Supergirl Supergirl Season 2 Episode 20 "City of Lost Children" MAJOR SPOILERS

I wonder how General Zod ties into all of this?

From spoilers, he's not real. He's an illusion Clark sees when he's under mind control. He thinks he's fighting Zod when it's actually Kara.

Huh, well that sounds, disappointing TBH.

Doesn't mean something won't come of it for Season 3. :) Because here is the thing.....
How can he hallucinate about something that he has never seen before....meaning Zod exists in this universe as a real person, or at the least in the Fortress of Solitude, and could very well be a part of Season 3

Okay, I gave this one an eight. It would have been a nine except for all the James/Guardian schtick.
That whole thing with the boy could have been done with Jonn far better than with James. Jonn Jones is already telepathic, and if they wanted him to personalize with the boy, then it helps that he was a father and would know how to connect with kids. This I feel is them just shoving James down our throats.

Also it would have allowed for more Alex-time. I'm sorry for any Guardian fans, but I really wish it was done already.

Other than that, I thought it was a really good episode. There were some flaws, such as Lena needing rudimentary coddling when we know she is an absolute genius and how quickly they built the device in the desert.

It's activation and the tie-in the telepathic aliens seemed pretty flimsy too. If this is basically the same device as has been used before, then they should have had this problem with the telepathic aliens before too.

This episode also suffers from yet another poor name choice. 'City of Lost Children,' implies more than one child, and for those children to be missing... Instead, we knew were the kid was almost the entire time!

But, when it got back to the story line that mattered, I really enjoyed it. It'll be interesting to see next weeks, what with a Daxamite Army overrunning National City and them having to finally confront Rhea.

My hope is that she is not 'defeated,' but manages to escape to remain as a future threat. I also hope we will finally see Mon-el in his super suit. When he said he had to get 'something' I hoped that was what he was getting. No joy there yet though.

Doesn't the title refer to more than one child? One of them is obviously Marcus, but the other two are Mon-El, whom Rhea considers lost to her, and James, who feels he has lost his purpose, and felt lost after his father died. And Lena is probably another, as she wishes she had her mother's approval and was searching for that in Rhea.

Huh. Going into this, going off of the comments, I'd think Kara wasn't in this episode at all or just one scene...and yeah, she's here, just not the focus. I don't have a huge problem with that, but the 20 second promo for this episode.

This one:

Really deceptive since it makes it seem like this episode features a lot of Supergirl and has none of Jimmy. The Walking Dead did something similar where, when the next episode featured two characters probably not atop anyone's favorite list, instead of showing a promo for that particular episode, AMC showed a preview for 'Weeks ahead' and showed footage from several upcoming episodes.

That said, I'm left wondering why J'onn couldn't make an attempt to talk with Marcus, especially given his powers. But like the question of why Barry doesn't help Team Arrow every time they're in a jam, that'd probably make the episode a lot shorter.

I don't personally mind having a Jimmy centered episode, but it feels awkwardly placed. At the very least, it isn't 100 percent Jimmy and the Lena/Rhea stuff isn't pushed to the side altogether. But the fact that the Lena/Rhea storyline DOES get focus here makes all the stuff with Jimmy and Marcus feel like filler.

Oh, and rule of television: if a character has a gun, it ought to get used. You're telling me that Mon-El gets that gun, already has motivation to hate his mother despite a part of him still caring for her, and he doesn't use it? Well, that was a waste.

I thought this was Rhea's best episode, I liked the scenes with her and poor Lena who just can't catch a break with the matriarchal figures in her life. The big portal kibosh she's just whammied National City with sets up the final 2 eps nicely.

It was also Jimmy's best ep in a while, the story between him and the kid was not only good character development but a nod to a discussion being had in the comic book genre these days.

I initially thought they made Jimmy The Guardian in order to add a street level hero into the mix, allowing the show to broaden the type of action situations. Now I'm wondering if it was a budget choice, so they could throw a Guardian fight scene into an ep and save on Supergirl SFX.

Interesting to note that Batman exists on Kara's Earth as well.

What Batman reference was there?

They talked about people reacting to Guardian with fear in the same way they did with "Clark's friend," and Winn did a couple of imitation ears with his hands.

But I mean, they've referenced Batman a few times on this show now. It's clear he exists. This was probably the most direct one yet, though.

I know they've eluded to Batman before, but is this the first time they've mentioned that he's friends with Superman? Does that mean there may be a 'Justice League' on Earth 38?

Not the 1st time, Kara mentioned him in "The Darkest Place" as a vigilante her cousin has worked with on occasion.

It's possible there's a covert version of the Justice League already formed I suppose, but they obviously haven't made their public debut. I wonder if we'll start getting hints that Wonder Woman and Green Lantern already exist too.

And Season 1 "Truth, Justice and The American Way" ... "I thought they only wore masks in that other city".... and of course the "Gotham" reference in Ep. 1 this season.

Yeah, I was just saying it's not the first time they've mentioned his relationship to Superman.

There *shouldn't* be, given other established facts about the setting. It also would kind of be a giant gaping hole in the plot to go two seasons without a hint of it.

Which doesn't mean they might not go there anyway, the Supergirl writing team loves their giant setting-level plot holes. *ahem*

"Justice League"? no.......

"Legion of Super-Heroes"? yes......

Yeah, Legion of Super-Heroes is fine. The existence of space super heroes some centuries in the future doesn't introduce any problems.

The Legion will likely be how they get rid of Mon-El, if they want or have to.
