Sub-Mariner/Namor

So the speaking underwater bit would be tricky I think. I think the movie should probably change it up a bit from the comics. Maybe they breath water but their living spaces and cities are inside of chambers or bubbles. What do you guys think?

or their language could be a combination of basic sounds (like marine mammals) and some form of sign language

I think that'd be a great way for them to do it. Maybe to enter their living spaces/cities it can be through special tubes or something along the lines of that, know what I mean?

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the screenwriting duo talked about the make-up of the film - and also who they'd like to see brought into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

"Namor. He is kind of a jerk and has a chip on his shoulder and he is a king and lives underwater," said McFeely. "The degree of difficulty is so high, though. Cause it could be a great movie or it could be truly terrible."

I recall hearing that Namor is in the same boat as Hulk, his film rights are owned by Universal, so Marvel could make a movie but would have to share. Which Marvel doesn't seem too interested in. Unless Universal wants to co-fund it. So the same reason we don't have a Hulk sequel is the same reason we won't get a Namor film.

his film rights are owned by Universal
Universal has distribution rights for solo movies of both characters.
If either is used in an ensemble (team) movie or they appear in another character's movie (like Thor3), then Universal has no rights.

Then Namor being used in an ensemble would make sense but where to put him? I mean they could put him in a Fantastic Four reboot or they could put him in the Disney/Marvel MCU but where exactly?

Well leaving out the FF, since they're not a sure thing (yet), you could intro him in an Avengers movie (Atlantis Attacks?), another Cap movie (reference him being active in WW2 and them two having met back then), or possibly even intro him with another new hero (Hercules being a good candidate, since Atlanteans' history and religion is tied to the greco/roman pantheon).

Yes I would probably introduce Namor that way by introducing him in an Avengers film because that would probably work best but at the same time introducing him in a movie like Hercules too makes sense because Namor is a mythical being

Luke Evans now that I think about it he would be perfect as Namor

Why does Universal own the rights to Namor? Were they going to make a Namor movie at one point and it got scrapped?

That was the plan when Arad was in charge of Marvel studios.
Apparently the contract they signed to acquire the rights allows them to keep them this long even though they haven't done anything with the character.

Yes Namor the only way he could fit into the MCU even if Universal has his rights would be similar to what Marvel did with The Hulk solo film in 2008 by releasing it under the Universal umbrella but also with it being a Marvel movie more or less but with Namor they would pretty much do the same thing

I like the idea of having him being the villain in an MCU FF film. It would be a good way to kill two birds with one stone.

1980's Pym, Jan, Synthetic Man, Union Jack, Howard Stark, Peggy Carter. Unrest in Atlantis caused by human encroachment leads to attack on land. Maybe there is a land based villain causing problems and Attuma takes advantage and pushes Namor into attacking so that he could usurp the Atlantian throne. Namor v. Synthetic Man/Human Torch, Pym and Jan, Peggy Carter and world building. Call it Avengers Initiative.

He's a good candidate, yes

Hello everyone, this is my first post here on SPH.

When it does come time for Feige to make Prince Namor, which will probably in in Phase 4 -and I strongly believe Feige will have Fantastic Four (Phase 4..Fantastic 4..Phantastic 4...hehe) I think that the MCU will do something forward thinking...

and cast Prince Namor as an Asian-American actor.

They can make Atlantis have some ethnic fluidity, but have Namor be an excellent Asian-American actor.
It'll give them that bit of representation they are missing and have been criticized for thus far.

I think if they don't seize this casting opportunity, it'll be a seriously missed opportunity.
Cast an Asian actor, who can pull of the relentlessly incessant machismo and they'll have carved their way furtherinto the Asian box office going forward.

So, while I like the choice mentioned up above for Namor, with my suggestion in mind, I see your Luke Evans and raise you Daniel Henney.

He's a solid actor and he's already had some experience working with Disney as he voice Tadashi Hamada (the big brother) in Disney Animation's Big Hero 6.

There are other choices out there as well, of course, but this is the first one that comes to my mind when I think of an Asian-American Prince Namor.

Welcome to the forum N30n.

Henney also seems like a good choice

Rhys Meyers would be another choice for Namor

Look at what I found:

Looks like Universal played with the idea for a very, very long time.

Edit: Nevermind. It's a hoax. Heh :(
