Teleprompter vs Bush-isms?

Frankly...I LIKED the fact our previous president has quarks...I dont wnat a President that is a perfect speaker...I want someone with character (not picking on Obama in this, just a general statement)

A little character is good...now Bush...he made people feel he was a moron at times...I consider that "a little too much character"

Obama has plenty of character. He is very in touch with the culture, similar to how Clinton was. Obama has enough character that people elected the guy despite the fact that he has almost no relevant experience for a governing job.

Most actors spend night and day MEMORIZING those lines. That is their only job. You may think the POTUS only does public speaking, but that simply isn't the case. He's got other things to worry about in between public appearances. I'd rather have the President actually working on real things in between public appearances than trying to memorize the lines of his speeches. :whatever:
The point is that they aren't his speeches

if you wrote something, you'd know what it was or sounded like, you'd be able to tell whether you were reading your own work or not.

I don't want any president who simply turns up to an event and does his lines. That's what newsreaders are for.

co-write your own speeches and AT least run through them beforehand.

I hope he doesn't get other people doing his work and he just ends up being the 'signature' guy. I bet he'd sign his own death warrant with the attention to detail he has...

Obama does co-write his speeches. In fact he's more of a speechwriter than most of the Presidents in this country's history.

Bush definitely was strange... he had very little charm... his approval ratings certainly were up and down... and he his whole presidency was at the bottom of the barrel...

Yeah... I just made a physics joke. :csad:

I have a feeling there are alot of people that would disagree with you on that. One thing I do know from people that worked with him as governor was the fact that once he met you the next time he saw you, he'd remember your name. He also was very easy to talk to, even in the most difficult of situations. So those may not be charm to you, but in the south, they are very much a part of the charm.

I'll hit the man hard on his policy and decision making, but in the area you are speaking of, I would probably have to disagree along with my cohorts.

Are you going to answer my question of whether you want Obama to always read off of a prompter and be scripted or do you think he should sometimes speak from his own mind? Not that hilarious.

Personally, I could care less. He reads from a prompter when necessary and speaks freely when necessary. I don't see where you're pulling this 'he ALWAYS speaks from a prompter' thing at...

After the last eight years, you should be thankful to have a president that can complete a single sentence. (Prompter, or no prompter.)

I think what some see is the fact that he gets heaps of praise (from me as well) about being a great speaker, orator, etc. when giving speeches. The fact is, when he is giving speeches, he works from a teleprompter that goes with him wherever he goes it seems. So I think they question, how great a speaker, orator, he is WITHOUT the teleprompter. Would those speeches be as grand? Alot of people also say, that those speeches helped get him elected, because he actually had very little experience. Kind of like the teleprompter is Obama's batsuit, how much of a superhero is he without it?

I can see that, but at the same time, he had a big hand in the creation of those speeches. He spoke well in the debates, and does well in town halls too. Maybe some people should pay more attention?

Maybe so.....

Honestly, I think some of his decision making here in the first 50 days, shows his lack of experience far more to me, than some gaffes when not using a teleprompter....

You spent way too much time analyzing my physics joke...

My jokes are just too smart for you, Kel. :csad:

Yes they are, and after a day of sending people to prison for years.....*sighs*, I'm just not at my best. :csad::csad:

I guess not everyone saw the beauty in his truth?

I get jokes!
