Batman
Growing up, Batman was always "cool" to me; the car, the gadgets, the fighting. I was born in 91, so I was put on Earth in the middle of the golden age of Batman. I watched Batman Forever and Mask of the Phantasm constantly on VHS and any other B:TAS stuff I could get my hands on. And the toys, oh God, the toys. I must have had at least 100 Batman associated figures, ranging from a Chris O'Donnell Robin to a Terry McGuiness Batman.
But it wasn't until I got older and then began reading the comics to where I finally understood the psychology of the character. He could have had it all, born a billionaire; but he didn't want that. He choose to give up a fun-filled lifestyle to make sure nobody would have to go through what he did as a child. Haunted by his parents' death, he became the most feared name of the criminal underworld.
So the car, the gadgets, and the fighting are still cool, but I now I feel a stronger connection to the character, as I understand why he has the car, the gadgets, etc. He's also a representation of the idea that we can do anything we set our minds to. We don't need superpowers, we just need determination. Batman may be just a fictional character to some, but he's more than that to me.
