They change the roster from time to time but in essence they just rearrange who is where.

I liked the new mutants. I though the x-terminators were kinda interesting. X-force were cool. And generation-x were sweet.

I would try to like the new x-men. But....

...Is there any real point. The new mutants/x-terminators/x-force/generation-x and the even the new x-men have fought countless foes, saved the earth numerous times and spilled their own blood in the cause of heroism and justice.

So why is it that apparantly they are not good enough to be x-men?

Why should we read the adventures of young x-men when we know from prior experience that in five mins time they won`t be x-men but instead will have given up and gone to college?

Out of all the junior teams only cannonball and paige ever managed to get on the big teams and then primarily as rookies.

Surely it is time that some of the elder x-men joined other teams or temporaily retired and let the junior x-men take over some of the places. One new mutant and one gen-xer is not really enough and kinda feels like an insult to anyone who followed new mutants or gen-x and who actually thought that the new mutants might have been going to become x-men.

i agree...tho now you can count Warpath as a big leaguer...M...kinda..and Darwin in a not really sorta way...nevermind..he started as an X-Man

I agree that they need to start promoting some of the younger mutants. It seems they did with Hisako...assuming she survives the current story.

But some of the others that have been doing the biz for a while now, should really be added to the X-Men ranks.

marvel want to sell comics so they will use their big characters to do it. They are going to use iceman, rogue, cyclops etc over any of generation x anyday. the big characters already have a big fan base that will buy the comics. I don't really care for the under ranks, it seems as if ideas for characters are running out

This is what Kyle and Yost are trying to attempt with "New X-Men". During the teams origins, they were just students, who trained, and were on squads. It was essentially the same concept as New Mutants and Generation X. But now, in the aftermath of House of M and the Decimation, these kid's are being trained to be the 'new' X-Men, literally. THe writers have explicitly stated this numerous times. Essentially, if not now, then sometime soon once all the 'permanent' members are figured out - they will be X-Men. A fourth team, just like Rogue's, Cyke's, and Xavier's.

The problem with that, is that Marvel doesn't even take the time to even develop their mainstay characters in the first place... The original five.

Some are either dead, in limbo, or are resorted to background characters. Or they have so much complexity to them that no one wants to do any background checks. Marvel can't make them uber-powerful, and they can't move them to other teams outside of the X-teams.

Although that wouldn't be a bad idea. As it could tie in future crossovers with other teams (Avengers, Fantastic Four, Runaways, New X-Men, Heros for Hire, etc.) and link the character back to X-Men, and vise versa.

To me, that would bring in the most money for books that aren't doing well, and raise awareness for other existing characters.

I really wish that Carey had promoted some former characters instead of using villians. I would have loved to have seen Moonstar, Sunspot, and many others become X-men

Yeah but the new mutants were originally supposed to be the new x-men. Thats why they had x-force as well. Generation x were the next generation of x-men as well and look what happened to them. Its the spiel they give every time they make one of these young teams that they are the 'new' x-men in training and then zip they are old news, none of them are x-men and there`s a new team who are touted as being the next set of young x-men.

Even if they do become a proper fourth x-men team as soon as the ratings drop guess who will be up for the chopping block without a moments hesitation? Thats right the new x-men. And then they`ll be just like all the other young mutants, only one of them will join the main team for a while and the rest we will see once every half decade.

with the exception of M, every living member of Gen X has been an X-men.

^ Good point.

Plus - unlike in Generation X, these kids are living in the mansion, training with the X-Men. Now I know this isn't a new concept. Maybe it'll be different this time, though. Plus, even though some of the members of the New Mutants (1st gen) and then later X-Force have never become X-Men, they've all been important crucial members of the X-family. Just because they're not X-Men doesn't mean they're not worth anything.

yeah I think X-men is just a name at times. When X-force moved into the mansion and worked closer with Xavier, they were pretty much X-men except they didnt report to Cyclops and Storm. They still lived with them and worked with them on occasion. Not being called X-men was just a technicality.

I felt the same about the original X-factor. Even though they were in their own title, under a different name, they were still X-men as they were living Xavier's dream by finding and training mutants in order to make for a better world for them to live in among humans

Still its difficult not to find its a lttle odd that the newest character on x-men at the moment is bishop isn`t it? And there are like four large teams running around.

The x-force and gen-x should combine with the remnants of new warriors to make a true marvel version of the teen titans. That would be a good plan, get them out from the wolverine clogged x-men machine.

Artie, Leech, Penance, the St. Croix twins, Gaia and Mondo have never been X-Men (they are the surviving members other than M, Chamber and Husk

Only Chamber and Husk have served as X-Men...Jubilee never was really an X-man...more so a tag along...she was never actively placed on a mission...or was she..i could be wrong.

Synch and Skin are dead. Maggot was there for an issue or two..he's dead too.

2 African Americans and one Hispanic(Mexcian-American) dead.

I don't know. But in with Storm's poor handle on BP (will be judged when BP#25 comes out), I'd want her to go back to X-Men. Seriously.

Artie and Leech were not part of Gen X. They were students at the school but not on the team. Mondo has also never been a member of Gen X. The Mondo that was on the team (the clone) died. Penance was the real Monet and I said she wasnt an X-men. Penance was then the twins and later a shell with no explanation. As for the St. Croix twins, I count them as M. That history is so convoluted that when I refer to M, I refer to M from Gen X 1-75. I dont distinguish between M I or M II although I probably should. I guess you are right for Gaia, but she was a nothing character. More of a waste and didnt do much with Gen X.

Maggot was never an Gen X and even if he was, he was an X-man so that doesnt count.

As for Jubilee. Yes she was an X-men, like her other 2, Gen X teammates, she joined the team as an actual member after Gen X was dissolved

When did Jubilee officially join? i remember her being part of X-Corp...but not an X-Man..er, Woman. Counting them as M or not, the St. Croix twins and Penance are characters all to their own and all were members of the team...and none of them have been X-Men. Mondo is cool...he should come back..he was originally slated to be a founding member of Gen X...but that got scrapped. What about Blink? the original...she was there during Gen X's formation in the pages of X-men and Uncanny X-Men...she isn't an X-Woman. Whether or not Artie and Leech were part of the 'team'..they were part of the book, therefore undergoing training with their powers too....and they still are not X-Men...they would actually be old enough now to be part of New X-Men...but they aren't. Whether or not she was a 'nothing' character, thats your opinion and Gaia still isn't an X-Woman...and she was by far the most powerful of the group.

Did you read Austen's run? Jubilee joined the team then. Blink was never a member of Gen X. She was out before the team was officially formed and its a moot point bc she's dead

So...Jubes was never an X-Woman before she went to Gen X?

But yeah, regardless, Jubilee IS an X-man(/woman).

She was. She was an X-woman during the Shi'ar adventure and during X-tinction Agenda. However when the teams were reformed with Blue/Gold she was taken off the team bc she was too young by Xavier. She remained with them as an unofficial member of the Blue team and still went out on missions with them until she left for the Gen X school

Okay, that's what I thought. My early 90's X-Men knowledge is a little rusty.

Well this summer will start to shake things up a bit. I hope to see more of:
Sunspot, Magma & Husk and less of Sabertooth & Mystique.

I hope we get some word soon on who will be on each team....kinda looking forward to that.
