T2 20th Anniversary

Hadn't realized it's been 20 years already. I'm also surprised I haven't seen some super epic legendary deluxe ultimate director's cut final edition release. Maybe they finally ran out of "bonus" material to throw into it?

It's a great movie to be sure and I have the steel case edition that came out back in the early days of DVD with the director's cut on it. I'll have to do a belated anniversary viewing.

20 years ago today, one of the biggest movies and most anticipated sequels in history was released. A movie that two decades later has still stood the test of time and always will. A movie that redefined and reshaped the movie industry as we know it and ushered in special effects that for the time were revolutionary and cutting-edge. A movie that was not only a sequel to an already classic movie, but was equal to the original's quality. This movie is of course none other than Terminator 2: Judgment Day.

Here's the thread to celebrate the 20th anniversary of this landmark movie. Share your T2 memories here. I know for sure later I'll be watching it to celebrate the release.

I was 4 at the time when it was released and couldn't obviously see it in the theaters sadly, but I do recall seeing it for the very first time when it premiered on Pay Per View later in 1991 and when we got the VHS, I watched it non-stop. Like so many of my generation at the time, it was a movie that immediately was an instant favorite and one that was rewatched countless times. It was among the movies that inspired me to want to make my own and want to pursue a career in the industry someday and a movie that ignited so much creativity. It's a movie that still holds up for me and never gets old. I admit now I prefer the original Terminator by a fair margin, but T2 is still an amazing movie and still one of my all-time favorites. It's a movie for me that always works on so many different levels. I'm pretty upset it didn't get a theatrical re-release this year to celebrate the occasion, this is a movie I know countless of my generation and even before mine would love to see on the big screen.

I still have memories of seeing it at the drive in with my parents...I was 3. Then when it came on HBO we taped it and it's one of those movies I tached all the time along with Batman 89 and the original TMNT flick.

I'm about to watch my Extreme Edition of this movie. This is easily one of the most significant films in cinema history.

"It's Nothing Personal" seems like an odd tagline...

You work in the cinema industr?
I watched this the last year and i found it incredible but the only thing that doesn't hold to today's standards was T-1000 falling in the fire

Oh, not, not yet anyway. Just saying it's one of those movies that inspired me to want to get involved in film and make my own.

One of my favorite movies of all time.

I've never heard of that tag line before. What does it even mean?

Not at all. Keep in mind that no one would have known that Arnold is the "good guy" now. A nice twist - but the marketing spoiled it quite early.

I remember reading on the OOP Ultimate Edition DVD in the production notes that the tagline was supposed to be a spoof on action movie taglines at the time that often used "This time, it's personal" as their tagline.

It was all over the posters. It means he's not human, so he's driven by a programmed mission. They actually did a good job with marketing. The teaser and 1st trailer didn't reveal T-1000 or that Arnold was a protector. A few weeks before release, the third and final trailer revealed this plot point and tagged "This time, he's back..for good".
This movie is without question one of the greatest sequels of all time. Up there with Empire, Godfather 2, Dark Knight and another Cameron classic, Aliens.

The T2: Skynet Edition blu ray is pretty much the version to get if you want everything Terminator. I was surprised how much they packed into one disc.

I just destroyed my RB disc out of cheer frustration because my DvD player ( PowerDvD9 which is utter utter crap ) didn't allow me to enter the code to watch the director's cut extended version...it worked once when I bought the dics months ago. Rage can get the best the me.

It's a shame that video has never seen an official release on any home format. I guess it's due to licensing issues, but if T2 ever gets another re-issue (and it certainly isn't doubtful it could, with as much as it's had before), it'd be nice to finally have that available on it.

It seems Cameron is too fixated on Avatar right now. A shame this movie didn't get any special attention for it's big 20.

for future reference each 'cut' of the move has it's own 'title' so if you hit the TITLE button on the remote you can choose the following:
Title 1 theater cut
Title 2 directors cut
Title 3 expanded directors cut (same as directors cut but it has the T1000 searching John's room and the 'happy ending' showing Sarah as a grandma in 2029)

as for that Skynet Edition Blu Best Buy has it on sale at times for less than 12 bucks (I got a copy for 9, walmart has it for about 15).

Gotta say, I'm surprised it's Dyson and not Sarah and John on the inside cover.

Edit: I guess you can see them in the terminator eyes...
