Hey guys! Those of you who know me best have seen me talk about or post pictures of the girl with whom I had been going out for the last four years. As a few of you know, we had sort of an ambiguous break/breakup back in March. Well, things have been up and down with us all summer. Right now, things are sort of on the up, and I'd like to do something sweet for her.

One thing she's always counted on me for is music. She has a crappy computer, and can't afford a new one, so I download music for her and stick it on her iPod. I got the idea to create a playlist for her based on my nickname for her, which is Angel (I've always thought she looks like an angel when she sleeps).

I've got about 19 songs which have the word "angel" in the title. What I'm having a harder time searching for is music where the word is featured in the lyrics, but not necessarily the title. I was really hoping you guys would be able to help me out.

what songs do you have so far?

what kind of music does she like, you could cover a wide spectrum here

for example:

angel of the morning - juice newton (although a pretty song, she may not like the lyric content)
angel - shaggy
earth angel - the penguin
angel of mine - monica

i would recommend Angel by Leona Lewis

Yeah, I guess I should've listed the songs I already have. She likes most popular music (rock, pop, dance, minimal hip hop and R&B). ComicChick, I thought about Earth Angel, because I have it on my Back to the Future soundtrack, but throwing something like that in there sort of clashes with the rest of the playlist. My list is pretty broad, but a really old ballad like that is too much of an outlier. And Motown, thanks for your post as well. She won't go for Elvis Costello, but I'll throw the White Stripes one in there.

Angel by Aerosmith
Lullaby (Goodnight, My Angel) by Billy Joel
She Talks to Angels by The Black Crowes
Angels by David Archuleta
Angel by Flipsyde
Lips of an Angel by Hinder
Angel by Jack Johnson
Angel by Jimi Hendrix
Angel Eyes by John Hiatt
Angel of the Morning by Juice Newton
Angel on My Shoulder (EDX's Belo Horizonte at Night Edit) by Kaskade
My Angel by Kate Hurley
Angel by Leona Lewis
Angel by Natasha Bedingfield
Your Guardian Angel by The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus
Angels by Robbie Williams
Angel by Sarah Mclachlan
Angel by Shaggy and Rayvon
Calling All Angels by Train
Angel of Harlem by U2
Angel on My Bike by The Wallflowers

As you guys can see, I've got a pretty good list with angel in the title. I ran about five different searches on iTunes, and listened to every single song Apple threw at me. What's tough is finding songs where the word is in the lyrics a lot, but not present in the title. I watched A Knight's Tale yesterday, and totally stumbled on Golden Years by David Bowie, so that's on the playlist now.

I'm not quite sure when I'll have an opportunity to put this stuff on her computer (we're doing a long-distance thing right now), so I have plenty of time to work on this here and there.

"Angels of Silence" by Counting Crows or Dashboard Confessional (If you need a mellow song somewhere after a fast-paced one, I'd recommend the Dashboard Confessional version)
"Pagan Angel and a Borrowed Car" by Iron & Wine
"Angel" by The Jones Gang

As far as songs with the word in the lyrics, there was this song one of my exes really liked: "Hold Me Like Holy Water" was its title, I think. One of the versus goes something like "She wants someone to call her angel and put the light back in her eyes". I hate country, but remember that much. Haha

thats Holy Water by Big and Rich. that songs about a woman being raped, and trying to move past it. i would think twice about that, although it is a beautiful song (Rich wrote for his sister i think?)

and if you're doing the long distance thing, listen to You're the Reason God Made Oklahoma by Dottie West and Lefty Frizzell. At least look up the lyrics, it's about a long distance love relationship
