Tekken 7

I care (about all characters, not just females) but only in the sense that I want them to look cool and well designed. Which Nina does here in my opinion.

it would be yet another blow to the X1, after SFV, if Tekken 7 is indeed PS4 exclusive.

Hm, it's interesting, because KOF XIV is also PS4 exclusive. Obviously not as big a franchise as SF and Tekken, but the PS4 is becoming the system for fighters it seems. It's weird, because Killer Instinct has, from what I understand, been successful overall despite it's unconventional model. SFV is a different situation and all, of course, but KOF and Tekken skipping it is interesting.

^ yeah. The PS4 is quickly becoming the console of choice for fighters and JRPGs.

it makes me wonder if other franchises that have yet to go new gen, like Soul Calibur, will follow the trend and be PS4 console exclusive.

I hope, in the end though, that Tekken 7 does come to the X1.

Injustice Ultimate Edition, USF4 and Guilty Gear Xrd were also exclusive on the PS4 in terms of this console generation. One could argue that part of Killer Instincts success is bc so many fighters have skipped the XB1, leaving a space for it to cover out

The game hasnt been announced for Xbox One and could end up being a PS4 exclusive

Sounds like this could be another Tomb Raider situation where people just assumed it was coming to the other platform even though the publisher never said that

I highly doubt this'll be an exclusive. If anything, Bandai Namco might be the one dev that supports and is friendly with everyone.

The only logical reason I can think of for them to make it PlayStation exclusive is if they were extremely unhappy with the Tekken sales on 360.

Big loss for me if this happens (and I guess it won't be on pc either?) as a big Tekken fan of old. Guess it's possible as I don't think Tekken 6 sold amazingly well on 360. But I'm kind of fed up of exclusivity (outside of first party) and with the number of big games around these days I'm not going to chase any one game series to another system. If true I'm sure they've done their sums and losing the few hardcore Xbox fans is worth whatever they're getting in return. I can't help feeling though that all the games getting involved in this kind of thing are benefiting in the short term ahead of their long term.

Strange. XBL is known for having better online connection over PSN and Fighting games thrive on the online scene.

kind of weird that the Blazblue series gets released on the X1 but possibly not a big name like Tekken.

you'd figure it would be just the opposite with a more "niche" title like Blazbue being PS4 exclusive but Tekken being multiplat.

The game industry has gotten weird lately and it's only getting weirder.

It could also just be that Sony is publishing the Ps4 version and it'll be a timed exclusive like rotr. I could see that happening. There were more exclusives in the past than present. 7th gen retrospectively had most multiplatforms iirc but several generations before that were loaded with exclusives.

maybe last generation but from what I can tell they perform pretty much the same this generation.

Not really. Tekken originated on PlayStation and was exclusive for over 15 years. So it's natural that sales would continue to perform better on its original platform...I imagine it'd be the same if in some crazy world mario or halo went multiplatform, they'd still sell better on nintendo/xbox respectively

the one line i'm hoping they don't cross is iterations.

its not that odd. Fighting games typically sold better on Playstation and that was regardless of PSN vs XBL

The Xbox controller had a terrible d-pad for beat-em ups!

I don't blame Sony or Microsoft for courting multiplat exclusives, although I'd rather they spent ALL these funds on their first-party offering. But I do blame the companies who succumb to the temptation. Once fans miss out on a game in the series the enthusiasm is not quite the same for future titles. On a franchise that intends to hang around for decades the lost goodwill I don't think can be replaced by the profits on one game.

I know, I was a player in those past gens rather than looking it up on wiki. ;)

Timed would be fine. And the difference back then was those games were seen as belonging to a certain system like unofficial exclusives. Once a game goes multiplatform and creates new fans, it's then a thing to take it away from those people. Of course gamers should understand profit will understandably dictate where a game will be made, but I don't think the long term profit on eternal franchises is worth skipping systems and fanbases that could also be around in the very long term (different on a dead system that will have no successor of course). Noone cares if a game/studio chooses to align with a particular console and sticks with them.

it only bothers me when they do it to a franchise that was either exclusive to another platform before or was always multiplatform.

tomb raider was technically originally a sega game and then a playstation game and suffice to say lara croft was arguably mostly associated with playstation. and phil spencer literally said he wanted an uncharted-like game exclusive to xbone. so that was uncool.

however...if they paid and secured the rights to Me4, I would hate that, but I would respect it. Mas Effect was originally a 360 game so if they paid to make it exclusive, to me, it wouldn't be totally unfair. that being said as someone who's a hardcore ME fan on playstation it would still suck lol

Ay man, I didn't discover wiki till I was like a teenager but I've been playing games waaaay before that too! :oldrazz:

I understand that, but what if going multiplat didn't create the bigger community of fans that the publisher hoped it would? persona 4 arena was also multiplatform but the next persona game has gone right back to being playstation exclusive, for example. so considering the fanbase, how many people did atlus take persona away from?

I'd be pleasantly surprised at seeing tekken be an exclusive but again, I really don't think it will happen.

Yeah, for anyone who has been with PS since day 1 that would be very annoying but at least it's only timed. And Mass Effect would have been a huge exclusive for Xbox to keep but now that it's got new fans on PS I don't want any deals meaning people who want to play can't play. A lot of gamers are young and can no way afford more than one console per gen and it could be their favourite series, the reason they even bought the console.

don't say that to project pat, he'll tell you it's nonsense

but anyways yeah, back in the last gen most people definitely played ME on xbox since that was its platform of origin, but I think it's safe to say a lot of people who had 360s bought Ps4s, so ME fans are probably more spread out between the two consoles now. I was just saying because ME started off as an xbox exclusive, I would say it wouldn't be an unfair move for mS to try and gain exclusive rights to Me4 because of their history.

Ha, I'm just messing with ya, nothing wrong with having youth on your side!

It's a personal want and issue rather than anything else. The corporations have the right to do as they please. Maybe Tekken wouldn't be successful on X1 anyway. I can't know that but I'll lose interest in what was one of my favourite franchises if it happens and I usually buy every game in a franchise for life once I'm in so I'm loyal at least lol.

If Street Fighter hadn't been on pc I would have moved on from that too (those were my 2 big beat'em ups as a teenager). There's too much choice in leisure nowadays for big risks to be taken by the big companies and their userbase and Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo can all attest to what happens when you get casual with goodwill built up having each alienated their fans with dumb moves at some stage in the last couple of generations.
