Man this was a tough decision. To me it was a toss up between: Batman, Uncharted, Assassin's Creed, and Modern Warfare 2. I voted Modern Warfare 2 because of the multiplayer and that's what set it apart from all of others to me. I loved Batman's story just like I did with Uncharted and AC2 but MW2 had a great story mode and the best online play.

I will throw out something else, too. I would say that, even though I wouldn't put it in my top games of the year list, I was heavily surprised by Killzone 2. Overall, I felt the first was fairly mediocre and, despite all the hype and promising footage, I was skeptical at best.

However, the game proved pretty good. Great looking, decent length, good multiplayer and as decent a story as any of the other modern FPS titles, and consider it one the same level as Gears of War and Halo. A very nice surprise of 2009

Killzone was good, but i wouldnt quite put it with Gears of War. Killzone didnt really do anything better than any other recent FPS(other than the visuals). Gears more or less let gamers know that a 3rd person shooter could be just as fun as an FPS. Its cover system kind of made "cover systems" in.

I would. I like Gears and, sure, it reinvented and brought in the whole cover system, but I had just as much fun with KZ2 than I did with either GOW title. So, as far as self-contained quality goes, I put then about evenly

Well i think you'll be hard pressed to find too many others who feel the same, but you know, to each his own and all that jazz.

I voted for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2..

But it could easily have been Batman: AA or Assassin's Creed II, they are 2 of my other favourites of the year.

Well, yeah, since the majority of people seem to think Halo and Gears are God's gift to gaming, but I don't subscribe to that nons opinion. That's my guns and I'm sticking to them.

Thats good. Fight the power.

Gotta say, the deeper and deeper I get into Assassin's Creed 2...the more I lean towards it for GOTY.

I just wish it was technically tighter, but despite the screen tearing...I can easily overlook it because of how deep and rich the experience is with this game. It's taking me forever to beat it, too.

Psh, I beat it in 4 days :o

**** man, your a tank.

Of course, I have some strange borderline OCD thing where I NEED to collect all the feathers and treasures, etc. I've actually gotten all the feathers in every location except Venice, and cleared like two locations clean of treasures.

Well, I was going to be away from my 360 for almost 2 weeks and didn't want to be left hanging on the story for that long.

Yeah I powered through AC 2 in that time too... I had for days off, and got it at midnight launch... Twas an intense gaming sesh.

I've played a lot more games than usual this year and the best one for me was Batman.
That game gave me chills.

Batman for me. Brütal Legend eas easily the biggest disappointment with the RTS elements kept hidden and the game being sold as an action game. ;(

Assassin's Creed 2 was alot of fun, annoyned at the screen tearing. The story was fun even tho i am an atheist i'm abit bored with the whole "there is no god!" stuff going on, but the gameplay and level of variety was really what hooked me in for this.

TIME Magazine voted, and they chose Modern Warfare 2. They have a Top 10 list too. Batman Arkham Asylum in the number 2 spot is more than fine with me, but how Assassin's Creed 2 AND Uncharted 2 end up at the bottom of the list under Borderlands (I love Borderlands, mind you. Fun game) and Halo ODST is kinda a surprise.

They kinda mention the message of the game, or the story I guess, is one of the reasons. It's odd, because I've heard the game's story is pretty ridiculous.

Meh, I wouldn't put much stock in that at all. They are probably just going by popularity and how well-known the property is. Plus, an magazine that would put the goddamn Natal device above the AIDS vaccine in a Top 10 inventions of the year list is just whack

I agree.
Empire: Total War (and the Total War games in general) are terrific games with scope the majority of games don't scratch.
Are you likely to see these game of years? No, history game, strategy, PC, learning curve all in all niche.

Fun doesn't equate to quality though. Gears wasn't only a breakthrough for 3rd person shooters (including an awesome cover system used by all) but it also is still one of the best co-op games around.

One of my biggest pet peeves at the moment is games that could really easily include a co-op campaign but doesnt, at that applies to pretty much every straight FPS out there (MW 2, i'm looking at you!)

KZ2 and GOW are equal in quality as far as I'm personally concerned. You can throw out all the 'breakthroughs' this, 'one of the best' that, but that doesn't really change my mind. For me, there are roughly even

^^ Well i'm not trying to change your mind, because your opinion is your opinion, but regardless of which game you think is better, you can't argue that Gears has a much higher production value.

Meh, I don't know about that. Even if it's true, I think that's pointless most of the time. Terminator Salvation had better overall technical production values than District 9 this year, but I consider the latter the vastly superior movie in every aspect and possible way conceivable.
