Comics Summer 2011: "Infested" and "Spider-Island"

Hey Shin...

What did you think of the last issue of Spider-Island?

:yay:

I haven't read it, yet. :(

The imminent arrival of my son and the preparations have eaten up my comics budget. Got a big show this weekend with a lot of art to sell...then I'm comic shop bound!!!

I've read some spoilers, though, and it sounds great. Honestly, this has been the best event I've read in years. In fact, I'll say it, best event since Secret War and Infinity Gauntlet. I'm even okay with the Scarlet Spider coming back. Slott actually USED the Clone Saga, as opposed to ignoring it, which speaks volumes about his respect for Spidey lore, both good and bad.

Also, Ramos won me over with the arc. His people, while still cartoony, aren't as off-putting as they were on this runs on PPSM and SSM earlier this decade. He's found a perfect balance, and it makes for an enjoyable comic.

That being said, I'd rather Marcos Martin draw ASM forever. That guy is incredible.

Wow! Awesome Epilogue to an Awesome Arc! OK, off the top of my head, I can't think of my 10 favorite Spider-Man stories, but this Spider Island might very well reside there now!

Loved the opening comical aftermath scene. Funny how it makes fun of the arbitrary stuff in comics, like the glasses, head band, and Banner's purple pants! And am I hypocrite because I liked Carlie in that opening scene? :oldrazz:

Also very happy that...

Jackal is still alive! Love he clones himself to serve as henchmen. Can't wait what he has in store next!

Liked seeing Kaine in the hoodie, but him leaving NY? If he starts leaving that connection to Pete & NY, I may loose interest in Scarlet Spider. Would be more interested if he sticks around Pete's corner of the Marvel U.

And Carlie & Pete finally split?

:woot::woot::woot::woot::woot::woot::woot::woot:

And the MJ stuff shows promise! Get Pete & MJ together and this era can easily join my other favorite eras the post Gwen 70's, the Hobgoblin era 80's, and the MacFarlane/Larsen era!

The ending was sweet and only later on did I make the connection to JJJ saying "I'll make a call." :yay:

Bravo, Mr. Slott! Bravo!

I didn't understand this....
then again, most of the Tie-In's i did not read... nor many previews...
Can you dual spoiler it:

Rough estimate of what the call is about or just as to who the call is to
exact spoiler
Just in case i decide that i really don't wanna read it... :-p
It's just
the Empire State Building illuminated red and blue at night.

Hey Shin, congrats on the upcoming bundle of joy! :)

Hey Shin, congrats on the upcoming bundle of joy! :)

Thanks! We're anxiously awaiting his arrival. My only problem is, how can he possibly live up toe the expectations set by my daughter, who can tell you the entire list of Avengers, and loves Spectacular Spider-Man?! Can it be done? ;)

As far as Spider-Island, the more I think about it, the more I like it. Also, Peter knowing Kung-Fu is something I said he should have done years ago! Really, Spidey having some hardcore fight training makes him a VERY formidable opponent! Now that he has the ol' Spidey-sense back, the threats are really going to have to be amped up! (looking forward to it, by the way!)

Heh heh....

I remember 10 years ago when Thesonofbat (yes, he's a registered poster here since 2003) was 2 years old... almost 3 years old... and he could tell me every villain that appeared in the first 30 issues of Amazing Spider-Man AND list off "by heart" the titles of all 30 stories... :wow: :wow: :wow:

Kids are f***ing great!!!

My new one is 6 months old this weekend, and I can't wait to indoctrinate Spideylore to him.

:yay:

Yeah, I tried to keep her away from it, but it pulled her in. She wants to be into whatever her daddy's into, so here we are! When she saw that SSM had a character named "Gwen" in it, that was all she wrote!!

That's awesome, lol! A family of Spidey fans. :p:

You guys a seriously awesome parents. :) I hope the little ones enjoy the epic libraries of comics available to them.

^^ Agreed. Growing up on Spider-Man is a great experience and I think it's really going to add to the greatness of their childhood.

A few years ago, I told my first son that when I "passed" away, he would get my comics.... he said "Great!!!! I can sell them and make lots of money and buy cool toys!!"

:o

I have since re-evaluated what happens to my comics... :woot:

He has also since stated that he "wouldn't sell them"...

The kids really are f***ing great!!!

Thanks...

Even my Dad gets in on the act... pretending to shoot web-shooters at my sons... :yay:

I just wish he did that with me when I was a tyke... :csad:

Whatever happens to my books, I'll have about 30 or 40 long boxes full of comics as well as about 500 trades... :wow:

Nice story, lol.

The first three issues of Spider-Island seriously had me ready to drop the book. The the last three books turned into some of the best Spider-Man of all freakin' time. Dan Slott just turned it around for me in the blink of an eye.

Carlie Cooper is out of the picture?! Dan, if you would have told me this I would have NEVER EVER thought about dropping the book in the first place!!!

With that being said things are really being set into motion here...

So...

Anybody else here thinking that Slott is setting up a Pete/MJ reunion?

Because if that's what happens...boy oh boy...what a wonderful set up. And THIS coming from someone who has disliked the MJ character since first reading Spider-Man many years ago!

What a great ending to an event!

Nah, I think Carlie will come back just in time to see Peter and MJ getting close, causing all sorts of sitcom drama. It happens all the time. :oldrazz:

I think a Peter and MJ reunion is most likely going to happen for sure, if you ask me. I just wonder how Carlie will be involved. Especially with how Spider-Island ended (which was amazing, btw).

I like the game of death costume, I also practice jeet kune do, but you sadly lost me at vegetarian.

Aloha,
Need not be an all or nothing approach. Sports nutrition can be beneficial on many levels without a total commitment to vegetarianism.I'm sure you're aware of all of the various Chinese tonics and herbs used by traditional kung fu and other martial arts practices.I demonstrated the effect of those herbs as well as promoted a total diet and fitness program.
Speaking of kung fu, it just absolutely floors me that among Spideys latest "powers" is the practice of kung fu. Now that the spider sense has been restored this should put his fighting skills close to the very top of the Marvel Universe.

DT! Welcome back!!
Maybe you can help breathe some life back into these boards!

Nice to see you back Donald!! Maybe you can breathe some life into some other thread as well. So I read all the spider-island issues. Very interested. I Just really thought
1.) Queen was dead
2.) Kaine was dead IDK how Cap turned out to be how he was that caught me by surprise
3.) I was expecting spider-man to get his power from disassembled back since Queen presence was present.

Some are good, but I see lots of things as fads. I mainly just use a multi and protein shake in the morning and some ZMA at night.

While that's true I would argue that he already was without the kung fu training. If you count number of fights in continuity then spider-man has more fight experience than any three people in the MU combined (yes even wolverine). At that level you begin to develop your own abilities and fight techniques which Peter should have already. Or to put it another way after about a million fights (and I don't think that number is inaccurate) against everything from gods to groups to machine overlords, you know how to fight and you're damn good at it, training or not.

Aloha,
As far as fighting ability, I couldn't agree more. His speed alone is capable to knocking out any normal person. I'll always be upset with the powerup of The Kingpin. My point is with this new skill who within the Marvel Universe is capable of beating him in hand to hand combat-no webbing or any other external device among the combatants.

the one part of BiB I liked was him just slapping the Kingpin around like he was nothing.

Aloha,
Which is exactly as it should be. So what, the Kingpin is big, he has no super powers.
Cage match:Spidey hand to hand combat against.................!

That was a brutal, but awesome fight.

Yep...and Spidey picking up Kingpin by his belly fat was just awesome.

Personally, I think Bendis has done a ton of damage to Spidey's cred. He's been beaten up by, well, everyone when there's a fight in New Avengers. Honestly, that's one of two reasons why I quit reading it. The other was Spidey being as useful as a bag of hammers to the team. A genius with YEARS of experience who is treated like comic relief? Spidey playing second fiddle to.....drum roll....LUKE CAGE?!

Sorry, I have yet to understand the appeal of Power Man. Also, isn't Spidey stronger than him? Yeesh.

Anyways, yeah, I want to see spidey use that Spider-Fu on some higher level baddies. A Scorpion fight would be epic, hell, even a rematch with Morlun would be something to behold with this! (although, I never want to see Morlun again since The Other)
