Sunday, October 22, 2006 - 5:47 AM: A few weeks ago, I was told by an "anonymous scooper" that TDK may do some filming in Hong Kong. I sat on the news unitl I could get some more info, which I have. And as a result, there are some rumblings it may be true. Now, I don't believe that part of the story takes place in Hong Kong, but whatever shot there would substitute for some part of Gotham (or it could be part of a flashback). It's also been said that some shooting may take place in Liverpool, UK.

Christopher Nolan's Gotham City is based on cities like Chicago and Hong Kong :ninja:

Cool, I hope see alot more of Gotham in TDK.

If this happens it could be 2 things, parts of hong kong standing for gotham, or a flashback of bruce's training days. What ever it is it will be good. I woudn't mind seeing more flashbacks as batman still in the first year of his career, and its always cool to see more of bruce training whether it is physical of psychological.

Way cool since many action directors love this city for filming esp the night sequences. The last movie shot in Hong Kong was MI-3 and the result was brilliant.

Not that I'm an expert, but isn't Hong Kong more of a flashy type of city? Does it have any more rougher-looking boroughs?

Weren't the narrows based on a certain part of Hong Kong?

They were based on the Animoid Row from Blade Runner, actually.
I remember Nolan speaking several times about how the narrows were based on a part of Hong Kong (or some other prominent asian city). In fact, after he first said this the boards were filled with pictures of that area.

...and on certain "slums" of Hong Kong :)

I hope this is true. TDK filming in Hong Kong just feels right for some reason.

Wasn't that slum called Kowloon? Or something like that?

EDIT: And there the pics the are ^ lol

Sounds awesome, the more real cityscape the better. Gotham in BB seems like a huge megacity, NY x10. Looking forward to seeing new areas of it.

Just courious, did Hong Kong look like that before the British left?

Yes, it did look like that while Hong Kong was still under the British, however it was also demolished and redeveloped while still under them.
It was evacuated and demolished between 1991-1993, and then later redeveloped into "Kowloon Walled City Park" between 1994-1995.
The British left and handed Hong Kong over in 1997.

If this means we see more of Gotham City in the next film, then i'm pleased.

Yeah either way this is awesome. Hong Kong is clearly suitable for parts of Gotham to being with... but the other alternative is training flashbacks... and as others have said... either possibility is nice.

Maybe this has something to do with those rumors that they wouldn't be filming in the old sets in England? Instead of using the sets of the Narrows, they would film in Hong Kong, the inspiration/real thing? Possible? Unlikely, but interesting in my wandering little mind...

Nice!

I would love to see location shooting in Hong Kong used in TDK!

The flashy parts of Hong Kong looks like Schumacher's Gotham, with lots of neon....

I was referring to the rumor that due to some tax problem, filming in the UK would be a lot more expensive.

Well they're scouting locations in Liverpool. If they can afford to go on location in Liverpool I'm sure they can afford to go back to their sets in Shepperton Studios, yes? Liverpool is in the UK, or at least it was when they built it. One can steal anything these days, I suppose...
