Hey, I did a search for metal threads and didn't find the metal appreciation thread sadly.

Anyway, I wanna make a playlist for metal songs for my i-pod. You guys/girls know a lot more about metal then I do, I was wondering what you had on your playlists(or your suggestions for playlists).

I just watched VH1's top 40 metal songs of all time...And I already forgot what most of them are...

Iron Man by Black Sabbath was at No.1. I like that song but not sure if I'd place it at number one (I love the lyrics though).

Hey Cous, don't worry... I believe Metallica's masterpiece (Master and Puppet which I must say is my favorite metal song) is in the top 5... number 3 if I am not mistaken.

Ace of Spades - motorhead... you'll never go wrong with that.

  8. I watched that Top 40 Metal Songs and while some of those songs were great, none of them are what I considered to be the greatest ever.

I would've removed Korn from that list too. Maybe if it was something off their first or second album I'd agree, however, Freak on A Leash? Please. Nothing about that song is remotely metal in my opinion.

Iron Maiden's Run To The Hills and Number of the Beast? Great band and great songs, what about Hallowed Be Thy Name? Rime of the Ancient Mariner? Aces High? Powerslave? Infinite Dreams? Wasted Years?

Black Sabbath? Great band and while Iron Man and Paranoid are awesome songs, I happen to believe their namesake song "Black Sabbath" and "Children of the Grave" are their best songs from the Ozzy era.

Pantera's "Walk" and "Cowboys From Hell" are awesome songs. Although Cemetary Gates in MY opinion is their most diverse, emotional, and greatest accomplishment in metal music in general.

Juda's Priest's "Hell Patrol", "Painkiller", "Beyond The Realms of Death", "The Ripper", or "Hellion/Electric Eye" should've been on the list too.

There were a lot of great songs on the list, it's just the majority of the songs they used weren't and aren't the greatest of all time.

  9. If you want some REALLY awesome metal music, here are some bands I definitely recommend:

    Evergrey
    Opeth
    King Diamond
Iced Earth(First three albums are the best. Their self titled, Night of the Stormrider, and Burnt Offerings)
    Symphony X
    Nightwish
    Mercyful Fate
    Deicide
    Vital Remains
    God Forbid
    Killswitch Engage
    Still Remains
    Blind Guardian
    W.A.S.P.
    Black Label Society
Sepultura(Anything from Beneath The Remains and Chaos A.D.)
Metal Church(Anything from their albums "The Dark" and "A Blessing In Disguise")
    Death
    Control Denied
Megadeth(Anything from their album Peace Sells all the way to The System Has Failed. Just ignore their album "Risk")

Hope that helps some. Sorry for the long list, those are just some of my favorite bands and I recommend them to fellow metalheads.

Pantera's Cowboys from Hell, Vulgar Display of Power, Far Beyond Driven, The Great Southern Trendkill, and Reinventing the Steel are all great. Any Metallica before Load, System of a Down, Sepultura, Slayer, if you wanna hear the roots of metal get some Led Zeppelin and, of course, Black Sabbath.
I'm also a big fan of Disturbed, Slipknot, Nonpoint, Black Label Society, and, cause I can't say it enough Pantera.

Haha! I figured you'd correct me. I was in a rush and distracted by someone talking to me.

"One"... wasn't on the VH1 list... at least I can't recall. And yes, I agree, it's a masterpiece as well. Heck, the album (Master of Puppets) ROCKS!

Lets see... Tool, Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Godsmack, Megadeth, Marlyn Manson(even though he is crazy), Rob Zombie and a whole lot more... Not on the top of my head right now..

But Metallica rules them all.. IMO

You? There is no need for you to stalk me you silly wabbit! :p

Have you bought Tool's or Godsmack's (is it out yet?) new CD? Manson scares me (like Pennywise scares me) but I listen to his music as long as I don't have to watch the vids. :O
Looks like we listen to pretty much the same metal bands.

Oh, didn't know those were yours. :o
But I'm not giving them back!

Is it worth it for me to buy it or should I just make someone buy it for me? :p

When I was in my teens, my Dad was kinda horrified of my choice of music. I went to Catholic school and during study period (free period essentially) I'd draw tattoos on my arm (O boredom! :D) and once was caught by the Principal. It seems like she thought I need to be exorcised.

    My recommendation's

Machine Head - Any of their albums are a great addition to a collection. Been tearing it up for over 10 years and still sound as clean and as heavy as day 1.

Trivium - Fairly new band. They only have 2 albums so far but both are really good. These guys will hopefully make solos popular again.

Chimaira - These guys are the new Slayer. No singing, no melodies, just in your face heavy ****ing metal.

Killswitch Engage - Howard Jones is the best vocalist in the metal scene today IMO.

Those are my top favorite bands along with Metallica.
Here are some other bands I also enjoy.

    All That Remains
    Kittie
    Hatebreed
    36 Crazyfists
    Devildriver
    Soulfly
    Still Remains
    As I Lay Dying
    Atreyu
    The Agony Scene
    Biohazard
    Fear Factory
    A Dozen Furies

I enjoy "Kill Em All", "Ride the Lightning" and "Master of Puppets" equally.

All three are definite must haves in any metal collection. The other Metallica albums are up to the individual

If Metallica releases a greatest hits album, I won't buy it. I have what I need from them
