I'd rather see the Super Sons in action than bearing the soap opera stuff.

I hope they take some inspiration from Superman the animated series rather than Lois and Clark or Smallville.

All of them have their strengths and weakenesses. Lois and Clark did a fantastic job of grounding Superman and making Clark the real person. They did a great job of writing all the characters.

It'll be interesting to see how the kids play into the overall plot. Hopefully having 3 Supers in the family, Lois doesnt get lost in translation.

Maybe a Routh Superman show could happen later down the line, but not when Superman and Lois is just about to launch or go into filming. It would undercut that show and what they're trying to establish.

It's partly the same reason why they don't launch two different shows simultaneously, because they want to allow one to gain momentum and build up its fan base first before introducing another. With two Superman shows on TV at the same time, they're bound to draw comparison.

Except the only reason this is possible is because DC established two versions exist. They didn’t even need to reintroduce Routh’s Superman.

So it’s not like they are undermining one story for another it’s that they are telling two different stories we were already watching.

Lois and Clark made Clark Kent more of a real person rather than a bumbling and socially awkward reporter. He seemed like he was a competent journalist in his own right and more like the Clark Kent you'd find either in the comics or in Superman the Animated Series.

There was also great chemistry between Cain and Hatcher.

And John Shea's Lex Luthor was the first time we got a Luthor in live action who wasn't a buffoon like Gene Hackman or Kevin Spacey both of whom seemed more like a cheap crook than a savvy businessman.

You're forgetting Sherman Howard's raving sociopathic Lex on Superboy, as well as Gerard Christopher/John Haymes Newton's portrayals of Clark.

I'm not forgetting, as I can't forget what I don't know. But also I'm talking about Superman, not Superboy.

Superboy was Superman in everything but name.

Clark is adult age, in college, wearing the full cape and suit. He fights Lex, Metallo, Mxyzptilk, Bizarro, all the classic rogues.

They simply didn't have the legal rights to use Superman, but though a legal loophole retained the rights to all other characters including Superboy.

They never ran the show in repeats because they were so focused on launching Lois and Clark, which began right after Superboy ended. But it's up on DC Universe now if you're curious. The first season is awful but Clark and Lex were replaced from season 2 onwards, and by the end of season 4 it feels like a prototype for both Smallville and the X-Files.

Gerard Christopher even auditioned for the Clark role and won it in Lois and Clark, but the people who cast him hadn't seen Superboy either and replaced him with Dean Cain when they found out Christopher already had 70+ episodes playing the character.

I saw it, but Superboy had terrible time slots too and this was before streaming. it's good that it's on DC Universe.

I don't think Superboy was shown in the UK. Or if it was, I never remember it during prime time.

I wasn't aware of it myself until the DVDs came out when Superman Returns was in theaters.

Fun fact: David Nutter directed 21 episodes of Superboy. His other DC credits include:
-directed and produced Smallville's pilot (both the final TV product and the original unaired pitch)
-directed and produced Arrow's pilot, produced 2 more episodes
-directed 2 episodes of The Flash including the pilot, produced 23 episodes
-produced Batwoman's pilot

Also worked on other shows like Game of Thrones, X-Files, Entourage, Shameless, the Sopranos, Supernatural, Nip/Tuck, ER, West Wing, and 21 Jump Street.

Apparently there was a Chinese reality singing competition called Super Boy for male contestants. The female equivalent was a show called Super Girl.

I'm now disappointed we never got any reference to those in Crisis. Maybe they could've ended up on a planet full of reality singing stars and Melissa Benoist could've joined in.

All these missed opportunities in Crisis: No Lego Batman, and no Super Boy or Super Girl singing competitions. :argh:

David Nutter is the master of pilot episodes. I hope he directs the pilot for Superman and Lois.

Either him or Glen Winter.

Winter also directed the first two episodes of Supergirl's second season, where this version of Superman made his debut.

Season 1 did air on ITV but I believe it was late at night. Sky One did air some S3 or S4 episodes but those were very early in the morning. Superboy wasn’t a well known show outside of the US and tbh in the US it wasn’t that well known really. It’s always been the forgotten Superman show. It’s only in the age of the internet that the show started to get some real exposure.

Winter has serious DC cred, and technically all of it is Arrowverse.

Smallville credits:
-92 episodes as director of photography
-12 episodes as director
-10 episodes as second unit director of photography

Arrow credits:
-29 episodes as director of photography
-23 episodes as producer
-9 episodes as director

Flash credits:
-1 episode as director of photography
-30 episodes as producer
-5 episodes as director

Legends of Tomorrow credits:
-33 episodes as a producer
-2 episodes as a director (2-part pilot)

Supergirl credits:
-22 episodes as a producer
-10 episodes as a director

Titans credits:
-2 episodes as a director

Doom Patrol credits:
-Director and executive producer on pilot

Stargirl credits:
-director of pilot

I’ve said several times that Superman and Lois need to have their own writers apart from Supergirl. Exceptions being Sterling Gates and Jay Faerber.

The Daily Planet crew is the best ever on screen in my opinion. Hatcher is God tier as Lois and John Shea is a great Lex as well. It's funny but the Superman stuff is the worst part of Lois and Clark to me.

Perry White had more character than some of the other actors who've played Perry in other iterations. And it was cool that he was this big Elvis fan.

Hatcher was great as Lois and definitely better than Margot Kidder.

Why did they only show Season 1 and not continue, especially if after Season 1 was when the cast changed for the better?

Agreed, L&C had lots of redeeming qualities. One of which imo was Dean Cain as Clark, he really brought that Byrne era Clark right off the comic book pages.

Honestly I have no idea, maybe the ratings weren’t very good.

You said "one of which wasn't Dean Cain as Clark"? So you don't think he was any good in the role?
