SUPERNATURAL Season 8!

It makes sense for Sam cause he's done this before. Whether he's like his dad or not still doesn't change the fact he really doesn't like hunting. But honestly both characters (Sam and Dean) teeter back and forth with what they really want to do. Dean's stated plenty of times how he hates the job and how tired he is, but he just feels compelled to do it I guess.

Sigh...

I'm sorry, I'm just not buying Sam's new storyline anymore.

Years back, this may have made sense. Not now.

Sam's always been more domesticated than Dean, but over the years the show has established that he's a hero and a hunter. Hell, in "Jump the Shark" Dean made it plain that Sam's a clone of John. In Mystery Spot's alternate timeline he became one of the best.

Given what he's gone through it makes legit no sense for a guy with a lifetime's worth of training and experience to just say "Well, I'm tired of this, screw all those innocents that I won't save."

It doesn't. It's just a contrived way for the writers to wedge more controversy and unnecessary angst between the brothers. It's a joke.

You underestimate what a beautiful, loving woman can do to a man. Men give up a lot for the women they love. If sam feels strongly for this girl he would leave the hunting no problem.

When I think of how Sam's story arc doesn't make much sense this season, I think about this. Sam's love for Amelia could be the factor in Sam not wanting to hunt anymore. We don't know if Sam immediately stopped hunting, and only that he stopped hunting when he's with Amelia.

Let's face facts, Dean wasn't downright in love with Lisa. He made a promise to Sam, that's it. Lisa was someone that Dean only imagine what a life would be with a girlfriend/wife and a son. Dean was only settling with Lisa.

And...I'm assuming those flashbacks for tonight's episode was roughly only six months ago since they were celebrating Sam's birthday, or do you think Sam probably told Amelia a wrong date?

At this point, I have to disagree.

Hunting isn't just an occupation for Sam and Dean, it's life. They've both literally gone to Hell for it. Sam sacrificed himself to save the world. At this point, I can't possibly imagine that he'd be able to read the paper, see stories that he knows are related to the supernatural... and just ignore them. And pretend that there aren't monsters out there that eat children. No matter how beautiful or loving Amelia may be. He's just not that guy.

Sometimes a hunter needs to just move on though. Look at that father in "Adventures In Babysitting".

Sam, great hunter that he is, never really wanted that life anyway. Remember in season 1, he was the one who Jumped ship on the family business and wanted to go to college. His heart was never in hunting. He was always forced into it.

Yep. At the start of the series, he said helping Dean was a one time thing. Then his girlfriend, really the only person he had outside of hunting, got killed and he wanted payback. That all really snowballed into where we are now.

i cringed when sam said cricket mallet. it's a bat, not a mallet silly writers.

That worked 8 year's ago, yeah. But you can't tell me that you honestly think the man Sam has become would be able to walk away from the job.

He doesn't have to like it, the way Dean does. Hell, he can hate it. But I can't buy him just suddenly sayin 'Oh well,' and quitting. That's the sacrifice heroes make - they don't get the happy ending.

Why not? I've never gotten the impression he wants to be a hero.

Sam never wanted to be a hunter. So why is this decision surprising for most people ?

Sometimes you gotta say **** the world and be with the one you love. Sam defines himself as a human being with goals unlike Dean defines himself as what he does. Sam is at this point becoming a healthy stable human being again and he wants what every healthy human being wants. After the stuff sam has been through and sacrificed for the world i think he is just ready to get his golden ticket and he deserves it. There are other hunters out there and at some point its got to stop being his problem. He figures once he closes the gates of hell that will be his final job. I dont see anything wrong with that. Its a good point for him to leave the life..
Up until now he hasnt really had a chance. And like i said, when you are in love everything else comes second to the one you love.

Oh and something just isnt right about those memories sam keeps having. The way he left in episode one and his memories having this happy storybook glow about them makes me think something might be wrong there.

Frankly, I'm just tired of the 'oh woe is me I have dreams' We've known that for 8 seasons. I think it would be more effective for him to just put up with it, Quit with the damn memories and the rhetoric of ' i had good thing goin when you're gone blah blah' And at the end of his current quest. Quit. Period. Done. And that is that. Lol. That's just me venting a bit, cause really other than when he didn't have a soul, it's been the same old song and dance since this series began, he's just spewing it verbally even more than he used to.

As far as his memories of the good times, Maybe he just left because he has an unwavering loyalty to his brother (though by the end of this season I bet it will be gone) and has to finally finish the things he started. Sure, he left in the middle of the night, but I think that is just so he doesn't have to explain, and the memories he had actually were that good and they're worth remembering in a life of demons, monsters and killing

Idk the memories are just so storybook like with their glow and that bogus picnic and the dog finding her. Its a bit...much.

I agree. I can't help but roll my eyes when I saw those scenes.

Maybe Jensen just isn't a very good director?

As for Sam wanting to quit... I guess he just couldn't handle it solo and since he had promised to not try to find Dean if something happened he had just decided to give it up.

Plus lets face it, Sam had at that point gone through more crap than anyone can be expected to handle and considering that every time they tried to make things better in the past it had ended up creating more problems it's understandable that he would want the cycle to end.

Now that I think back, I see your point. I was thinking more of the fact that he was having them in general. The execution was definitely lacking, I didn't really pay attention to the 'glow' at first but that is unneeded and annoying. The dog doesn't bother me that much, could have been better but, meh what can ya do.

Right. He's derailed the Apocalypse. He's earned his retirement card if you ask me.

Dean did it for a whole year as well though and there were no complaints. Whether it was a promise or not. How can he get mad at Sam for holding uo his end of the deal as if he didn't hold uo his end of the deal?

I think they're just being shot that way to create as much contrast as possible between Sam's memories of the last year, and Dean's very dark ones from Purgatory. Just seems like an artsy cinematography decision to me.

Why not? I've never gotten the impression he wants to be a hero.

Well the word's real heroes rarely ask for the job.

I don't know. I'm obviously the minority here, but I just can't buy it. IMO he's seen so much and done so much that he'd know he couldn't walk away, not when he's one of the very few people on the planet that can do what he does.

I think Sam just dies the job out of guilt. Because he left the gig for 4 years when he ran off to college and by that time he was well aware of what was going on. Season 1 was vengeance, Season 2 was guilt over his dad dying (he felt he needed to honor his memory), Season 3 he was focused on saving Dean, Season 4 and 5 was all about saving the world. After that there's no real reason in his eyes to stay in the game. Season 6 he didn't have a soul and had a job to do. But after 7 ended its like "welp".

Got season 7 on DVD recently and been watching it the last few days. Still silly and no where as good as 6 but not as bad as I remember. Some episodes are just dumb but it's ok. This show has been a constant disappointment for me though. We've still never gotten JDM to come back, God never showed up (I still maintain Chuck was him) and Crowley has just become a joke. It's sad really. Unlike most I loved all the demon and angel stuff. Sure the show was amazing when they actually had to exorcise the demons and think about the person who's still in there but I find that the show was it's most engaging in seasons 4-6. I dunno why, maybe it's my religious fascination but I just love that kinda stuff. Plus, season 7's lack of Cas' was a HUGE mistake IMHO. I hope season 8 can deliver but I'm not holding my breath. Sam's story is more contrived than ever and Dean's is just sorta uninteresting. I'm interested in knowing what happened to him in Purgatory but I'm not into it like I was a couple years ago. I just really hope everything comes full circle

I agree, I liked the " Angel/Demon " stuff also, but I didn't care too much for season 6. I liked season 7 though, but it seems like the show has kinda run it's course. Don't get me wrong, it's still my favorite show on tv now, but it's getting to be a little more campy now. Season's 1-5 were actually creepy. Azazel, Lilith, even Rapheal were actual villians that you could fear/hate. Crowley is too likable in my opinion. I always see him as a likable A$$ Hole you could hang out with and get a couple of drinks. Dick Roman seemed more like a politician than a global threat, and even Lucifer wasn't that scary. Meg was more of a threat in seasons 1-2, but now she seems more like a parody of herself, and Eve was just boring. But It's still my favorite show !!

I got tired of the angel/demon stuff and thought it should've been left behind in 5. When I heard 6 was focusing more on monsters I got excited but disappointed at how it was executed. It wasn't until 7 that I actually wanted the angel vs demons plotline back again and I for one am glad its here. I do agree about Crowley not being as threatening as the other villains. I feel like the show has grown to be more Buffy/Charmed-esque than X-Files like how it used to be. I understand all that changed in 4 when the angels stepped in but still. Hell isn't even scary anymore. Crowley turned it into a waiting line. Funny, but I don't like it when the funny takes over the scary for the sake of a joke.

Dick Roman was the best part about season 7. I think the Leviathan plot would've worked better if he was the only one focused on and not Edgar and the others because they just made the O Mighty Old Ones that were hyped to be powerhouses look really lame.

I can't even call where this season is headed and I like that. The fact that SPN always ends on a bad note makes it predictable when the main point is mentioned early on in the season (like 3's "save Dean" and 4's "stop Lilith from freeing Lucifer).

EDIT: I'm rewatching 8.01 again and am I the only one who noticed someone standing outside of Amelia's house when Sam was leaving?
