Superman: Unbound (2013) Animated Movie Thread

Great film. Liked the drama and the fight scenes.

I'd say this is the best Superman solo animated movie so far. I love watching this back-to-back with Under the Red Hood. For me, that's the best Batman solo animated movie. I could see them happening in the same universe...wishful thinking.

TPC I agree I could definitely see this been set in the same universe as Inder the Red Hood. Infact I'd love it if they used the designs for this movie and that move to do new Superman and Batman animated shows.

By the way I just rewatched this, was more in the mood to watch it this time and I have to say I enjoyed it far more the second time. Some of the things that bugged me in the first watch didn't as much the second time, I'd still rankk it behind Elite and All Star but I definitely stand by what I said about this film having the best action of any if these films yet.

Wow – Superman: Unbound was absolute greatness!

I mean I love the story it's based on, but never thought I'd love an animated adaptation of it this much.

Great music, great voice-acting, tons of emotions and thrilling action. The animation isn't always great, but the warmth and heart of the story more than makes up for it. And the art itself is really nice.

They naturally had to make changes to the story due to the different context of it all, but how they did it was really impressive. I loved the Lois and Clark arc, it worked great for the characters, and the ending was a great pay off to it.

My favorite animated Superman movie by pretty far. Bring on a direct sequel to this with the same cast and crew I'd say!

I'm glad to see people liked this, I wasn't a fan but hopefully there's enough others that are, so we continually get more of these :D.

I wasn't a fan however, I thought the voice acting was great, but the story...seemed to lack to me. I may be on the minority, which I'm okay with, I just felt it didn't really make me think. Not in the same way crisis, under the red hood, or superman v. the elite.

The animation was great, and there are a lot of things I liked. Overall, I felt this was more like a marvel DTV though than a DC quality one.

Just my opinion, though and I'm glad some people did because I always love me a good supes movie.

Just saw it. The animation was great, the voice acting was superb, especially Brainiac's voice. I could hear John Noble's Fringe voice from time to time, which made me absolutely happy. Imagining Walter Bishop as Brainiac... it does fit and it sounds perfectly.
Superman, Lois Lane and Supergirl were very good too.
As a whole, amazing animation, nice scenes, intriguing story... Definitely not as good as The Dark Knight Returns but well... Batman stories are something else entirely :yay:

i liked it, but they did change this from the brainiac arc. one of the best parts was changed.

the best part was changed, kandor was supposed to be opened on earth and we would have 100,000 kryptonians with super powers. on a side note lois and clark are already married in this arc.

MAJOR SPOILER FOR COMIC, SO READ AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!!
and also Pa Kent is supposed to die at the end to make superman's victory bittersweet.

i'd rather they did superman last son. or the followup to this being new krypton, but the changes here make it out of wack, though not impossible to do still.

this story arc was only interesting to me as a setup for new krypton.

Well technically they could easily do the new Krypton stuff seen as how the films ends.

Also I don't think they should do a sequel, I'd rather they did another Superman story.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned THIS scene yet. This is definitely DC pushing the maturity level. I can already tell they're gonna get letters about this. :cwink:

I gotta say that at this point the way society is heading. Most kids already know what that means and a whole lot more stuff to boot so I don't see parents getting up tight about this as much as they did in the past.

As for the scene, Pure Lois I love it.

Unbound gave us a great display of Superman's powers basically unchained and almost to full peak.

I love the whole progression of Lois and Clark's relationship in this film.

Supergirl was actually portrayed better here than in Superman/Batman: Apocalypse.

Love the twist with Kandor relocated to another planet instead of Earth.

Brainiac was a force to be reckoned with in this film.

Since I didn't read the comics at the time, I don't know how-received the storyline was. I thought the story was ok and haven't read any of the New Krypton stuff and whatever came from it.

I thought the film was alright. I was disappointed that they didn't do the Cat Grant stuff (I don't think she ever talked) and the ending with Pa Kent.

I was expecting Bomer to sound more like how he does on White Collar, so it was interesting to see that he changed his voice a little bit.

Loved this
Stana Katic has become my dream Lois in addition to already being my dream Talia al Ghul.

Great voice acting.

Absolutely loved it!
If I may be allowed to nitpick a few minor things; I wish that the animation design was closer to Gary Frank's art from the comics(Superman looked kind of like Dick Van Dyke) and I would have preferred the Jonathan Kent ending.
The Lois/Braniac moment was a bit extreme, it did make me laugh. I would love to see them follow this up with World of New Krypton/War of the Supermen.
Lastly it was such a pleasure to see Superman like this again, now that we're faced with this New 52 crap.

Why did Lois have red eyes in this?

I stand by my original post after re-watching this movie. I this that this was a great movie but would have been much better if they started off with Last Son, then this arc and from there went on to the New Krypton saga and finished with War of the Supermen. I also think this would have been much better had they killed off Jonathan Kent like they did in the story as well.

The way society is going is just a shame.

Superheros used to set a standard, now as with most things these days, even they are giving in to the sinful, twisted, politically correct direction of this world!

I enjoyed Unbound, its definitely up there but It think All Star may be my favorite animated solo Superman feature. I enjoy having Brainiac as a villain, we need more Brainiac!

Flipping the birds for Braniac was bit funny
It's funny no one asked where Kent was
I don't remember anytime in animation Clark was shown married, I wish he was married in this one just like the comic arc
Are Lois & Clark confirmed married in the Elite film? Or did they go for this is a loose continuation for that film?
