Action-Adventure Terminator: Dark Fate

I always liked the idea of a t-800 being sent back in time and is sent back too early... like I want to see a sky net perfection time travel - we, or at least I know nothing of how it managed that..
So imagine a movie where a t-800 is sent to the wrong century.. imagine hitler getting his hands on one, or the Roman Empire, Egyptians...

The terminator scans and realises he failed his mission, so tries to redeem it by finding the source of the blood line, i.e a Connor from a different era - he has no weapons or guns.. what does he do?

I also had this idea that there were other resistance teams, not just John Connor... and that John Connor was on a list of many warriors they wanted to terminate.. you can have a movie where it's in the 80's and another mother/father to a John Connor type was hunted. After all, that was probably the initial 'terminator' strategy and first wave of t-800's sent out.

Thats a really neat idea, but the problem would remain, just with a different setting.
A terminator back in time to hunt someone.
Its why dark fate doesnt really work, because its the same as always just with a different terminator and target.

Maybe a drastic change of setting would help, maybe have him hunt a group of 5-6 people...but the basic idea would still stay the same...and i dont know if that is good.

Terminator needs a change of style to be able to continue.
Terminator 3 already was very thin on the basic plot on this.

The ending was the best part. Everything else was more or less a rehash of T2.

Yeah, i mean T3 has some nice ideas but again...the basic plot can only work so many times before getting stale.

I liked Bale’s casting and he was a passable older Furlong. I just wish he had more attitude. Such a bland performance. They needed to bring more of that rock & roll edge to him.

Norman Reedus perfectly embodies that imo.

Bale had the talent but yeah, he was very bland.
Didnt help that he was more of a supporting character.

Oh Reedus as John Connor is a cool idea, i could get behind that
What is Furlong even up to these days? does he still have drug problems and all?
Is he even a good adult actor? I could see him with a beard and all playing a good enough adult John connor if his acting is there.

I know many of the actors have said they dont want to do another terminator movie, but i would love to see a huge universe mixing Terminator movie with all the actors from across all 6 movies.
That would be sweet, but highly unlikely.
Imagine seeing Rober Patrick back as a T-1000...would be super awesome.

Come to think of it Jason Clarke did make a good John Connor. He was sunnier as someone else described but also had a bit of arrogance and cockyness to him as someone who already knew he was destined to win.

Then they had to go through with that stupid twist of making him the bad guy.

I still maintain the first hour of Genysis was great, the 2nd hour just ruined it.

Exactly this

No because Jai Courtney may be the worst actor in the entire franchise. And he was actually a highlight in Suicide Squad.

But he was so miscast as Kyle Reese, missing the character entirely, and the chemistry with Sarah Connor was so non-existent that right off the bat the film is off to a terrible start since the crux of the film is their relationship, which we’ve seen already done perfect with the first film.

Thing is, with Terminator there are so many ideas, options to follow....

I like the idea of a quiet town, somewhere in Scandinavia amongst the snow and mountains - it's 1984 and a terminator appears - trouble is, the protector got their earlier and they were ready, waiting for him...a whole town, isolated from the world, waiting fort his urban legend to show up... this man fell from the sky, to warn them of another, a fake, an antichrist.. they hide the town of weapons, anything that could be used to harm, so the t-800 scans and walks about town, and can't find who he is sent to destroy, has no weapons, it's almost a ghost town... people are alerted that he is here.... and then, they attack him, old school style. Civillians against the machine.

Another idea is lets move forward in time, a generation after John Connor - what's happening there.

A page late and I don't want another Terminator movie, but that Norman Reedus choice for John Connor is great

Someone upset that I felt there could be room for a story set after John Connor... which is what Dark Fate was alluding to.
Ignore the troll.....feel free to speculate on whatever you want.

Dark Fate made me just not anymore Terminator. They've just been varying degrees of bad post T2, and I just have no interest in seeing more garbage. Terminator and T2 are a satisfying story. It ends there for me.

I'm surprised this thread is going strong again and people wanting more films since the franchise seems dead for the near future, which is for the best.

Unless some of you have been talking about the Terminator: Resistance game. I'm playing it right now(well paused for a drink)and it's actually pretty good.

This could have been a cool prequel war movie set in T1 or T2's future instead of any of the sequels post T2. This game is what Salvation should have been!

In the age of streaming. I definitely think a Terminator television series is the next direction to take the franchise in. I’m aware there was the Sarah Connor Chronicles, but let’s do a new show that focuses on new characters, and let’s get away from the classic Connor/Rheese line of characters.

Band of Brothers: Terminator or a show about Skynet scientists like perhaps the rise of Miles Dyson starting right after the events of T1

[narrows eyes...]

I don't necessarily disagree, as the setting and lore is ripe for some interesting sci-fi stories. But the fate dilemma is a key to the franchise to many, and you kind of lose a bit when you remove the Connors from that narrative.

I finally saw Dark Fate properly yesterday. I don't think I have hated many films in the manner I hate it. I am not too big on saying that because you didn't like something, it crapped on the series. But I have to say, Dark Fate went hard at just crapping on everything that made those first two Terminator films so special on top of being an awful film. The only thing I remotely enjoyed about it was Arnie at his house. That was cute and fun.

Someone needs to make a Terminator sequel movie or show, that does not mirror the second film. Because that is all they have made since Judgement Day came out, and that is the biggest issue imo. Even Rise of the Machines did it. Forget buddy Terminator. Make something new, something different. Stop making crappy remakes of Judgement Day. Sarah Connor Chronicles fared better then most, but still just took the premise from Judgement Day. Stop it, please.

I would argue that SCC added enough wrinkles to make it distinct from T2.

Salvation had the right idea, it was different than T3/Genysis or Dark Fate and it made sense to go the future war but the execution got messed up. Messy landing!

There's still so much potential in exploring that than just some crazy new twists like the other sequels.

The franchise shouldn't become too different and new though just for the sake of it. That's why the franchise needs to just end as it's too limiting
