Action-Adventure TENET

Action movies and adventure films.
Hearing comparison now after years of not watching TDKR, I don't think any version is better acting-wise (some stuff is better in one, some in the other). I just don't like how the final version is pushed forward so much. It's poorly integrated with the rest of the soundscape of the scene. Even a megaphone doesn't sound like that.

What happens in Tenet is worse than Prologue Bane.

I've never seen a big budget movie on this level with such a bad sound mix like this...I don't think in forever.

Think of how badly SOLO was shot and how it just looks ugly and murky. It's like that with Tenet, but the sound, and the sound mix is worse.

It wasn't that bad but yeah... it had some problems in the sound category.

It sounded pretty bad. My friend saw it again a few days later in Dolby Atmos. He said while it's a little clearer at times, the problems are still there.

Nolan probably think it makes the experience more immersive. For me it does the exact opposite.

I thought in terms of sound, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood had a very immersive sound mix and feeling.

IMHO if this film gets any sound related Oscar noms for anything other Best Score, then I know the Oscar committee is corrupt.

I legit thought there was an audio issue in my theatre. I’ve never seen a big budgeted film have such poor sound mixing in my life.

Nolan's films mostly have amazing sound mixing/soundtracks, just see Interstellar and TDK trilogy.

Yeah, Tenet's one is not perfect and kinda average tbh. The opening scene is a bit louder, so I will wait for the blue-ray lol.

I agree usually they do. But this feels like an Emperor has no clothes type of situation. I've seen most of his films in genuine IMAX. I've never had an experience quite like this. Dunkirk didn't sound this bad. Dark Knight, Dark Knight Rises. Something felt wrong here.

OR Nolan was doing this on purpose and didn't really care what others think.

^This.

I am really not joking. I was so angry and frustrated watching the film. You can't have such a dialogue heavy and exposition heavy film sound this bad. IMHO it's unforgivable.

C-Virus+bad audio+french sub if I go see it in theater that I will have to read because of bad audio = will see it at hone with English sub => my dilemma about seeing it in theater is resolved.
Thanks for the feedbacks guys.

Like I said, I sympathize for those it ruined the film for, but my experience honestly wasn't THAT bad personally. I could still hear most of the dialogue, and the inversion concept itself is inherently visual which helps anchor you in some of the big beats. I didn't find the story that impenetrable. Idk, even when it's arguably taken too far I still support Nolan approaching the sound mix as a creative tool and not just something that's meant to be a perfunctory dialogue delivery system. I've sound mixed short films before. Artistic intent vs. function is always a balancing act, especially when you're aiming for a sense of realism. I wish he would've pulled back a bit to avoid all this criticism he's getting in this instance, but it's kind of a "I don't agree with what you say but I'll defend your right to say it" thing for me.

Also, looks like the movie had a strong opening in Japan.

How far back do I need to go to find people discussing the film and not stuff surrounding the film (not being snarky genuinely curious)

And how do I put a question in spoiler brackets I have something I need to ask about this film.

Just write [ spoiler ] before the question and [/spoiler] after the question (minus the spaces I added here in the first spoiler to avoid this explanation becoming a spoiler :))

I quite enjoyed the soundtrack and how it was booming and bumping during most of the scenes, not such much during the dialog heavy parts but it's still another fine work from Ludwig.
