afqcl65e.png

There are fifty states in our blessed union. There is only one state that holds an open election for the general who will command its National Guard forces. The reason is to keep black people from being too powerful. The result is that a convicted stalker may end up with all the tanks and guns.

Via Stars and Stripes, here is the bizarre story of how the commander of South Carolina's 9,000 National Guard troops has to take off his uniform, don a fancy suit, and stump for Republican voters:

South Carolina is the only state in the nation where voters choose their top military officer in a general election.

In past years, the race in this military-friendly state has amounted to a mundane exercise. In 2010, Livingston made his first run for the post with no opponent and garnered 99 percent of about 900,000 votes cast.

"It is kind of awkward to switch from being a soldier that doesn't attract — and doesn't want — public attention, because my job is to serve beside and behind our commander in chief," Livingston told the AP shortly after announcing his re-election bid last month. "But when I become a politician, I have to seek attention."

This time, the race for the Republican nomination in the June 10 primary is spicier because it is contested.
Several points to make here:

First, Livingston—a two-star general commissioned by the federal government—seems eminently qualified as a National Guard commander, having worked for then-Gen. David Petraeus and led his troops on a deployment to Afghanistan in 2007.

His last challenger, whose main platform was that he was "not some left wing hippie," held a fundraiser that raffled off an AK-47. This year, Livingston is being challenged in the GOP primary by one William James Breazeale.

Breazeale is an Army Reserve field officer who has twice run unsuccessfully for Congress as a tea party-acceptable conservative—and who is currently on probation after a stalking conviction and, according to one report, has "a lurid personal history which includes references to intimidation, aggravated stalking, criminal trespass, larceny, threats of suicide, and even threats of murder directed by Breazeale at members of his own family."

His website is jamesforgeneral.com.

The second point is that this is all about the Republican nomination, and these are the only two candidates. There is no other party nominee or independent challenger running for adjutant general in the state. The winner of the GOP nod will be the uncontested generalissimo. Because what right-thinking South Carolinian wants some pantywaisted Democrat or Green in charge of the troops during a state of emergency?

That leads to the third point: An election for generals, practicalities aside, seems to politicize the military in a way the military generally isn't comfortable with, and in contravention of the longstanding American tradition of civil-military relations. What kind of party litmus test does a candidate need to fulfill in order to get campaign support to run for general?

If the whole thing seems a little unseemly and un-American, that's because the South Carolina election law is basically a holdover from the Reconstructionist Lost Cause days, according to Stripes:

The reason behind South Carolina's odd military election is a very old one, says Winthrop University political science professor Scott Huffmon.

South Carolina's constitution dates from 1895, when the white establishment reclaimed power after Reconstruction and set up a weak-governor system, with nine of the state's top officials each elected separately, he said.

"That ensured that even if a black were able to become governor, no one person would control the state government and its top offices," Huffmon said.
Huh. A Jim Crow-era law that's still on the books, with hilarious consequences (until, of course, a hurricane or a riot comes).

Well done, South Carolina. Stupidity such as this is why you lost the war in the first place.

I had no idea that SC was this stupid and backwards, well I knew they were a bit backwards but this is mind blowingly dumb

Someone had to challenge Florida.

Will.i.am Doesn't Understand How Airports Work, Booted From Lounge

frtmn7ksnz7jv00nghds.jpg

Black Eyed Peas rapper will.i.am was kicked out of a United Airlines lounge over the weekend, and like many of us do, he took to Twitter to voice his displeasure. He claims he was given the boot after United accused him of having a fake Mileage Plus membership card. Really, he just doesn't understand how airports work.

qn5sj9cprcoluhkahr3f.jpg

United has issued a statement in response, saying:

"We invite only customers travelling in United Global First, customers with Global Services status traveling in United BusinessFirst, and customers traveling in first class on other Star Alliance carriers to visit our Global First Lounges. Since the customer did not meet these criteria he did not have access to the lounge. We are reaching out to the customer and appreciate his business."
So in other words, he was traveling in Coach class, and the airline didn't feel compelled to bend the rules for him in spite of his fame. I actually think that's pretty cool.

United has two types of lounges for customers: their United Club, for regular frequent fliers, and United Global First Lounge for First Class and Business Class fliers. It seems he was either trying to pull some celebrity strings to get in the fancy lounge with his coach ticket, or may have just misunderstood which lounge he had access to with his Mileage Plus card. He was obviously trying to call out United in front of his 12 million Twitter fans by not sharing the whole story, so it doesn't appear the airline did anything wrong here.

He probably stole the card just like half the music he claims to have "wrote"

Bundy Ranch's Armed Defenders Seek Welfare to Sit Around Doing Nothing

b4vio9myjwlkw0zwpuwr.png

The life of an ever-vigilant anti-government armed patriot is hard. And by hard, I mean dull and unproductive. Also, not very profitable. Maybe that's why all those guys hanging out cleaning their guns in Nevada are now begging hard-working Americans to please give them some money.

One enterprising ranch defender needs funds so badly, he's taken to GoFundMe:

To all American Patriots:

I am the Team Leader that took Charlie Delta, the black marine, out to Nevada along with two other volunteers that all did an outstanding job at the Bundy Ranch. I understand most of you have come to know Charlie Delta through his expressed views on Cliven Bundy and the good we are all doing as patriots at the ranch. I am coming to you tonight humbly asking for your help. We may be the front line soldiers facing down an overbearing govt bureaucracy, but we are first off family men and women that have our own homes and jobs and families left behind to take on this endeavor. Therefore we have spent our fortunes for freedom and love of our fellow man and need your help to continue our efforts to keep all Americans free from tyranny. Please if you can spare even a few dollars for food, fuel and supplies to continue the stand against tyranny and an overbearing governtment [sic] please help. Even the smallext amount will help keep up the pressure to return this land to the people. I thank you all sincerely for your contribution.

Christopher E Ferrell

United we stand! Divided we fall!
Chris isn't alone in opting for unemployment assistance to play soldier out in the desert. Another self-appointed militia bigwig, Blaine Cooper, took up a GoFundMe collection "for gas, and expenses to help in our fight with the bundies all money will be used for food and gas........." (his page has since been taken down.)

How's the welfare drive going? ******. Cooper, who's been something of a celeb in the cause (and is incensed that prison inmates get free food), made just under $1,500 in a month and a half. Ferrell, meanwhile, has netted $170 from five donors... well short of his $100,000 goal. Sheesh. Why don't these losers get jobs?

Man these losers have some nerve

As for the SC thing, who the hell votes for a general? It's not like the army gets it's NCOs together to decide who they want to be the base commander. Way too many archaic rules for every state that need to be reviewed and removed.

Just like their moocher buddy Bundy. And these hypocrites are heroes of the conservative right.

Doesn't that make them slaves just like the black people Bundy talked about who were on welfare? So what's the difference?

No, no. These guys, they're heroes! Patriots! What a joke this guy and his pathetic supporters are.

Condoms Lead to Tyranny, Says U.S.'s Top Advocate of Religious Tyranny

wszwnzzva20wigydnvjl.jpg

The respectable, politically powerful golden child of the religious right says sexiness on college campuses comes from condom handouts and ends with totalitarian government.

Tony Perkins, the Family Research Council's longtime head, made the case in his radio show last Thursday. Judging from the work of the dutiful chroniclers at Right Wing Watch, Perkins laid it out like an Alex Jones conspiracy theory, only without the hassle of nominally tenuous connections between dots:

Speaking on his "Washington Watch" program, Perkins lamented "the sexualization that is taking place in our culture in general but on college campuses."

"Contraception is made available as if it were candy which sends a message, well it's there, it must be there for a reason, and then we're surprised when — this is not justification, it's wrong, we are all responsible for our actions — but we're surprised when people act on these outside factors that they are surrounded by," Perkins said. "It leads to tyranny."

Perkins told a caller that people are trying to "jettison the moral law and live by an arbitrary standard that is put in place by government."
Just to be sure I wasn't missing the point, I checked with my evangelical wife, who's up on all the religious right's given battles, to see if this was a familiar argument.

"Contraception leads to tyranny?" she said. "I have aspirin in the medicine cabinet. That doesn't mean I have a headache all the time."

Yes it makes perfect sense, take away all the college kids condoms and I'm sure all the sex they have will disappear

North Dakota Students' "Siouxper Drunk" Shirts Are Super Racist

hutiegadzkjewkqjppek.jpg

The NCAA declared the University of North Dakota's Fighting Sioux mascot "hostile and abusive" in 2005, and the state voted to remove it in 2012, which leaves the school without a nickname until 2015. Not to worry, though. A group of students has found a solution: Use the same mascot, but add a beer bong to the logo. There's no way this could possibly backfire.

"Siouxper Drunk" T-shirts featuring the beer-bonging Fighting Sioux character debuted over the weekend at Springfest, a popular party not sponsored by UND, leading to several complaints to Indian Student Services Monday morning. One student called the shirts "degrading and demeaning."

American Indian Student Services Director Leigh Jeanotte told the Grand Forks Herald he doesn't expect the school to take the complaints seriously.

"Until there is a statement, until there is action, true action, to say that this is wrong, hurtful and it shouldn't be continued, it's going to just keep going on and on and on," he said.

The timing of the shirts only added to the controversy. During Time Out Week, a Native American educational event in April, a sorority hung a banner referencing the Fighting Sioux nickname, which also drew several student complaints.

The shirts also got the attention of the blog Last Real Indians, which broke down the drunken Indian stereotypes and stats on Native deaths from alcohol that make "Siouxper Drunk" offensive.

The students behind the shirts apparently knew they would bring negative attention, but either didn't care or welcomed it. Last Real Indians posted a screengrab of a deleted tweet from April where a student bragged the shirts would "make the news."

It boggles the mind. But it's not the first time Conservatives have weird ideas about sex, contraception, and having children in general.

"Boy, these conservatives are really something, aren't they? They're all in favor of the unborn. They will do anything for the unborn. But once you're born, you're on your own. Pro-life conservatives are obsessed with the fetus from conception to nine months. After that, they don't want to know about you. They don't want to hear from you. No nothing. No neonatal care, no day care, no head start, no school lunch, no food stamps, no welfare, no nothing. If you're preborn, you're fine; if you're preschool, you're f***ed. Conservatives don't give a s**t about you until you reach military age. Then they think you're just fine. Just what they've been looking for. Conservatives want live babies so they can raise them to be dead soldiers. Pro-life... pro-life... These people aren't pro-life, they're killing doctors! What kind of pro-life is that? What, they'll do anything they can to save a fetus but if it grows up to be a doctor they just might have to kill it? They're not pro-life. You know what they are? They're anti-woman. Simple as it gets, anti-woman. They don't like them. They don't like women. They believe a woman's primary role is to function as a brood mare for the state. " - George Carlin

I did not read that as "tyranny" at first. Yep...

A stupid thing I always laugh about...are Hypsters who post that they are intentionally spamming just to up their post count......because then I get to lower their post count to make up for it....and they are then bewildered.....
You're so mean. ;)

^^
I skimmed the article linked, this kind of stuff is almost criminal.

This falls into at least three catagories: abuse of power, the technology thread, and people doing stupid things. It's cops using technology stupidly and abusively.

More stupidly than anything else so I'm sticking it in here since the entire story would never have happened if the police bothered to do something as simple as look at the license plated listed as stolen by the reader and noticed it was a different number (5SOW350. The electronic reader read it as 5SOW750) on a completely different car.

License plate reader error leads to traffic stop at gunpoint, court case

As many as four San Francisco cops handcuffed and held a woman at gunpoint after failing to check the accuracy of a vehicle-mounted license-plate reader, which misread a number.

Given that situation, a federal appeals court on Monday reinstated that woman's civil rights lawsuit (PDF). The Ninth US Circuit Court of Appeals cried foul on the San Francisco Police Department's claims that it was a reasonable traffic stop, despite the officer failing to notice that the woman's license plate was different from the one the electronic reader flagged as stolen.

Furthermore, the plate read by the electronic reader belonged "to a car with a different make, model and color" than the 1992 burgundy Lexus ES 300 the 45-year-old African American woman was driving, the court noted.

The bungle is the latest example of the fallibility of license plate readers as they proliferate among law enforcement agencies, and it highlights that officers and police agencies are relying on them instead of good old policing instincts. Just last month, a similar situation happened near the border of Kansas and Missouri, when an electronic reader misread a license plate.

The woman in the San Francisco debacle, Denise Green, will get her day in court unless there's a settlement, the appeals court wrote.

A lower court judge, in initially tossing the suit, ruled that officers made a "good faith, reasonable mistake" and that "no reasonable jury" would conclude that officers "lacked reasonable suspicion to conduct an investigatory stop."

At the time, there was no SFPD policy requiring officers to verify that a license plate of a vehicle actually matched the license plate number that an automatic license-plate reader flagged as suspicious. Green's license plate number was 5SOW350. The electronic reader read it as 5SOW750.

The woman was handcuffed, searched, and forced to her knees for about 20 minutes. She was held at gunpoint by the officers, one even with a rifle, in 2009. After the cops discovered their bungle, they let her go shortly before midnight. She filed suit.

The appeals court noted that police quietly followed the woman for some time, even stopping behind her at a red light. But they never bothered to compare the victim's license plate to the one the electronic reader reported as stolen. The court concluded that a jury might find excessive force was used, as Green was "visibly unthreatening" after being pulled over.

"During a portion of the time that the officers pointed their weapons at her, Green was handcuffed and secured; moreover, she weighed 250 pounds and was barely able to rise from her knees without assistance," the appeals court noted.

On appeal, San Francisco police authorities argued that the belief that the vehicle was stolen, "in and of itself," justified the amount of force used during the stop.

Teen Girl Ejected From Prom Because Horny Dads Can't Stop Staring

ubjn0ubqqrpahgo2o91z.jpg

A 17-year-old girl says she was kicked out of her homeschool prom because some lecherous dads complained that she was arousing "impure thoughts."

In a guest post on her sister's blog, Richmond, Va., high school senior Clare Ettinger related how one of the women organizing the dance disapproved of her dress, even after checking it met the "fingertip length" dress code requirement. When she got into the ballroom, Clare, who is 5'9", was amused to find herself surrounded by shorter girls in much shorter dresses.

On a balcony above the dance floor, a group of dads was, she said "ogling and talking amongst themselves," which grossed out Clare and her friends a little bit.

After the kids had been "swaying with the music and talking and enjoying ourselves" for a while, the same chaperone who had complained about Clare's dress pulled her aside to tell her that some of the dads felt her dancing was "too provocative" and liable to cause "impure thoughts."

Clare protested that she hadn't even been dancing, and was told once again that her regulation finger-length dress was too short. She was kicked out of the dance, and her friends decided to go with her.

The dance organizers said they would refund the group's tickets, but only Clare got her money back, even after some of her friends' parents called to ask about it.

In her post, Clare asks the Richmond Homeschool Prom to "refund my group as they verbally promised to do, and issue an apology for kicking me out of my senior prom because their husbands felt as though my body was something they had a right to control."

"I'm not responsible for some perverted 45 year old dad lusting after me because I have a sparkly dress on and a big ass for a teenager," she concludes. "And if you think I am, then maybe you're part of the problem."

The administrators of the prom's Facebook group don't seem to be swayed. They got so many negative comments about the incident that they gave up on deleting all of them and shut down the page instead.

So these dads and the school deem the girl too hot and kick her out, this is ridiculous
