Supergirl Supergirl Season 2 Ep22 "Nevertheless, She Persisted" - SEASON FINALE; MAJOR SPOILERS

It doesn't "prove" anything except that Superman is an all-around class act, imo.

Again I disagree this show has been doing the same stuff since day one. I felt he was treated very well in those first two episodes and I was hopeful he would continue to be. But the finale didn't do that in certain scenes and it was all to boost up Kara. But imo it wasn't done the correct way. We'll have to agree to disagree on this I'm afraid.

Indeed we shall.

I actually think that might be it for him you know. I hope not but I thought it felt very final in some ways. He passed the torch.

I don't know who controls the rights to the character, or anything like that, but unless there is some logistical reason why Superman cannot appear again on the show, I'm confident that he will return.

Not in the same sort of role he had this season (first two episodes + finale), but maybe a couple of episodes in the middle of the season, a two-episode story in which he plays an important role, something like that.

Just for the fun of it:

I would love that, hell, even 3 to 4 eps. I really like Tyler Hoechlin as Superman, I loved him in this finale episode. One of the best nuanced scenes I have seen in a long time was the balcony scene at the end with Melissa. There is a slight, not even a second in time where he wanted to hug her, but you can feel that moment where he says......no, probably not the best thing for now. I loved that....so unbelievably powerful, and to me will make their next time together very cool.

Well they've had to get permission from the higher ups at DC/WB to use him each time and I just felt for me it felt very final. Like he passed the torch on.

I would be very sad if this was his last appearance. I love Tyler's Superman so much.

The scene can certainly be interpreted that way, but I think they've left their options open.

In the short term, the "passing the torch" vibe may set the stage for the Reign storyline, if speculation on that point is accurate.

So both season finales have Superman ending up as a mind control dope who needs to be saved by Supergirl. Than in case people didn't get the message when Supergirl beats Superman in a fight they need to have Superman explicitly say how much better Supergirl is than him in everything. Finally to top it off they have Lillian Luthor tell Lena that she is smarter than Lex as well.

This shows loves to sledge hammer you over the head with its girls rule message. As for DC/Warner's they really seem to have no respect for Superman these days. I find it hard to believe they would allow Batman to look so pathetic in any medium.

batman was a raving loon that no one recognized. I'm sure they damaged him more in alot of people's eye's then what was ever done here. . lol actually I just remembered there' a rule not to even talk about that in any other part of the the forums but that section.

So I my self will stop here. But this wasn't as bad what that movie did.

So, if it was a show called Superman would you want Supergirl to win?
The show is called Supergirl so the winner is a foregone conclusion.

I don't think anyone really has problems with the fact that Supergirl won but HOW she won the fight that bothers people.

Exactly, I see people jumping on that point and its not that. It's how it happened and what followed that.

I mentioned how I didn't like the Alex Maggie stuff on a Facebook group and I actually had people asking me what my problem with lesbians was. I said several times it was the writing and I have nothing against lesbians. But we have to accept there are muppets in this world who like to cause arguments and twist what people say.

Quite right. This show is officially off the rails. When the writers aren't promoting same-sex relationships they are raging against U.S. political developments, oblivious, apparently, to the insults they are heaping on about half of their potential audience (conservatives/Republicans). This is Hillary's "basket of deplorables" debacle played out with your favorite super heroes. The damage to the brand will be permanent. Hint to Hillary: Don't insult the people whose votes you need to get elected. Hint to SG show runners: Don't insult your audience if you expect to keep them. Verdict: This show can't end quickly enough.

Did you really think any of the deplorables were going to vote for Hillary anyway. And if the deplorables see themselves being depicted in Supergirl,
isn't it sort of up to them to mend their ways? Isn't that sort of the point? To point out their flaws to them so they can go on to become better people?
Or are the deplorables just too thick headed to ever change? Frankly Supergirl needs to go on for years and maybe it can at least save a few of them.

Or they could sort the issues or you could just stop watching. Even I'm considering not tuning into the 3rd season (at least without knowing what we're getting) but I wouldn't want a show to end because I don't like it, it's not fair on those that do.

Don't watch it if you don't like it. It is as simple as that.

If Supergirl went off the rails, then yes, we would want to see Superman win.
Just like we wanted to see Martian Manhunter and Alex win when Supergirl was affected by red kryptonite last season.
So of course we wanted to see Supergirl win when Superman was affected by silver kryptonite. Because that was the only way to save Superman.

Did anyone think they WOULDN'T give Supergirl the "victory" when we knew they would fight?

No, but some of us hoped the writers would actually give a reason for how the comparative newbie won the fight with the guy who has 10 years of experience on her, and ( generously speaking ) the exact same powers. Even if you assume sex differences are irrelevant with Kryptonian powers ( ie, size and muscle don't really have an effect on speed and strength ), that's a *huge* experience deficit.

Instead, they decided that not only don't they need to explain anything, they should do the opposite and explicitly exclude the most obvious explanations. Leaving. . . apparently Kara is just vastly superior to Clark, for no mentioned reason?

One thing that is different in their experience is that Kara has been trained to fight people stronger than her, just as Alex was trained. As Alex has said you use "their strengths" against them. That is how Kara was trained.

IMO, the only thing that people have a good reason for not be happy about is the Fortress of Solitude scene following the fight. There was no reason to write in that scene Superman saying that he was at full strength...no reason at all. The rest of the complaints come off as whining to me, that particular scene however has merit behind the complaints.

Most people's problems are with what followed to be fair, but at the same time I can see why people would also have undue euthanasia how the fight went fish given as far as he knew he was fighting Zod. Persobsloy some interference or better yet her using her wits would have been much better. In all honesty though I just wish they hadn't have fought, heroes fighting each other has quickly become cliche and boring.

If Superman has not had to learn how to fight people stronger than him in his 10+ year career, than it has been a sad and woefully written career. Especially since we know stuff like Lobo and Mongul has happened. Also Powered Armor Lex Luthor.

I liked the episode, my only complaint is the fight scenes, mainly Supergirl vs Rhea. It doesn't make sense to me that a fight between two superhumans would stick to one little rooftop. There was one bit where they smashed through another building but somehow they ended up back where they started. It's like whenever there's a fight that goes all around the city in CGI, then snaps back to live action to one of the few locations in Vancouver where they're allowed to stage fight scenes, whether it's some little rooftop location or a small patch of grass in the middle of the city. There needs to be more "traveling" during the fights, getting punched and thrown from one location to another rather than containing such an epic fight to such a tiny area.

If the writers had established that Supergirl had some sort of clear advantage, in terms of skill or power, prior to the fight, then some fans would simply have complained about that.

And, in any event, that is not what they wanted to show, they showed a very evenly matched fight, that Supergirl barely was able to win.

They did want to show her actually winning the fight, though, which is why they have some dialogue that minimizes the idea that the kryptonite had any effect other than mental.

Not to mention that sometimes the underdog, or slightly less powerful character can win, by sheer effort, a single decisive blow, or because a hero rises to the occasion. I know that some comic fans tend to want to adhere to a strict power ranking, but I don't think that type of rigidity is really necessary or positive.

(I am not a huge fan of contrived superhero fights, but that is a separate issue.)

Anyway, that is the whole point: she *doesn't* have a clear advantage. It's not a given that she will win. She might even be expected to lose.

They were still in the same building they they went through the roof down into the parking garage and then back up to the roof through the same flooring that they went down through pretty easy to see . I don't think it was nearly the epic battle that Supergirl versus Superman was and I do believe that that battle went from space to building to building to car to fountain not sure if that's enough traveling for you . LOL
