Apologies the Batman, I guess my search didn't quite work out.

I swear I wonder sometimes if people even watched this movie.
Let me guess...you're in the " oh, we're supposed to not know much about him internally because Burton wanted to preserve the mystique that surrounds the character" camp? I can appreciate having a mystique and all that but not when that's pretty much the totality of said character. Mysteries are fun for a while but mysteries in film that don't eventually get solved just become annoying. I saw this movie in theaters when I was a teenager and I knew little about Batman that didn't come from the Adam West TV show reruns. And that show is not what I'd call a character study. So this movie was the first time I'd get a chance to decide on the Batman character as to whether I'd like him or not(just like Superman was in his first film...even though I was only 5 when I saw that the first time). So here I am waiting to learn about this character and they pull that mysterious junk on me and hand the film over to a supporting actor to really give the movie momentum. Well that's not what I came to see and that's why it took 16 more years before there was a Batman ANYTHING(Batman Begins) that I could sink my teeth into and enjoy because it was the first Batman film that was actually ABOUT BATMAN.

I think maybe that's one of the places where Superman the Movie really beats out Batman. Superman was very much the main character in his movie whereas The Joker was really the main character in Batman. Although I do think that approach worked in Batman.

I guess it could work if you're already sold on the character. I wasn't and thus it didn't.

I probably said this in the other thread about this, but Superman, and it's not even close.Superman treated it's character with reverence and respect and it is still the definitive film about the character to this day.

I'm able to appreciate Batman 89 more now, after getting a few superior films since and by looking at it with nostalgia goggles, but still,a Batman who outright kills is not The Batman to me.Not now,not ever.

I have mentioned this before, but I prefer Superman:The Movie. Both STM and B89 has aged quite badly. But STM I still watch when its on TV. Its similar to Batman Begins in that said. I always watch Batman Begins when its on TV.

STM really isn't that great a film to me. It ultimately disappoints me on so many different levels including a horrible version of Lex Luthor and an annoying Lois but Chris Reeve embodies the silver age Superman so well he goes far beyond just saving the movie IMO.

Batman is better movie overall, the environment was fantastic and I have no real problems with any of the performances but nobody embodied the character the played for me so Reeves wins by a nose for me.

Batman.
Sets were off the charts, Anton Furst's designs were spot on.
Lighting was atmospheric and awesome.
It gave birth to Batman TAS
Elfman's score was iconic and is still being used today (Batman Lego)
Best looking batsuit till Batman vs. Superman (hated TDKT suits)
Made me a lifelong Prince fan, and Batman fan!

For mr Batman '89 has aged much better than STM, which while a good movie, just mostly seems ridiculous these days, so Batman for me.

Superman: The Movie and Batman are my two favorite superhero movies, but Superman is #1.

Also, I don't get the "I turn STM off when Hackman shows up" crowd, especially considering how much praise Reeve gets with some saying he saves the movie for them. You miss every Reeve scene with the exception of his dubbing of Jeff East in the Smallville scenes, his brief first appearance as Superman in the fortress, and his first scene at the Daily Planet.

I loved Reeve as Superman, and all the pre-Superman stuff, but Hackman shows up with his henchmen, one of whom may as well be the long lost fourth member of the three stooges, and the other is an airheaded waste of screentime, and that'd be bearable if Lex at least ever came off as a serious threat, but Hackman hams it up like a 60's Batman villain, with an equally absurd plan. Once he shows up I stop watching shortly afterwords, which is a shame because apart from the villain I really do like most of the movie, Lex just drags down the movie too much for me though.

If he was played more like a Bond villain and less like a Batman villain, he would've been fine :p

Reeve is great. The Superman/Lois scene at her apartment and flying over Metropolis is fantastic. And heck, I even like Hackman and Ned Beatty (I find them quite funny and Hackman plays a great slimeball), but the film's second half isn't as perfect as the first half is. In particular, I find I begin to lose interest in the climax after Superman escapes from Luthor. Superman stopping the Earthquake seems to last forever. I much prefer the final act of Superman II over the first one.

I like both, but Batman connects with me more. I've watched it more times, too.

I always felt like Hackman and his henchmen were dirived from the Batman '66 TV show.

I loved Hackman's I don't think he came across as a Batman '66 villain at all.

Superman: The Movie

It was the first superhero movie I saw and honestly, I'm not a huge fan of Burton's Batman, so yeah.

Batman

i personally think the Christopher Reeve Superman films are lame

He was going for a merry ride with cool ice relaxing his back. As far as going to hell goes, that is a pretty sweet journey. Much better than having your neck snapped.
