I'm not sure if this has been posted. First time i'm reading it.

From Daily Variety's Army Archerd column.

Don't Call It A Re-Make

"We've been rehearsing for two weeks," Michael Caine told me on the phone from his London flat Thursday.

He, Jude Law and director Kenneth Branagh are readying to start "Sleuth." You recall, Caine costarred with Laurence Olivier in the 1972 version of Anthony Shaffer's play-script. Both Caine and Olivier were Oscar-nominated for their performances. "But we canceled each other out," Caine (now) laughs. Marlon Brando won (for 'The Godfather'). You recall, that's the year Marlon had Sacheen Littlefeather accept for him. (Michael went on to win two Oscars, three BAFTAS and three Golden Globes.)

Now, in the Harold Pinter "Sleuth" script, Caine plays the role previously starring Olivier and Law is playing the role originated by Caine. "But--," Michael is very definite, "this is NOT a remake. We are making a movie, not a remake."

Now, Caine is suited in black in the somber country house in which Olivier dressed the role of a country gentleman. And the house -- well that's a whole different setting, says Caine. "I play a control freak -- and the house -- heavy with marble and glass -- boasts many remote control features. I am a murderous psychotic and I researched the character and these conditions with Kenneth (Branagh). But I'll tell you no more," Caine laughed, obviously enjoying the prospect of his machinations in the role.

Caine claims he hasn't worked much in the past year -- only "Batman" Begins," "The Prestige" and "Children of Men." But he segues from "Sleuth" to a return in the next "Batman" in his role as Christian Bale's mentor. "I love doing it," Caine happily admitted. "Even though (director) Christopher Nolan doesn't let me keep the script once I've seen it -- and only in his presence."

But he's looking forward to it and lets us in on some of the locations -- Hong Kong, London, L.A. and Baltimore. "Baltimore!" he exclaims. "What will happen in Baltimore?" Stay tuned.
And oh yes, Caine, who says he hasn't "worked in a long time," will next also star in a "smaller" film -- "Is Anybody Out There?"

There certainly is -- Michael Caine.

Caine doesn't mention Chicago strangely enough.

Nice Find Retro once again the Hype truely needs you :)

hong kong? damn you nolan for makin it so good :)

Baltimore has some great waterfront locations - other than that, I'll have to dig deeper.......

I live 20 min away from B-more, when they shoot there, I want to be there!!:yay:

does this mean no more chicago?
cuz i live in chicago and was hoping to make an extras casting call this time around

I bet Chicago is still good to go, but they'll be shooting additional waterfront stuff in Baltimore.......

Great find, Retro.

LA! I can't believe that! If and when they do come over here, I'll check it out for sure.

milkman:
is that baltimore? that first one is a great shot.
seems like they'd have to edit some of the lights out (the blue wave) in the second one so it's not so recognizable and then that'll be pretty cool.

and hopefully they still come to chicago for the majority of the work (both for continuity and because i live here!)

I'm thinking what's in Hong Kong?

Long way too travel for a pretty skyline. You can do that in CGI. Must be something more specific?

Sounds good, though I hated "The Narrows" because there was hardly any mention of it in the comics.

Well, the Narrows designs were originally based on Kowloon City in HK.

Fantastic choices once again. Can't wait until we start seeing some set photos.

yeah. he's got to be going for some training or some antique or something. obviously there will be notable architectural structures unique to hong kong
so it probably is a specific purpose cuz it wouldn't blend with American cities

More flashbacks!

hah I forgot about that. Good luck shooting in Kowloon but yeah, slums maybe....

yeah i could see hong kong as the narrows. CGI? hey its nolan. if you can film it real than no CGI.

cgi for a whole city would probably cost more anyway depending how much crew they take to hong kong. build a set or just go there.

Yes, both shots are from Baltimore.........

The cityscape shots of Gotham were largely CG. If I remember correctly there were shots of real blocks and buildings from different cities that were composited together along with completely CG elements.... Gotham will look the same. The other locations will probably used for the outsides of close-up buildings or alleys/docks things like that.

Apparently Nolan has been watching The Wire.

Will LA + some CGI be the back drop for Metropolis?
