2009 has been a pretty good year for gamers. Perhaps not as impressive as previous years, but nonetheless a great many respectable games were released this year.

In the poll I tried my best to be fair in picking the biggest and most talked about games from all platforms. The only exceptions were that I didn't include sports games or music games and only because there are so damn many of them. Also, you might notice that a few games on the list haven't been released yet. Just because there is poll, it doesn't mean you have to vote right now. :cwink: The 2008 GOTY topic lasted well into 2009, so I would encourage everyone to take their time and play all the games they want before voting.

I just wanted to make a quick notation here out of respect for the many many many games and games journalism folks who lost their jobs this year. 2009 has been very rough on the industry.

Credit goes to eternalinferno for creating the original topic.

I voted for Uncharted 2. IMO, it is by far the best game this year and I would go as far as saying the best game this Gen. so far.

I'm going to go with Dragon Age, but there has been a number of great entries this year that I haven't gotten to (looks at Assassin's Creed) but that being said I think my choice stands regardless - great story, great gameplay.

I still haven't played ACII (If I get lucky, maybe I can rent it today) or Dead Space: Extraction, but regardless, I don't think they will top my mind, so I went ahead and voted for Street Fighter IV. Hadn't been into fighting games for quite some time and SFIV basically reminded me about why I use to love the genre (even if I suck ass at it). Crafted game for the ages.

I'll go ahead and post my top titles:

1. Street Fighter IV
2. Dragon Age Origins
3. Uncharted 2
4. Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days
5. Ghostbusters: The Video Game

Demon Soul's, everything else is just to casual.

Uncharted 2. Even among a great year of gaming, Uncharted 2 was just a standout. Simply a phenomenol game. Demon's Souls would get second place to me, I was very pleasantly surprised by that game. inFamous was another that surprised me, so many new franchises are getting released this gen that have been amazing from the first title (where a lot of titles don't get really good until a second or third release).

Next year is going to have to work it's ass off if it wants to touch this years release of games. Uncharted 2, Demon's Souls, Street Fighter IV, inFamous, Batman: AA, Killzone 2, Assassin's Creed 2, (and even tho I haven't played these next 2, they get a lot of praise) Deadspace, and Resident Evil 5. Tho maybe it's a good thing if it isn't as it'll be a bit easier on my wallet lol.

I don't know about that. There are a number of what are sure to be excellent games that are already scheduled to come out in the first few months of 2010 and many more that are currently unchseduled.

Plus who knows how many awesome games are currently unannounced?

I voted for borderlands as the second voter there. it's too a addictive. and yes I do have Batman AA. too. but it is original ip and it is a sleeper hit. I'd put it as one of the new original ip categories. L4d2 and batman AA are fun and batman AA will likely be GOTY, that or uncharted 2. hmm I still need to get Assassin's Creed 2. oh damn I almost completely for got about fall out 3.

it's fun but I guess it lacking something. I like single players but I guess since I'm not playing with my buddy's I haven't played it as much as I'd like too. I still need to finish it up other wise so I'll get on that.

I voted for Assassin's Creed 2.

I would vote for Modern Warfare 2, but I'm more into storylines than anything when it comes to games(except for sport games, such as Madden or 2k10), and even though Borderlands is a great game, it IS the first of possibly many, and the world of Assassin's Creed is just too amazing and got a whole lot better, imo, in the sequel.

A VERY close third would've been ODST for me. Any Halo game is amazing though, lol.

Uncharted 2 is the best game on that list. Best visuals, best gameplay, best voice over, flat out best everything. I fully expect it to take the AIAS Game of the Year award.

^^ I'm not gonna say best voice-over, as AC2 and even AA messed up a couple of times with sentences with voices, BUT....Borderlands and Dead Space do have great gameplay.

And Dragon Age has a great story.

So, I don't think one can really say a game has the best everything. Every game has its mistakes.

No, id say Uncharted did everything better than everyone else this year. Not saying Among Thieves was without its mistakes, altho, its hard to find them, but Among Thieves was bar none the best gaming experience this year, if not this gen.

This is going to be a tossup between Uncharted 2, Dragon Age, and MW2 isn't it?

MW2 only because it's the highest selling blah blah blah.

Yeah, it couldn't possibly be that Modern Warfare 2 is an awesome shooter, right? :whatever: Who would vote for a game just because it sells well anyway? Wii Sports Resort sold like crazy, but I bet no one will vote for it. Your logic doesn't make much sense to me.

Having said that, I can say for sure that Modern Warfare 2 isn't getting my vote. Were I to vote right now it would go to Uncharted 2, but I'm waiting to play Assassin's Creed II.

I've gotta go with Uncharted 2, damn near perfection.

Its my tradition to create this thread you bastards!

:(

Anyway, as much as I friggin' love Demon's Souls, I gotta give it to Uncharted 2. Perfect follow up to already perhaps the best game on PS3, my favorite game of this gen, dream come true for a huge Indiana fan...

Love everything about it.

I never said it wasn't an awesome shooter. I said if it gets game of the year it has to do with the sheer number of fans of it, as opposed to it's actually GOTY worthiness.

Outside of Arkham Asylum, the only game on the list I've played is MW2, and the lack of replayability with Arkham Asylum is one reason I got rid of it.

MW2 got my vote for pretty obvious reasons.

Meh, to each his own I guess. I haven't played the entire game, and only a demo of it, but still, I wasn't a fan. Sure, it's great, but it doesn't seem original to me, it's like a Gen. X of Indiana Jones, or male version of Tomb Raider. Nothing new.

And the best gaming experience of this generation has to be the first Halo. But, again, that's still my opinion, lol.

But, then again, maybe you've only really had the PlayStation game consoles(1,2,3), and I have only had Xbox and 360, so what we're discussing is most likely apples to oranges, haha.

I would probably be inclined to agree with that.

Well, if you're basing what you like off how 'new' it is that doesn't bring a lot of options to the tables. I mean I see your vote went towards ACII, which is a sequel, and usually, by definition, sequels are not really 'new'.

Well, that was last gen
