Please choose the answer you feel best describes the intent of the filmmakers in the resolution with the General Zod character.

Hmmmm.....most of us have seen the deleted snow patrol scenes, but I'd love to know what the general public think, and what Lester was thinking when he edited it.

I think he killed him, how else is a human going to survive such a fall, or the temperatures etc...

I meant to click unresolved element, not that it was edited out (even though I know it was). But either one works fine.

No, Zod, Ursa and Non, were not killed!!!!!

For myself it looked like they fell into snow. Lois and Lex seemed to be unfazed by the temperatures.

Lois killed Ursa. Non killed himself. And Zod was killed by Superman. You could hear the screams of agony down that canyon.

When Lois kills Ursa, you can see the delight on Supes' face. He's thinking, "At last Lois is a killer, like me."

Was anyone disappointed that they got what they deserved.

I always figured Supes killed Zod on purpose, figuring Zod was too much of a threat to live. Plus, y'know, that fall.

The fall wasn't that deep - there was fog to conceal the bottom but from the sounds of they hit bottom pretty quickly. The fact that they were thrown first and impacted the side and then slid down the wall would have slowed their decent as well and as for Noon well he was just big and tough! Superman does not kill Zod (at least not until the story in the comics a few years later!)

Superman throws Zod to a precipice and we never see him again.

He's not even mentioned in any way.

We don't see him in jail or at the very least in a Daily Planet headline for one second.

Not even in the Phantom Zone or anything filmmakers use to do in order to inform us the villiain's alive.

But more definitive proof: they already HAD a scene showing us Zod was alive and being sent to jail and they decided NOT to put that into the film, not even a couple of seconds so we could know. I could understand they didn't want to make a special scene just to show that, okay (although even so they could have had another ways to mention Zod's fate; the headline or a short verbal mentioning) but the already had the scene and they decided not to put it into the movie, which as if for the filmmakers' intentions, shows that they prefered us to think Superman just got rid of the super-villiains by throwing them into a precipice where they... just vanished into death or died.

Donner had the intention to show Superman didn't kill him, but as we know, it was Lester who had the final cut and it's there for us to see. Having multiple options they had the surviving Zod out of the movie.

Or... Superman let him fall (he knew Non lose his powers; Non was unaware) and didn't rescue him.
