SUPERNATURAL Season 8! - Part 1

Tonight's episode was... meh.

Crowley KNEW Sam was going to break into Hell... and more or less just kind of let him. Bobby's return was nice to see... but served no real purpose. You could have subbed in any innocent soul that inadvertently wound up in Hell and it would have been nearly the same episode.

And then the Benny storyline just kind of ended... because. He and Amelia were just both written into (and out of) this season so poorly. All either of them ultimately came off as was yet another contrived reason for the brothers to feud.

Jesus, could Dean and Benny be anymore Brokeback? These two are about to full on make out in broad daylight, in clear view of Michelle Williams... :o

I really liked the Dean/Benny moment myself. Really sucked that Dean had to kill him to send him packing only to help out his brother.

I'm glad that finally the relationship between the Winchesters is working fine (no more lies etc.) and I hope it stays this way! I'm confused about Naomi, is she good now? Still bad? WTF? The fact that Crowley could flee before she would have killed him makes me wonder... is it because she couldn't hold him? Or because she intentionally LET him go...? I thought demons can't escape archangels (assuming she is one). Also curious about WHY Castiel needs to protect the tablet from Dean? Will he go to the darkside or wtf? Good episode anyway, waiting for the rest!

I liked it. The scene with Dean and Benny was great and seeing Bobby again was also pretty cool.

In Naomi's case, the enemy of my enemy is my friend. They all three want to close the gates of hell.

I'm with Sawyer. I was sitting there expecting them to make out. He seemed more heartbroken over losing Benny than anyone else on the show.
The episode could have been so much better. What ruined it for me were the little things: like them not mentioning Adam as an innocent soul! And the fact that they didn't even know Bobby was down there until the Reaper said so means the writers could have had Sam look for something else. The whole entirety of season 6 and the terrifying images of Hell were undone in one episode. Crowley and Castiel were searching for Purgatory for almost 2 years and Sam found it in 5 seconds thanks to a reaper. The fact that a low level demon knew about the coyote reapers but it slipped past the KING OF HELL'S radar is just weak to me. And then Hell was meant to be this terrifying place that it took several angels to rescue Dean but Sam got in and out in half an hour. I'm not even gonna touch his time in Purgatory, when Dean was trapped for a whole year. Everything was just waaaaay too fast and executed sloppy. Still a decent episode though. And I loved that we got to see Sam in the Purgatory/season 1 filter again. Sad to see Benny gon. I really wanted him to play a bigger part in the grand scheme of the season. Naomi was nice this episode though I like her better when she's sinister.

And why was it so hard for Dean to accept Crowley was talking to Kevin? Do they not realize they tackle supernatural things?!

1. Adam is in the cage, there's no way for Sam to get him out.

2. Why would they think Bobby was in hell before the episode?

3. Crowley knew about the rogue reapers, Ajay was on his payroll. He had the demon there to be his eyes and ears.

4. Sam used a backdoor to slip into Hell, a little different than a group of Angels laying siege, which would allow demons to group together fight them off.

5. Hell - Did it look interesting? Not really. Was it still pretty creepy? I'd say yes.

We still don't know that Crowley was actually speaking to Kevin. For all we know Kevin might just have gone crazy...

I really liked this episode, it managed to wrap up the Benni storyline very nicely and gave it a good pay off.

Really liked that Naomi was clearly more powerful than Crowley, thus proving that for all of Crowley's bluster about being the king of hell he isn't all that powerful.

This episode also made me wonder if the trial was transforming Sam into an Angel, the glowing lights under his skin really reminded me of how Naomi looked a few seconds earlier.

As for Sam getting into Hell when angels couldn't, that can easily be explained away by human only portals like the one between purgatory and Earth.

One thing I'm curious about though is how long have reapers been able to get into purgatory? Why didn't Crowley just use one of them to get in there back in season 6?

Maybe he didn't know how the reaper did what he did back then? Though, this was really a really poorly written part of the episode and can probably be attributed to the writers just not thinking things through.

A few grips about the episode...

- There was no explanation as to why Ajay was corporeal, short of that he was a "rogue" Reaper.

- Crowley spent all of Season 6 desperately looking for a way into Purgatory... and there's a portal right there in Hell? That a guy on his payroll knew about? Poor writing, here.

That said... The camera lingered on the rabbit hole for a few seemingly unnecessary seconds last night. Chance it comes into play again?

You're right about the first two but my thing is they didn't even think about Adam. And them coincidentally finding out about Bobby from the reaper they needed help from was just too...I dunno convenient. They didn't even discuss a plan. Its like "okay let's get into Hell". How was he gonna determine who the innocent soul was at first? That's why I at least wish they could've mentioned their brother, even if they couldn't get in. Maybe I'm just nitpicking.

Hell did look good though. I just don't like how easy it was to get in. I miss how difficult things used to be for the boys, but with all celestial beings at their feet now stuff just seems to happen too easily.

Kevin is definitely loco in the cabasa. One thing that clued me in was when the windows exploded as Crowley was threatening Kevin. But, when Dean showed up, the windows were fine. Or, perhaps Crowley planted something in Kevin. I don't know. But, being a prophet with basically the world unknowingly counting on you probably affected him.

I thought it was always shown that a Reaper can alter their appearance? Don't see why it wouldn't include becoming corporeal.

It can still be said that a demon can't pass through that portal from Hell to Purgatory since we only see that a Reaper can, a human can and a soul can. Also, Crowley was trying to take in the souls, not necessarily walk into Purgatory. Having a Reaper tell them how to get into Purgatory won't be much help.

Homophobe much?

I'm not sure how comfortable a Reaper would be with letting Crowley and Cass just up and take all those souls from Purgatory.

.....How not if you're trying to get something from inside? He was trying to open a door.

They were looking for a way to suck up all the souls. The reaper can just appear into Purgatory on his way to Hell, so it's not necessarily a way that Crowley and Castiel were looking for to where they can absorb all the souls.

not sure if the unbroken ship windows when the brothers arrived was a continuity error, or that it is hinting that crowley's visit was all in kevin's head. maybe naomi is screwing with his mind since the place isn't warded for angels?

Either it was all in Kevin's head(and that means his mother is still alive), or Crowley could have fixed them to make it seem to Sam and Dean that Kevin just packed everything up and ran away. I'm sure it was more than just a set error.

it is pretty obvious it was in kevin's head unless crowly bought some new windows lol

A prophet going insane is odd though...why would they be predetermined to be prophets if they can easily go insane?
