I hope they take some inspiration from Superman the animated series rather than Lois and Clark or Smallville.
Maybe a Routh Superman show could happen later down the line, but not when Superman and Lois is just about to launch or go into filming. It would undercut that show and what they're trying to establish.
It's partly the same reason why they don't launch two different shows simultaneously, because they want to allow one to gain momentum and build up its fan base first before introducing another. With two Superman shows on TV at the same time, they're bound to draw comparison.
Lois and Clark has no redeeming qualities.
Lois and Clark made Clark Kent more of a real person rather than a bumbling and socially awkward reporter. He seemed like he was a competent journalist in his own right and more like the Clark Kent you'd find either in the comics or in Superman the Animated Series.
There was also great chemistry between Cain and Hatcher.
And John Shea's Lex Luthor was the first time we got a Luthor in live action who wasn't a buffoon like Gene Hackman or Kevin Spacey both of whom seemed more like a cheap crook than a savvy businessman.
You're forgetting Sherman Howard's raving sociopathic Lex on Superboy, as well as Gerard Christopher/John Haymes Newton's portrayals of Clark.
Superboy was Superman in everything but name.I'm not forgetting, as I can't forget what I don't know. But also I'm talking about Superman, not Superboy.
I don't think Superboy was shown in the UK. Or if it was, I never remember it during prime time.

I wasn't aware of it myself until the DVDs came out when Superman Returns was in theaters.
Fun fact: David Nutter directed 21 episodes of Superboy. His other DC credits include:
-directed and produced Smallville's pilot (both the final TV product and the original unaired pitch)
-directed and produced Arrow's pilot, produced 2 more episodes
-directed 2 episodes of The Flash including the pilot, produced 23 episodes
-produced Batwoman's pilot
Also worked on other shows like Game of Thrones, X-Files, Entourage, Shameless, the Sopranos, Supernatural, Nip/Tuck, ER, West Wing, and 21 Jump Street.
The Daily Planet crew is the best ever on screen in my opinion. Hatcher is God tier as Lois and John Shea is a great Lex as well. It's funny but the Superman stuff is the worst part of Lois and Clark to me.Lois and Clark has no redeeming qualities.

Winter has serious DC cred, and technically all of it is Arrowverse.Either him or Glen Winter.
Winter also directed the first two episodes of Supergirl's second season, where this version of Superman made his debut.

Season 1 did air on ITV but I believe it was late at night. Sky One did air some S3 or S4 episodes but those were very early in the morning. Superboy wasn’t a well known show outside of the US and tbh in the US it wasn’t that well known really. It’s always been the forgotten Superman show. It’s only in the age of the internet that the show started to get some real exposure.
Perry White had more character than some of the other actors who've played Perry in other iterations. And it was cool that he was this big Elvis fan.
Hatcher was great as Lois and definitely better than Margot Kidder.
Why did they only show Season 1 and not continue, especially if after Season 1 was when the cast changed for the better?
Agreed, L&C had lots of redeeming qualities. One of which imo wasn’t Dean Cain as Clark, he really brought that Byrne era Clark right off the comic book pages.
Honestly I have no idea, maybe the ratings weren’t very good.
You said "one of which wasn't Dean Cain as Clark"? So you don't think he was any good in the role?
