Talk Shows Return!

Whats this talk about Leno going to Fox...is that rumour?

I think Carson is TRYING to get the gig. Notice how different his show is nowadays then it was when it began back in 2002 or whatever.

At first his set was decorated with beanbag chairs or something, trying to be the gen Y latenight host, he didn't wear a suit either. Fallon's impression of him was funny

"I'm Carson Daly, and I'm a massive tool"

Whats this talk about Leno going to Fox...is that rumour?

Leno was forced to retire so NBC could sign Conan to the Tonight Show, fearing that CBS (or another network) would offer Conan a 11:35 timeslot, thus losing another talent like they did Letterman. Leno wasn't planning on retiring in 2009 and has expressed unwillingness to do so. You may have noticed Jay picking on NBC a lot more about their 4th place position.
NBC must pay Conan $40 million if he does not get The Tonight Show in 2009 as a penalty. They're also building a brand new digital studio in Universal Studios Hollywood.

So the rumours have been that sometime in 2009 (no date has been given, I would imagine Jay would retire sometime in summer) Jay will leave NBC and move to another network. He's still #1 in late night and ABC or Fox would love to have half his numbers at 11:35.
ABC could cancel Nightline and Kimmel to get Leno or push back Nightline and Kimmel.
Fox currently has Talkshow with Spike Feresten (Simpsons/Seinfeld writer) on Saturday nights. They may like to get into the late night talk show biz again. Having Leno followed by Spike would certainly make things fierce. Fox tried to lure Conan to Fox back in the early 2000s with a huge contract and 11:35 timeslot. But it wasn't a guarantee that all Fox affiliates would pickup the program at 11:35 or at all. Plus he wanted to remain loyal.

So anyway in fall 2009

CC
Daily Show - Stewart
Colbert Report

NBC

Tonight Show - Conan
Late Night - ?
Last Call - Carson
CBS
Late Show - Letterman
Late Late Show - Ferguson
ABC

So there should be news sometime this year on what will happen to Jay, Conan and the rest of the late night landscape.

The Strike Beard has made Conan mad. He took the German Disco Light Show to a whole new level.

Okay, now NBC Nightly News Anchorman Brian Williams was involved in the German Disco Light Show.

And he sang with the band again.

But it was a great level.

Williams was a bit of a *****e by asking Conan why he didn't get a Christmas present from the show and mentioned the great jacket her got from Letterman. Couldn't he do that off stage? First Maher, now Williams. Conan is going to snap soon.

Ya that was great still.

I'm sure it was a joke. He and Conan are buds.

Conan didn't look like it was a joke, he was essentially speechless on the matter and quickly changed the subject to something else.

The first season or two of Last Call were basically a "cool" version of Later. Honestly...I was disappointed when the show debut. I was expecting something different, but instead we got Later. Why did they cancel the show in the first place? Why couldn't it have been Later with Carson Daly. So...the show was struggling a bit during the later years. So what? Later was still a great talk show with Bob Costas and Greg Kinnear.

And a small update

When Leno was on Kimmel's show he asked him what his plans are for 2009 since Jay is such a workaholic and Conan is like a vulture flying above. Jay joked and started making comments about how to change Kimmel's studio layout. He then said that 2009 isn't on his mind he wants to get through the strike first. He does 160 nights of standup a year still so he could just do more standup. He also mentioned that back in 1986 he was doing Carnegie Hall, he had done about "30 Lettermans" prior and had a good college audience.

Conan went down on a Zipline with a helmet that blew smoke in the back. He then asked the viewing audience to come up with any ideas for the Zipline.

I think Jay being forced out is Poetic Justice. From what I understand Johnny was basically forced out so that Jay to take his place, while at the same time snubbing Lettermans rightful spot, so good riddance Jay.

Keep in mind, there is some dispute over the factual accuracy of events depicted in "The Late Shift." However, if even half of it is true, then those who live by the sword ...

^Anyone still remember that tv movie about the feud between Letterman and Leno?

How dare my inner voice say that my drawing wouldn't stack up to other drawings.... it would definitely beat an orange hat.
