And large episode counts. Imagine if they didnt have to do 22-23 episodes every season.

God, I ****ing hope they only do like, 13. 8 would be ideal, but that’s not happening.

I wouldn’t even agree with that i think Black Lightning awful. I would take the fun with Legends over been bored by BL any day.

To each his own. As yet, I’ve only seen season 1 of Black Lightning. But in my view, it was conspicuously superior to anything from the Arrowverse. I still watch LoT. And methinks the series did improve once it went more lighthearted and comedic. But “improve” is a relative term… :word:

Some network shows do have short seasons: The Good Place on NBC and newbie Evil on CBS go with 13 episodes per.

I couldn’t even make it through Season One. I don’t think its any better in terms of quality, I think it just benefits (in terms of look) from night shooting myself. Of course each to their own as you say though mate

Black Lightning is leaps and bounds above Legends, imo. But not in production values, just in basic storytelling.

Realistically, the problem with all of our "shorter episode count" wishes, is that they're predicated on the notion of having the same seasonal budget of the shows that have higher counts, which would result in higher per-episode budgets. That's the ideal scenario: same $65-ish mil seasonal budget that The Flash gets, just spread across a smaller number of episodes. BUT, BL and Legends are evidence that should we get a shorter episode count, that wouldn't necessarily be the case. It would simply have a smaller seasonal budget instead. Because we're not taking into account their commitments to their sponsors. They spend "x" amount of money on a season of television, their advertisers expect them to deliver "x" amount of content. That's the biggest obstacle of broadcast network television - the requirement of filling a set number of primetime slots. They can't afford to spend too much on a season that won't do much to help them meet their quota. They are slaves to advertisers more than anything else. So while the idea of applying the same budget to a smaller amount of episodes is a nice thought, it's a long shot for the CW and a lot harder to work out with the number crunchers, unfortunately. Not saying it's impossible, just...unlikely.

True, that is the one thing that I feel has given BL the best quality advantage over the other shows. But then, I find most episodes of Legends to be mostly stupid filler episodes, so it ain't a guarantee either, lol.

I’m watching the Supergirl S4 finale again. My word I know I’ve raves about I’m already but they really nailed it casting Jon Cryer as Lex Luthor. I love the way he talks about his hatred of Superman, it feels so real. He’s gotta be involved in Superman and Lois.

I figured. I like the idea primarily because it doesn’t give them much time for stupid filler episodes.

That would be great, but it doesn’t always mean you don’t get filler. Take the Flash this season they only have what 9-10 episodes to tell the story they’re telling til Crisis and we’ve still had Everest filler episodes. So frustrating.

Filler episodes are the worst. Though I must admit that having them makes these shows even more faithful to comic books, unfortunately.

That’s true, but I think too often they’re just full on BS. One of the very best filler episodes in S2 of the Flash was the reverse Flash Returns. It was a great episode cause it felt like a comic story come to life. It was literally the Flash vs the Reverse Flash. If they did all the filler episodes like that (maybe even just loosely adapt one of those one off comic stories) then I think people would be more forgiving of filler episodes and even embrace them.

Ugh. Fantastic. :funny:

This **** should’ve been on HBO Max. :o

I suppose if a series/season arc is sufficiently compelling (and addictive), we get impatient with any standalone (filler) episode that doesn’t advance the main plot.

But IMO, interesting arcs within the Arrowverse have been scarce. :cwink: So any standalone episodes that were actually good (if they existed :oldrazz:) would be appreciated. And that’s the point. Fillers, per se, aren’t a problem; bad fillers are the problem.

Arguably, Buffy was expert at filler episodes. A) Most were intrinsically well crafted. B) Even though they were complete and self-contained narratives (satisfying to a casual viewer), there was often a small serial element that embellished and informed the Big Arc (a nugget for the serious fan).

LOL are you sure it wasn't just because the rest of season 2 of the Flash sucked so bad that the filler episode felt like a breath of fresh air? :cwink:

I do agree though; standalone episodes CAN be really good when they're not just an excuse for the writers to be lazy. I'm not a fan of Supernatural but I have many friends who are and a lot of them say that the standalone episodes are often better than the ones that fit into the greater story.

I’m not against “filler episodes” on principle because standalones that have little or nothing to do with the overarching plot can sometimes result in some of the best episodes of the entire series (as was the case with The X-Files and Buffy), but...that’s almost never been the case with the Arrowverse shows, so I agree the more filler avoided the better, lol.

Definitely. I far preferred the 'monster of the week' episodes of The X-Files to the never-ending alien/conspiracy saga stuff, which quite frankly began to bore me. I remember hoping that we'd get an X-Files movie that would tell one of those standalone stories, rather than Mulder 'searching for the truth - again'.

That’s the problem though while certain shows have great filler episodes the DCCW shows only do on occasion. One of my favourites actually was the Midvale episode on Supergirl.

Supernatural does really good filler episodes quite often so it’s not like we can blame it on the network

Every time I see or Brandon with the suit I can't help thinking that Tyler needs an update on his suit.vlcsnap-2019-11-11-00h54m11s000.png

There is no way Tyler will have his current suit for the upcoming Superman and Lois show. Needs to resembles Brandon’s suit, but with yellow belt and regular S symbol.

That would be great, but personally I would eliminate the underwear, I feel sorry to remove something so classic but I always thought it is better to turn the page on that.

If they are going to change Tyler’s suit they better keep that \S/ symbol. It’s the best damn S symbol I’ve seen on a live action Super outfit period.

Yes, as a design I agree, but I would like a material that does not seem plastic, brighter or metallic or kiza a metallic edge like Routh.

Also I hope that the Superman and Lois show does not overload itself with supporting characters who will end up being extraneous. They need to serve a purpose relating to Clark, Lois, and Jon.

Well, we do not know when they plan to launch the series but since they have announced it, I suppose it will be for autumn next year, so I have looked at how Batwoman production was to have an example.More or less at the end of January until February announcement of cast and in March the pilot was shot, then in May the first trailer came out, later in July it began to roll the series normally like the others. Do you think they will follow this path?

I think we’ll hear more post Crisis as I think COIE is likely what’s setting the show up. Unless they backdoor it through an episode of Supergirl like the Canaries have been on Arrow. If that happens then I don’t think we'll get the show until early 2021.

Spring is the usual pilot season, and given that they already have their core players in place, I suspect it'll be a spring 2020 pilot, on track for a fall premiere.

I hope that’s the case but I wondered when’s it’s gonna be on given how many shows there are. Do you think this is further on than the Canaries show?
