Can anyone confirm that Superman II the theatrical cut has remastered picture and sound?

All four movies look better than the original releases.

Hey all. Long time no speak.

I'm trying to decide which sets to buy and would appreciate some input. I'm in Region 2, and the Superman III mistake evidently affects the R2 Ultimate set as well as the R1 version. Now, the R2 release of The Christopher Reeve Collection includes the Donner Cut of Superman II, so it's quite an attractive option to simply get the Reeve Collection and then SR separately. The Ultimate Colection in R2 is a 13-disc set (the 14th disc from R1 with the Singer webisodes is left out), so the only things I'd miss out on are Look Up in the Sky and disc 13's docus and special features.

A couple of questions to help me decide:

Can those who have bought The Christopher Reeve Collection please confirm that the Superman III in that set is the correct Deluxe version rather than the 2001 version like the Ultimate set?

Can those who have bought the Ultimate collection give an opinion as to how indispensable the documentaries and special features on discs 12 and 13 are?

Thanks.

The Christopher Reeve Superman Collection does contain the correct Deluxe Version of Superman III. It features a rather wonderful vintage 'making of' documentary, a variety of deleted scenes, the theatrical trailer and a commentary by Ilya Salkind and Pierre Spengler. :super:

My brother has this boxset and it's just absolutely awesome. I am planning on buying The Christopher Reeve Superman Collection myself soon, even when The Ultimate Collection is available.

Thanks for the answer on that.

My Superman Ultimate Collector's Edition has just been mailed out & I would hope that I would get the correct version of Superman 3 but I would probably be wrong, but I will at least get to watch Richard Pryor & creepy robot woman until the fiasco with the disc is cleared up.

Damn...so first thing back from Thanksgiving, I have a mini-crisis at work and now this....

Looks like I picked the wrong week to quit sniffing glue...
(ah...joy from "Airplane!" quotes...)

This question may sound very stupid, but it's clear that all of you are far, far smarter than the people who work at Best Buy, Walmart, and Target here in South Carolina who can't tell me if it will be available tomorrow.

This Ultimate Collection isn't just an online offer, is it? They couldn't manage to tell me whether or not any of the stores will have it.

Thanks for the help.

Does anyone know whether the Superman III screw up applies to the Canadian Region 1 Ultimate Collection as well?

Canada does have different packaging because of the French translations on the cover boxes, so it may be possible Canada has the correct disc.

No, I'm pretty sure that it will be sold in the shops. :yay:

Thanks for the help!

Look forward to snatching this tomorrow, then.

I just ordered Superma: The Ultimate Collector's Edition for $57, free shipping on warnerbros.com store, just use the code WBNews

Well Best Buy was already sold out of the ultimate box, which is hard to believe given I got there at 10:05am and its not like there was a crazy mob. my guess is that WB didn't ship that many... so I got the BestBuy special edition of SR (though the Circuit City SE dvd seems to be more appealing), plus the donner cut and the SE of Superman 2... I'm keeping my original version of Superman the Movie... in total I spent $67, I know that I could have gotten the Ultimate box for three more dollars but they didn't have it...

I always find the best deals :) I refuse to buy anything at MSRP and most of the time I buy dvds at 30-50% off that price... In this case %43... So you got figure for 6 films not including the Max Flesher shorts and the two cuts of Superman 2, it's $9.50 a movie, less than quite a few barebones movies I know... And even if you just factor in Superman 1, 2, and Returns... It's 19 dollars which is like the average price of a movie not on sale.... The price for just the Donner cut is 18 on amazon.com. ANd if you were to buy just Superman 1, 2, and Returns it'd cost $63... Hence the reason why this is a great deal...

I'm wondering what the story is with poster offer. How much does it actually cost to get em?

I did this with King Kong and that's a really nice poster, just pay for shipping and give proof of purchase it takes like 3 months but it's cool.

Just came from Best Buy and got the tin set, I'm looking at the Donner cut right now and my Superman 3 disc is the 2001 version even though on the disc it says DELUXE EDITION.

I have never sent a complaint letter about mistaken DVD's before and don't know if I'll get a response.

I'll just buy S3 individually then.

From SupermanHomepage.com...

Here's the official statement from Warner Home Video regarding the Superman DVD errors previously reported on...

  • Bonus content was omitted from the "Superman III: Deluxe Edition" in the 14-disc "Superman Ultimate Collector's Edition." Furthermore, disc one of "Superman: The Movie - Four Disc Special Edition" did not include the Dolby Digital 2.0 mix. Neither disc is known to be physically defective in any way.
Warner Home Video wants to extend apologies to all of our loyal Superman fans who've waited so patiently for these great collections and has taken immediate steps to correct these errors with the intention of standing behind our product 100%.
Replacement discs can be obtained by calling: 800-553-6937 between the hours of 7 AM and 7 PM Pacific Standard Time. The exchange program applies only to purchases of the "Superman III: Deluxe Edition" in the "Superman Ultimate Collector's Edition" and to disc one of "Superman: The Movie - Four Disc Special Edition," available as a single title, as well as in "The Christopher Reeve Superman Collection" and in the "Superman Ultimate Collector's Edition."
According to fans who have already called the 800 phone number, "Superman III" will be replaced sooner (with roughly a one week turn around), with the "Superman: The Movie" disc replacement set to take a bit longer as WHV needs to re-author the DVDs.

Can someone describe whats shown in the bonus disc where they cover all the movies? Is there photage not previously seen in the various making-of specials/documentaries?
